New Player Tour - 12/11

With the recent influx of citizens to Neverwinter City, I knew I would have
little trouble gathering together a group to investigate rumors of a
mysterious ship at Port Llast pier. Even before the message went out, I had
eager adventurers willing to aid me in my quest. The announcement brought
hordes to my side. Although Rastain, Amajaral, Sir Oquint, and ECEFH were
called away before we could depart, I have no doubt they will make fine
citizens of our fair City.

Leaving our meeting place in the Wharehouses north of Neverwinter, I set out
with MStrick209, Ada Dare, LandsharkK and Fengli Kai toward Windycliffs and
Port Llast beyond. We discovered a secret door along the path and ducked
inside, hoping for sanctuary from the infestation of lizardmen and pyro
snakes. Here we added Rhunter450, Glmckinn and Lrd Rapnho to our party, but
Ada Dare and MStrick209 were taken out by the swords of the lizardmen, who
were now accompanied by harpies.

We forged onward despite our losses, fought our way through wolves, great
vilstraks, giant rats and boars who fight on after death, and arrived at the
Griffon Inn in Port Llast in one piece. After healing our wounds, we visited
the Harbormaster, and he told us of the Gallant Prince and warned us that
great danger must assuredly lurk beneath its decks. I felt we could face the
evil - look at all we had been through already!

However, it was not to be.

We explored the ghost ship, battled clerics, carrion crawlers, and scores of
undead. The brave LandsharkK was taken down by a phase spider, and we were
down to five. Lrd Rapnho was called away by an unseen foe, and our number
had shrunk to four. We ventured to the lower decks, and there we met our
match - medusae! Fengli Kai was first to fall to their gaze, followed by
Glmckinn. Rhunter450 was the last standing, but he too succumbed to the
wretched beasts.

LandsharkK, RHunter450 and I headed back to Neverwinter after they trained at
the Port Llast training hall. Although we hadn't discovered the secret of
the Gallant Prince, we had fought hard and would live to try again! ;D

Thank you all for veturing with me - good travels!

The Tavern was a busy place this week, according to NWTs Mystri and Spryte.
What could have been disaster was averted by the helpful patrons of the
Tavern, as many supplied wood for the fire to replace the shipment lost to
maurading orcs in Nightsedge. DreadWolfe was the winner of 2 pearls for his
donation.

NWT Mystri added another concoction to her repertoire and sought a name for
it...many sampled the brew, but Strick719 came up with the name for it : "The
Lady's Eyes". His imagination and post won him 3 Pearls.

Friday finished out the week with MECH night, attended by the
Mechanicals...also on Friday night the impending Nuptials of Ilysianna and
Centruo were celebrated at a Bachelor/Bachlorette party. A fine time was had
by all who crowded into the Tavern to congratulate the soon to be joined duo.

It promises to be another busy week in the Sisters' Tavern. They've finally
finished the kitchen renovations, and invite their patrons to test it out.
Spryte looked a little nervous, but all are encouraged to come and cook their
favorite recipie, then post about it in the Tavern Folder.

Wednesday will feature a darts competition, with highest scorer (determined
by Mystri's roll) winning the prize.

The week will be finished by Elf Night in the Tavern....all Elven folk are
invited to the Tavern for song and frivolity, with GOH access going to the
best Elven RP.

The Sisters' Tavern is open in the Great Hall MWF from 11pm - 1 am EST.

The Night Before Christmas - NW Style!
(submitted by: Tyndarra)

'Twas the night before Christmas,
And all thru COR House
Not a member was stirring,
Not even dear Mouse!
The stockings were hung in the Guild Hall with care
In the hopes that St. LightsEdge (?) soon would be there.
The COR folks were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of drac fights danced in their heads.
Even Barney-Lich in his pj's, an ABK in his grasp,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap!
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter!
Away to the window I flew like a flash...
Tore open the shutters, and stopped with a gasp!
The moon shining bright on the Gardens below
Gave a luster of Mid-day - trust me, I know!
When what to my wondering elvish eyes should appear
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer!
With a little old driver so lively and quick
I thought it was Zapthief - but no, 'twas St. Nick!
Faster than Haste Spells the courses they came
As he whistled, and shouted and called each by name:
"On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer, and Vixen,
On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner, and Blitzen!
To the top of the roof of the great COR Guild Hall!
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"
And then in a twinkling I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I ran down the stairs, trying to make not a sound
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound!
He was dressed all in red - a right jolly old elf(?)
"He looks more like a Dwarf" I thought to myself.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work
Filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
Muttering the words to a Levitate spell,
He rose up the chimney with a triumphant yell.
Then I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight:

"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL...
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!"

The Farce
(submitted by: Stalker352)

The old man walked the streets of Kilron, he was short stocky, and had
about a weeks stubble, his clothes travel worn and dusty, his eyes a dull
grey. As he passed a women carrying a basket, he told her "Beware Doom is
coming".

She laughed and continued on her way. To each person he passed he said
the same thing. Finally he reached the middle of the town, where a juggler,
and a bard entertained the crowd. "Beware Doom is coming, unless you get rid
of that evil bard!" The old man shouted.

"Go away old fool!" One of the youths in the crowd yelled back. Within
moments two guards run over and grabbed the old man.

"Get off you fools. I am warning you Doom will come, that bard is evil!
He will be the downfall of this puny town. Put me down. I have done nothing!"

"Don't struggle old man. We're going for a nice walk", one of the guards
said soothingly.

"Yea, strait to the nuthouse!" the other guard said laughing, as they
dragged the man to the jail.

                          1 Month Later

The bard Jankar S'arat played his pipes for the large crowed in town
square, the notes like silvery beauty. He was singing a sad sailers dirge,
that made even the toughest mans eyes water. As he was doing so his partner
the juggler, slipped through the crowed stealing gold from unsuspecting
townsfolk. All of a sudden, a shadow passed over the whole crowd. All looked
up and gasped as one, as a large red dragon makes a sweep over the village.
On the second sweep, a man jumped off the dragons back, while still in
mid-air he throws a axe towards the juggler who flies five feet back the axe
buried in his chest. "Go from here!" The bard yelled, holding forth a crystal
that gave off a faint blue glow. "Ill kill her! Don't come any further"
Jankar said while franticaly moving backwards. The man who had jumped pulled
a large bastard sword from a sheath on his back. The handle was gold, with
many exquisite gems acenting the crosspiece. The blade was silver, but gave
off a luminus blue glow. The sword was so large even this six foot-five
finely muscled barbarian had to use two hands to hold it.

"I am Doom!" The barbarian yelled "You will all pay for harboring this
trecherous villian!" Doom yelled pointing at Jankar. "After I deal with him,
of course!"

"Leave Jankar alone! He has graced our village with many a good song.
What has he done to you! He is incapable of harming a fly." A bold man in the
crowd said, his voice carrying over the silence at the end of Dooms speech.

"This Jankar as you call him stole my wife, and put her in that
crystal." The barabrian growled "and I do not have to answer to any of you
feeble people." With those words Doom charged Jankar, who sent a small bolt
of lightning towards Doom, who cleaved the bolt with his sword. Next he
cleaved the bards head.

Doom garbbed the crystall, and put it in his pouch. He then pulled out a
crystal that made a peicing sound, which was answered by a screach from the
dragon, who sent stream after stream of fire towards the village. All the
while Doom hacked up the villagers with his sword. From the jail house a
voice yelled "I warned you! Doom will destroy you!" the old man cackled. The
Coming of Turmoyle
(submitted by: Turmoyle)

The combination of mist and smoke formed eddies around the warrior's ears as
he started his way toward his gasping prey. The power of his last fireball
blast had removed the left arm of his victim and it was left on battlefield,
twitching as if trying to form a fist. With rythmic steps the evil cleric,
Turmoyle, made his way to finish the job he'd started only moments before.

Turmoyle's hand reached to a sheath tucked into his leather boots and well
hidden by the hem of his cloak. With power- the kind granted only from a
pact with Mamoulian- he drew a magical blade and whispered into the dying
body's ear, "Only I grant permission for passage. I alone control the ebb
and flow of events that mold all lives contained in this land, Neverwinter.
Lives and deaths are mine to play or fold in this high stakes game. You just
happened to get a loser hand." The edge of the knife found a soft spot just
above the Adam's Apple and separated the chin from the neck with a single,
quick stroke. Blood poured onto the field and covered the underbrush like
ants swarming on a dropped piece of mutton.

Turmoyle knelt, dipped the tip of the dagger into the sanguine fluid and
brought it to his mouth. As he tasted, his eyes closed and his head tilted
skyward in some form of macabre prayer. He shouts, "I will not be disrupted
at the attempts of mortals or beasts to stop my course- the elimination of
all that is virtuous and worthy. I serve only one master, ME! Cross me and
you will die a horrific death."

He rose, cleaned the blade with two swipes on his thigh, and began his trek
into the heart of Neverwinter. People looking toward the battlefield from
inside the gates of the keep didn't notice Turmoyle as he made his way
amongst them, but they commented to each other that the sun seemed to dim
just a little. And many complained about a strange tingling sensation on the
soft spot under their chin.Heaven's Light
(submitted by: ABK Autumn)

I stand alone atop this wall,
Chin held high, yet no pride at all,
You see, there's something lacking inside me.
Cold from Neverwinter's air,
My head bowed in pretentious prayer,
My aching heart is yearning to be free.

Oh Gods, don't let me be alone tonight,
Please grace me with your Heaven's light.

So many times out there,
I've watched a happy pair,
Of lovers walking in the night.
They had a kind of glow around them,
I knew it must be Heaven's light.

I know I'll never know,
That warm and loving glow,
Though I might wish with all my heart.
Will no one claim me as his own?
This pain may tear my soul apart.

The brush of a lip,
The touch of a hand,
By Sune, please help me understand.
I'm all alone,
No love to own,
An empty heart in this wild land.

All I have is blood upon my blade,
It seems only enemies I have made,
Can no man pierce beneath my steel facade?
Beneath lies a love so pure,
Sweet and lovely and demure,
That no one's found it is so very odd.

Must I forever cherish only this:
The fleeting shadow of true love's kiss...?

Get Thee Behind Me

}} Now he travels that dark road, whence, they say, no one returns{{

The Dragon of Gagon picked at his eye teeth using the spine of a recently
skinned psuedo evil ittie that was foolish enough to stop at that unfortunate
spot to bang his head repeatedly against a tree in an attempt to remove his
feebleness.

This creature once thought to be extinct now stood as if guarding some
non-existant plane. Dense thickets surrounded the Dragon as though it were a
cove. Beyond the creature lay blackness. A gapping hole of nothingness, the
vortex of humanity.

Returning to these Realms just the fore night after to many years absent, I
sensed a presence the had been a void whilst on my journey that lead me
astray. A calling, if you will. A voice in the awareness of the nothingness,
calling to me like a harlot with promises of pleasure as she whips you into a
frenzy before she steals you blind and slits your throat ripping out your
voice box as she humm's a tune in your own voice while you slip into death.

Like an aphrodisiac, all senses blinded, a force lead me on to the most
desolate locals of the Realms. A hand gentley tapped my shoulder from
behind. Without thought as my mind was wrapped in a cloak of decay, I
reached for the hand enveloping it in mine as bones crunched and blood oozed
out of my closing fist. As I left the cities limits I tossed the hand aside
absentmindedly as a priest sat against a wall, wailing in pain and clutching
a stump that once was a hand.

And onward I went, to the Dragon of Gagon and the vortex of screaming souls
that lay beyond.

^Spew^The Return
(submitted by: ZERACKUS)

The days pass without a trace.Time holds no meaning for the One.His
presence moves through the maze of swirling shapes, looking for the bit of
substance that will guide him back.He seeks revenge, for the powers stolen
from him.He seeks revenge, to utterly destroy those who banished him here.

The Three will come again, and the rule the lands with a cruel iron fist.

Kemla Ra and his band of men,the Company of the Closed Fist, found the
hidden door with much searching. It lead down into a dark, dank underground
passage. They went into the hole, not knowing what lay ahead.

It was many hours before a room was discovered. It was a young Knight of
the Flame, that found the sealed door. The War Priest Fendar and the wizard Red
Blade, struggled for many hours with spells and prayers to open the
chamber. It took nearly two days before the door slide open, revealing a dark
and musty room.It was about the size of the Red Dragon Inn's common room.It
was filled with dust and cobwebs, telling all that nothing has moved in here
for centuries.

They found, in the center of the room, and small altar. It was too dark to
make out the ancient runes that covered it,but there was no mistaking,it was
evil. They could feel un-holy power ebbing from it.It seemed to grow stronger
the closer they would get.

Each member of the party could hear the sweet voices in their head.It told
them of the power they would gain. The good they could and the love it had for
them. The temptation of the knights was too much.Tyr had no hold over them
when they entered the shine of Myrkul.

One by one they rose up and touched the altar, embracing the powers it
offered. One by one they were laid low, turned to piles of ash by the power of
the Dread Lord.

The last to touch the altar was a young knight, his given name lost now,but
know to all as "Hammer".He was the pride of the Flame, all ways shinning on
the battle field in Tyr's name. His seduction was the sweetest for the god of
the dead.

When Hammer touched the altar,he did not die,and he did not live.He was
vested with a portion of Myrkul's power. It surged through him, leaving his
body tattered, and broken. He lay in the chamber for many years before he
awoke.

"What has happened to me?I no long feel Tyr's presence, but I do feel the
power of another."

"Come to me child,I have great plans.Together we will right this world, and
many others.I offer you the chance to change things for the better." The
voice was sweet,and comforted him.

"Tyr has abandoned me,I need a power to guide my hand.If you are as just
as you say you are,I shall pladge my loyality to you."

    "The pledge has been taking......."

The pain shot through his body again, but this time,he did not pass out.He
stood tall,in fact,he seemed to be taller than before. He felt his body grow
into the form of a handsome man.The most fair of all the realms. He
watched, his muscles grew strong, his chest swelled, his legs rippled with
power........and grew feeble!

To his horror, his form now sagged, and was hunched over.He screamed in
terror as the flesh slowly melted away. His form was now ghastly to behold.

   He had been decieved.

"Your wishes are true,"the voice boomed. It was stronger than before.Gone
were the soft, sweet tones of the deciever. They were replaced by the cruel
tones of the master.

"Rise now,Son of Myrkul.I have much work for you.You must right the
"wrongs" of the world, and prepare it for my coming. The Forgotten Realms must
beome the new Land of the Dead. You shall rule them in my place."

"Who am I?Hammer is gone forever,I feel the power flowing though me.I like
it! I will now take from the realms, what I deserved all along. It will become
my play ground,in the name of my......father!"He paused, thought,"For I am
Zerackus, and all shall fear my name."

With the new found powers over death,he raised his fallen companions, and
commited them to the un-life.

Kemla Ra was reborn as a lich.Sysphonsoul was cast as a lich.
Drackiller, now the most powerful vampire.Ingenjegger, master of the shadows.

Their powers were greater than any undead created in the realms. There
names will inspire fear and terror upon all who doubt Myrkul.

They would now set about the task of preparing the realms for the coming of
Myrkul.

Son of MyrkulThe WARR
(submitted by: WARR SHIRM)

The fire comes down from the mountians of the death,
The enemy finds a gloomy figure, a hundred yards at best.
The opponent looks around for fear of his life,
And he preps with shaken spoken trifes.

He cries out for help within the battle,
but no one returns his whiny rattle.
Trembling with fear he sees the WARR,
And the WARR's coming at him like a wild boar.

But its too late for the enemy has fallen,
And still no one returns his scratchy call'n.
The WARR stands proud for his foe is dead,
Hysterical with laughter he cuts off his head.

He brings it back to the local pub,
Placing it on the table with a solemn shrug.
Everyone is waiting for the WARR to speak,
"Now you know what you will have to meet!"

The news has spread across the town,
Now all the newb's are homeward bound.
For fearing the wrath of all the WARRs,
Hundreds of men all lock their doors.

Now you know what lies in waiting,
nothing's ahead but your pitiful gating.
Just remember next time your out,
A WARR will be there, you make no doubt.

And you will be dead soon enough,
Your friends looking for me in disgust.
But it will do them no good for they shall perish,
Just like the rest along with all they cherish.
Battle, Betrayal and Disappearance

[The first part is POV of Storm's father, Star Seeke(r), the remaining parts
are Storm's POV -- News]

Part I: The Bloodline

Star Seeker walks into the New Outrider Hall. Seeing some of the High
Council, and a few officers, he asks for an audience.

"Good Sir Cat, I only would like to tell thee of my sons.", explains Star.

"Your sons?", inquires Cat,"You have more than 1?"

"Aye sir, I have 2 of them, DayStorm, and Star Phyre. Star Phyre, however,
has turned to darkness, and now calls himself War Phyre."

"Storm, we know, he is a trusted friend." replies Lord Cat.

Chaos interupts, "War we know also, he has plauged some of us before, but as
of late he seems to be an ally. He helps us train some of our new members,
and has offered his assistance in helping to retrieve two ladies who were
kidnaped."

"That is why I must speak to you of them, dont trust War, he is artful in
mileading others."

"Really? Why do you say this?", asks GNicht, as she placess her paperwork
onto Friar's desk.

"First, I must tell you of the early times, before we came to these lands"

With that, Star takes a seat, and begins his tale.....

I call Storm and War my sons, but in reality, they do not remember their real
parents well.

It was many seasons ago that I found them, two children, one a babe, left on
their own.

It was only my eighteenth year that I had taken the path of the Ranger.

I was traveling in the North Lands, far beyond the reaches of Luskan, when I
had come upon a town, well, what was left of a town anyway. There had been a
great battle, naught was left but a few huts. Fire had scorched the
buildings, arrows, spears and swords littered the ground.

Yes, a great battle had taken place, and nothing was left but its scars. Or
so I thought. As I turned to leave, a young lad, no older than his eighth
year, had a blade aimed at my belly. I didnt hear him approach, I couldnt
even hear him breathe. He was of a bloodline I could not determine. His
skills were not learned, but were a part of him. For his age, his eyes
showed many years of hunting, and of running from some evil.

I raised my hands in the air. He was only a child in his years, but in his
eyes, he was a warrior. I spoke, hoping he could understand what I said, he
made no reply. Then in the distance a baby began to cry.

The boy dropped the blade, and took off towards the crying. I followed as
best I could, hoping to find the lad's parrents. The boy was fast, and in
the waning hours his dark skin began to hide him. The only thing that helped
me keep track of him, was bright green streaks in his hair, brighter than the
grass, enchanted was the only thing I could think of to describe his moves.

Luckily the trip was not more than a few yards. But when we stopped, I
looked around, agahst at what I saw. We were in one of the only standing
huts, a small fire burned towards the center. Not to far away from that,
maybe a couple of feet, was some fresh grasses and leaves. On top of the
pile, was a baby, not even in its first year, crying from hunger. The only
thing the same about the two, was the green streaks of color in their hair.
The baby had skin so white, it looked as if he were upon death's bed. The
boy's skin, on the other hand, was almost as black as coal.

But what had caught my attention more was in the back of the hut. A pile,
almost as tall as a man, a pile of bones, most were of animals. But some, I
fear, were of travelers who thought they could defeat Star Phyre.

It was then that I had decided upon my future, I could not leave those poor
lads to fend for themselves any longer. My first task, was to help Star
Phyre to understand me, and to try and understand him.

Phyre was very smart, it was not long before he was able to tell me what he
wanted, or what he thought Storm needed.

I began to train him, as much as I could, in the ways of the Clerics. I had
found a manual for training, in the style of Sune, on my journeys. I tried
to show him the beuty of life, the tradgedy of death.

It was during one of these lessons that Phyre started to cry. When I asked
him what was the matter, he began to scream. It was a frightfull sound, full
of pain and hatred, birds in the trees began to fall, the ground began to
shake and smoke.

I finaly got Phyre to calm down, but it took a long time before he would
speak again. When he finally did, he told me what he could about what had
happened. The rest, I found in a diary belonging to Storm's mother.

It seems the town that used to be, was a thriving educational centre. Many
scholars from thru out the realms went there to instruct others. Phyres
parents were the most adept warriors around, they had come to Edlenok to
train any that were willing.

Storm's father was a very powerfull Wizard, he had come to the town to find a
student worthy enough to learn all he could teach. He found his student, a
young lady from the same village that Phyre's parents had come from. She was
an outcast, her skin was blindingly white, as was her hair but for the
slightest tinge of green. Soon after he began instructing her, they had
fallen in love. The were wed and she bore Storm on their aniversary.

Soon after Storm's birth, the town was beset by a horde of Orcs. While most
of the townfolk cowered in fear, Phyre's parents jumped into the battle.
Storm's parents began casting spells of destruction upon the merauders.
Between the four of them the Orcs fell in a matter of minutes. Hundreds of
bodies lay crumpled around the town. Yet not one of the townsfolk was even
scratched.

After the bodies had been cleared, and the minor damage had been repaired,
talk began of electing a new mayor. The words flew around, the old mayor was
old and ill, and both the Warriors and Mages had shown themselves capable of
leading in times of trouble. While Storm's father, Aolutha, did not feel
that he should be the leader of Edlenok he did not prevent others from
nominating him for mayor. Phyre's father, Herndon, however felt that he
should be the mayor, because, in his opinion, the town needed somone to set
up defences in case of renewed attacks.

Unfortunately, the townsfolk were evenly spit in their decision, and many
times it led to violence. In order to avoid trouble, Aolutha annouced that
he did not want the job of mayor. That, however, made things even worse.
Aolutha's followers accused Herndon of threatening Storm's family.

After days of increasing anamosity between the sides, the final act of
violence broke out. Two supporters of Aolutha accidentaly bumped into a
supporter of Herndon.

"How dare you attack me you whelps, prepare to DIE!!!"

Those were the last words that could clarely be heard in Edlenok. The battle
that ensued took all but two lives.

Storm's and Phyre's parents stood side by side to try and halt the battle,
but it was to no end. As the four tried to heal those that were left from
the riot, four poisoned darts flew from the darkness and hit their targets
with uncompared accuracy. The thrower was not seen except for a small boy of
seven seasons. Hidden in the shadows, Phyre saw his father's most trusted
ally slay any of the townfolk still breathing, then he watched as he took
Aolutha's amulet and Herndon's Sword. It was then that Phyre learned what a
powerfull weapon that deception could be.

After Phyre told me what he had seen, I began to pack what belongings of the
boy's I could find. That town was no longer a place I wanted to stay.

We began our journeys headed south. I carried Storm in my pack most of the
time. Phyre refused to be carried, saying that he would not depend upon
another again. I puzzled at this for a time, but had forgotten about it
untill now.

We traveled during the days, thru most of the seasons. Phyre would hunt
while I would find other sorces of food suitable to eat. I was also kept
busy training Phyre and later, Storm.

When the fall turned its cold winds to winter, we would find shelter at local
farms or in caves. Inns would run me away, sayin I had conspired with
deamons, and pointing out the strangeness of Star's and Storm's skin and
hair. This only mildy disturbed me, but what I didnt know, it started Phyre's
contempt to burn.

We would try to sell our skills for food and housing, but in many towns to
the north, mistrust was rampant.

Finaly, upon Storm's ninth year, we came upon Luskan. Although their
mistrust of outsiders was as bad as most northern towns, we found a place to
shelter for one more winter. Phyre, I guess, had thought we were finished
with our travels. For the first time since I had found him, he made a
friend, and a little later he found a young lass who didn't toss him on his
ear.

Summer came. When I had informed Phyre of my decision to go on south, he
became very angry. He accused me of trying to control his life, to make him
leave his friends. It was at that time, that we parted company.

I wish I had known about the friends he chose.

Pardon me?
Oh, her name?
Lemme see, it was so long ago.
It was DL somthing or another.
Sorry I cant give you more.

Storm and I headed South, on to NeverWinter. I continued to train him in the
ways of the ranger, but in his own manner, he found his path. He took up a
friendship with a group of Paladins upon his 16th year.

I saw Storm grow into a man of great kindness and heart. His training thru
the Paladins, and later the Mages of the woods, continued untill he could
find no more to learn.

As for Phyre, untill recently, all I had heard of him, was that he had
changed his name to War Phyre. Then I started to hear wispers from thruout
the realms of his black heart. It saddens me and I wish I could have done
more for him.

He has turned upon his companions in battle for the mere promise of Platinum.
And that is why I tell you not to trust him, he is treachorous.

Part II: the return

A flash of lightning appears outside the NOR Castle, the explosion of thunder
followed immediately after. An old friend reapears in the doorway,
dismissing the the Squire who runs out to help him.

Storm staggers to the nearest carpet, and collaps into long dreamless sleep.

When he awakens, he finds himself in a bed, His bed, the one he hasnt known
in what seems like ages.

Looking around, he finds the faces of a friend he thought he'd never see
again.

"GNicht, how long have I been here? Where is my case?," he questions as he
begins to get up.

"Get your butt back in that bed!", snaps GNicht,"The Preists will let you
know when you can get out. And as for your other questions, you've been out
for about 4 days, and youre case is right over there." She points to a long
dark case, made of a wood unknown to NeverWinter, resting upon a chair.

GNicht pours a cup of tea,"Here, drink this. You need some liquids, we havnt
been able to give you any since you got here.", she hands the tea to
Storm,"are you hungry? Your up just in time for lunch, let me get you
somthing"

She gets up, and heads off towards the kitchen without even waiting for an
answer.

Making shure GNicht wouldnt catch him, Storm sneaks out of bed and gets his
case. Carfully he places it upon the bed. After checking for any marks of
force, he chants the only words that would open the magic seal.

The case slowly opens, green and yellow light pour out of the opening to fill
the room. Removing the contents, Storm examines them to make shure they
traveled well, then returns them to the case and reseals it with another
chant.

"THWAP"
"OWCH!!!!!"

"What did I tell you about getting out of that bed! Now get back in there
before I get mad!"

"And give me this," she grabs the case,"I'll put it away untill your well
enough to cary it around!"

Placing the case on the floor beside her, she hands him a leg of Boar,"Now,
eat this, if your still hungry, we have some Drac tooth stew."

Storm swallows down the boars leg, then the stew. Seeing how fast he was
eating, GNicht calls a Squire to bring even more food.

Storm finished off most of a boar, assorted vegetables and fruits, and a
plate of cookies for desert. Afterwards, he fell into another dreamless
sleep, tho this one only lasting a few hours instead of days.

Waking up again, he finds even more faces he had missed. Cat, Kyrin, Cnedra,
ValHeru, and Raider were off to a corner along with GNicht, talking quietly
trying not to disturb his rest.

"He's awake", says Kyrin, shruging his head towards Storm.

"Water, please.", croaked Storm.

"Thank you", he says as he takes the pitcher from the Squire who brings it to
him.

"You ok bud?"
"What happened?"
"We missed you so, why didnt you tell us where you went?"

Just some of the questions tossed at Storm as he drank down the pitcher of
water.

"First, Ive been here 4 days, I need to step outside for a bit, If thats Ok
with you M'Lady GNicht," he says with a sly smile.

Part III: Battle and Betrayal

Upon returning, Storm sat on the bed and begins to recount what happened.

"Here's what happened, as far as I can remember it."

I had taken some time from my daily duties to go visit my father, Star
Seeker. We were walking thru the woods, just east of Nights Edge, talking
about what was goin on in the world, enjoying the Summer sun as it filtered
thru the trees.

I guess I had grown too relaxed, Standing before us was my brother War Phyre,
along with his newest cronie, Deth Phyre. I didnt even hear the leaves
rustle at their approach, I was stunned for a short minute.

"Phyre, long time no see brother, how have you been?", I asked, not noticing
the look in his eyes untill after my question was finished.

"Well dear brother, my day just got much better, I dont have to hunt you down
to kill you. Deth, you take care of the old man, Storm is mine!"

The battle began, War and I casting our Globes immediately. Deth pulled out
a set of darts, the tips dark an unknown substance, and began to throw them
at Star.

Star dogged the first barage, and cast Protection from Normal Missles to
divert any further barages. That was the last I was able to see of their
battle.

War and I cast holds upon each other to no avail, each of us making our
saves.

The battle raged on for what seemed like days, each of us making our saves
against the other. Finaly, War cast fumble upon me, and it stuck.

"Death!, have you finished off the old man yet?", he barked out as he pulled
his dagger from its sheath.

Turning my head, as much as I was able to, I saw my father, frozen in place,
and Deth aproaching him with a dagger's dark blade poised to strike.

"No you fool, don't kill him, I want him to see his Son die at the hands of
the one he abandoned!"

Seeing that Deth had stopped his approach, War walked to me, "Long have I
waited for this day, to catch you two alone. My gullet has burned to kill
you for so long, I almost feel let down at the ease in which I cau...."

His words were stopped mid-sentance by a scream, primal and deadly, issuing
from the mouth of Deth.

"Yes Phyre, I stopped you," Deth began walking towards Phyre,"Oh, I bet your
wondering how I knew that scream arnt you? All in good time welp, all in good
time"

Deth began taking on a taller stature, his face changed its shape. His body
went from obese to muscular and defined.

"You recognize me now dont you Phyre? Yes it is I, the one who destroyed
your piddling little town. Im the one who slew your parents. The one who
taught you the Scream. But did you know, I have a little secret. Would you
like to hear it? Of coarse you do." he grined, " Here let me tell it to you
before you die."

Deth pulled out his black blade, and scratched Phyre's arm with it."It is
only a small cut, but the poison in it can kill a dragon in an hour, you will
be dead in but a few short minutes, then I will work on your brother. Now,
where was I, oh yea, my little secret before you die. You and your brother
there are the last of your bloodline, as many would tell, a bloodline full of
honor and bravery. Would you like to know how you became the last? Just
like I destroyed that tiny little town your parents and I fled to, I
destroyed your Tribe. I spread rumors around about the leaders, then sat
back as passion took over. It was an easy task, for all your honor, your
Tribe was filled with fools. Tho I didnt let your parents see me kill the
Cheif, otherwise your father and Storm's mother would have excacted revenge
for killing thier father."

"Storm's father was a bonus, a bounty was upon his head because he refused to
aide a king in his attacks on a small tribe of Halflings."

"Ah, I see the poison is quickening, so I'l tell you why I destroyed your
kind."

Deth began to change shape again, this time taking on the form of a woman.
Long silky Blonde hair, a stunning black dress with a plunging neckline, it
was DLFusion, the lady that had turned Star Phyre to War Phyre.

"Hehe, I love doing that, gives me a tingle every time."

"Now, to finish up before your finished. Your tribe was the only one that
could sense my full power. But not as individuals, only as a group did you
have a chance of detecting my true form. You see, besides your skills as
warriors and hunters, your tribe was also able to accomplish remarkable magic
once all in the tribe had concentrated upon the same desire, they called it
Single-Mind."

"Famine, plague, destruction never could reach them. Before any of my
master's minions could obtain a foothold, their Single-Mind would disband
them. So my master sent me with one instruction, 'Destroy them all', and
that will be accomplished today."

As Deth gloated over my brother, Star Seeker bagan to regain his movement.
Quietly, he snuck up beside me and cast Haste, thus freeing me from the
Fumble which would not allow me to move.

"First you will die, then I will kill your cousin. I will also eliminate
that fumbling old fool that rescued you from my grasp."

Seeing my brother's breath slow, my mind became filled with rage. I drew my
sword and attacked.

"AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGG!!!!! Die!!!!!", I screamed.

Deth grasped somthing around his neck and began to cast another spell.

My sword fell upon his neck, but not cutting it, instead it broke a heavy
chain that had found its way in front of my blade.

A bright light emmited from Deth's hands, then all I found was......

Part IV: A New World

Darkness, forever in the darkness.

Sounds echoing, sounds of battle, of unknown beasts battling unknown men.

"Quick get him inside before the guard sees him!", an order barked from a
familiar voice.

"Triel, go to Shadow Square and get some die for his hair, if anyone sees him
like this, the guard would execute him"

"Already on it M'Love!", replied a soft voice.

Light began to break the intermable darkness, glaring and red its harshness
only partialy shaded by the walls of the building.

"He's coming to. Ash, can you hear me? Ash, its me AyeOne.", the voice
inquired as hands smacked my cheeks. "Get some water.... I don't care how
much it costs get some!"

I opened my eyes slowly, the glare still being unkind to my head.

"Who? What?!?"

"Quiet lad, dont let the guard hear ya."

"How did you get here Ash? Only few portal exist and those that have them
are not very eager to share them."

"Who are you? Where am I?", was all I could ask.

Quietly, a door opened, spewing in the harshest light I have ever beheld.
The heat of the light was almost unbearable. The door closed almost
immediatly.

"Here, all they had was this red dye and some bleaching," Triel said as she
handed the items to AyeOne.

"Its better than nothing, If the guard sees his green streaks, he's as good
as dead."

"Ash, here drink some water. I havnt much time to explain things, but we
must change your hair color otherwise you will be killed, do you understand?
Your skin is another matter, we'll have to say your an albino and hope they
believe us."

"Who are they? And who are you?" I began to demand.

"Quiet man, Il explain as we dye your hair. But first, do you know who you
are?"

That question struck me hard, in all of the confusion, I didnt even think
about who I was. And you know what? I didnt know the answer to the
question.

With the realisation that I couldnt remember anything, I passed once again
into darkness.

I awoke again a few moments later as cold water was poured into my hair.

Panic choked in my throat as I tried to remeber who I was, and how I had come
to such a horrid place. "Please, I am scared, I cant remeber anything, Help
me, help me!"

A fist to the side of my jaw, and words following me into the darkness "I had
to do it, he would have had the guards........"

Later, I couldnt tell how much later, I awoke again, this time my hair was
dry and I had a cool, wet cloth placed against my aching jaw. This time
there was only the light of candles and tourches surounding me, the harsh
light was gone. The room was much cooler, almost comfortable.

"Ash, Im sorry about your jaw, MazeGaze acted in the quickest way he knew.
If the guard had found us...", appologized Triel, "Here we are safe. I can
answer your questions if I can, but as to who you are, youll have to wait for
AyeOne to get back."

With that, Triel told me of the world I was in. Athas was its name, harsh
and cruel. Death was common, even expected. The ruling class was heartless,
the hired thugs, the Tyrian Guard, was even worse. I began to understand,
and forgive MazeGaze for his actions.

As Triel finished telling me of Athas, the one who called himself AyeOne
entered the room.

"I see your up again Ash, and you look a little less tense. You still dont
remeber anything? Hmm, well, Your name Is Night Ash, the last time I saw
you, you were a Knight in the Guilde of the New Outriders. Any of this ring
a bell? No, well, maybe this amulet we found next to you might stir some
memories."

He handed me an amulet, its chain was thick and cleanly broken midway thru.
The amulet itself was very ornate, characters were carved about its edge, 4
jewels were placed at odd spacing in the centre. But nothing came to my
mind.

I shook my head, tears starting to come to my cheeks.

"Don't worry my friend, when it is time, you will remember." assured AyeOne
"But for now, your training for survival in Athas is most important."

Over the months I learned how to survive, the most important fact was that I
had to remain anonymous, never drawing attention to myself. Attention has
proven to be the end of many in the world of the Blood Red Sun. And to
myself it was even worse, my hair grew rapidly, requiring me to continualy
die it, my skin never darkening from the sun.

Then one day, I saw him, whispering words into one of the Templar's ears.
The memories flashed back, all of them. I struggled to get myself out of
open, my head full of pain and dizzy with the recall.

A soft hand grabbed my arm, "Quickly Storm, in here"

I stumbled inside the small house, falling to the floor once inside.

"Tempest, come here, Storm is in trouble, help me get him in the bed."

I fell off into oblivion, the scenes of my life playing before my eyes. Only
one scene continued to force its way forward. The last thing I saw upon the
lands of NeverWinter.

"He is a Deamon!!!!" I cried out, awakening myself, and causing Tempest and
Llira to jump up.

Tempest ran to the door, checking for anyone that might have heard.

Llira ran to the side of the bed, "Shhhh, quiet, you'll have the guards upon
us for shure!"

After several minutes, the apparition faded from my eyes. "Llira, Tempest, you
knew who I was, why didnt you say anyting?"

"It wouldnt have mattered my friend, untill your mind was ready, you would
not have understood." explained Tempest.

"I understand. Ya got anything for this headache? The last time my head hurt
this much was the morning after Dravn and I tried to empty an everful"

Part V: The Return

For several days I tried to track down the deamon. A task that seemed easy,
where ever he went friends were battling each other over minor problems. He
was elusive, however, everytime I came near, I found the Guard waiting for
me.

It seems he was up to his old tricks, and he was also afraid of what would
happen should I find him.

I stopped chasing him after a while. I began to take an interest in the
amulet, for some reason I began to believe he didnt outright have somone kill
me because I had it.

I studied the runes around the edge, working out the words they stood for.
Finaly I found out what the amulet was for. It was his gate between worlds,
that was why he couldnt leave that world, I had his portal.

A plan emerged in my mind. Asking Tempest and Llira permision, I encircled
thier home with a mixture of containment, leaving only the doorway undone. I
handed Tempest the rest of the mixture and gave him his instructions, as soon
as the deamon entered he was to complete the circle from the outside leaving
me and the deamon alone inside.

Llira began to pass the word thru the streets, that I was alone in the house.

AyeOne, MazeGaze and Triel stood watch upon the house, making shure only the
deamon would approach, and it did not take long. His pride put him in the
house in a matter of hours.

He looked around before entering, making shure none had followed him. He
pulled his poisoned blade out and entered the doorway. Tempest jumped out of
the darkness where he had been hiding and quickly finished the circle.

As the last few grains completed the containment, the deamon turned to run,
eyes wide with fear, as he and I were sealed inside. He hit the field and
bounced back in such a display, I now laugh at it.

As he turned, my blade fell upon his hand, or rather his claw, dropping it
and the poisoned knife to the ground. Shock and horror filled his eyes,
surprised that a blade could scratch him, much less sever his claw.

"How could you, only a blade blessed by the Gods can do that, and there are
no Gods on Athas!" he growled as his figure began to twist, takin a form only
one mortal ever saw before.

"My master told me you must all die, and you are the last one!!!" he
screamed.

Almost as quick as light he lunged at me, his left claw holding a Sword I had
never before seen the likes of.

My hand lifted, before I realized it, and sliced away the deamons other claw.

The scream came next, the scream that had caught my brother off guard. But I
was ready for it, before Phyre had turned, he taught my father and I how to
save from it.

"You, your breed cannot survive!!! You will die before I return to the
fires!!!" his tail raised, poised like a scorpions stinger.

"Then tell me deamon, if I am to die, what is the name of the beast that
takes me to the grave? What is the name of the one that has slain my
family?"

"My name, is that all you want little welp? My name is...."

My blade fell center upon his head, not stoping untill it hit ground. An
explosion flung me to the wall, where I fell unconscious.

I came to, in what was left of Llira's and Tempest's home, my friends about
me busy repairing the damage that had been done. I got up, sore from the
immediate braking provided by the wall, and began to help the clean up.

In the debris, I found my father's amulet and my uncle's Sword. Both were
symbols of thier powers and honor.

The foul stench left over could not be gotten rid of, so once we were
finished removing the carcase, we boarded up the house and began to move
Llira and Tempest to Alturuk.

Llira pulled me to the side,"Why did you want his name? If you were to kill
him, his name wasnt important, was it?"

"His name wasnt needed to destroy his form no, but to prevent him from coming
back, I need to remove it from his portal", I explained as I chanted the
words to remove his name from the amulet.

After we finished the move, I searched for a piece of a Serpent Tree. I
found one of just the right size, and began to work on it. First I split it
in half. Then I began to carve the two cavities in it and the hinges and
latches on the outside. Once I had finished, I placed the Sword and the
Amulet inside. I then placed the locking spell upon it.

The case I made is a case of memories, to honor those that I have loved. The
Sword honors my brother, who fell because of words he listened to. The
Amulet honors all of my friends who have left my side for many reasons.

Finaly, I said my good byes to all my friends in Athas, promising to return
as often as possible.

I activated the portal, which put me in front of my home, In NOR Castle.
Skorp, The Autobiography, Part 6
Climb to the Top
(submitted by: ITB Skorp)

For many months, Faust and I ran ITB. Our Grandmaster was occupied in
affairs that did not include ITB, only his own selfish aspirations, and,
without a proper leader, despite the best efforts of Faust and myself as
AGM's, the guild began to falter. Enough was enough, and Faust and I together
decided that the time had come for Lich to step down. He fought us, delayed
us, but, eventually, he was left with no choice. Now both Faust and I would
have been good choices, but, I had spent much time developing my political
power, while Faust had spent the same time alientating...pretty much
everyone...at one point or another. Thus, my appointment into the position of
Grandmaster of Bondage was assured.

I was not a easy GM to please. Always, I pushed the ITB's to fight, and to
win. Always, I goaded others into fights against the mighty ITB War Machine.
More and more ITB champions flourished on all of the sporting ladders. More
and more Wars against other guilds were won. Spies and Traitors were dealt
with swiftly and harshly, more ITB's were stripped of their rank and banished
for all time from The Bond than ever before in history. My Boot was swift and
unyeilding. Those who did not agree with my actions, left as well, but, all
those who left of their own will, eventually came back, knowing deep in their
hearts that I had always done the right thing for the guild.

Many, many youngsters saw the success of ITB under my reign, and tried to
join. First Faust, then Smoke, and in the end Teddi, all made sure that only
the very worthy made it into The Bond. Xavier ran the hunts every week, and
the body counts that fell before The House were massive. Arcane led
outstanding PvP efforts by some of the best ever, Wrath, Myst, Dethan,Onyx
and others. Even some of the newer ITBs like Synah and Grynch gained
championship titles. Not only were the ITB's out in force during hunt nights,
but the Bond had once again grown as strong as ever, as strong as the days
that Cormyr and Silent led ITB, if not even stronger.

I however started to feel old.......The Pirates of Neverwinter
(submitted by: OrcBasher)

The bright orange rays of the early morning broke through the gloomy clouds.
The shift from night to day was complete. The silent crashing of waves
against the reef brought OrcBasher to a half-awakened state.. OrcBasher
loved the smell of the ocean and couldn't resist the sound of those waves
crashing, so he stayed half-awake for awhile. He awoke slowly at first, but
as the sun grew higher he knew what the day would bring.

OrcBasher (Orc) gathered his gear and mounted a sleek well muscled black
stallion. His horse he had named MidNight. Orc looked one last time at the
ocean, knowing full well that he wouldn't see it from dry land again. Today,
Orc set out to sea.

Orc rode through the streets of Neverwinter, not stopping to see the peasants
and other adventurers. Orc rode through WindyCliffs passing through the evil
place where the Dracoliches slept. He rode on for hours, till he came to
Port Llast. Port Llast had been unfortunate, as it still had large monsters
roaming freely. Orc knew full well that as long as he had his horse MidNight
no monster could catch them, let alone fight them. Orc stopped at the long
since aged Port and knew this was the favorite meeting spot of his guild PON
(Pirates Of Neverwinter). Soon after arriving at he local inn, he sent out
his thoughts in a sort of mental search. Orc liked to call it ESP. He soon
located Hamandand, who at the time was currently first mate. Hamandand was
his friend so there ESP contact went fairly quickly, both agreeing that they
would need Orc's skill as the day would pass. Orc sent a thought out to
Hamandand who responded by telling him to get to the Wicked Wench ASAP.

Orc knew that when his friend called it was important. So Orc gathered up
his incredibly strong magical powers and zooped out of existence for a
second, but when he came back, he was on the ships foredeck, face to face
with his friend.

"Quickly, all the other Officers are here." Hamandand told him briefly. "Ok
sir" Orc said descending the stairs to the main galley.

Orc strode in to the galley and was greeted by many of familiar faces.
Seated at the war table (Which was nothing more than a wooden table with maps
and charts on it) where many of his good friends. Browlu, looked tired but
aware of Orc, the two had gone on many adventures together. Sparxxxy,
Blackm00re, Aiki Kiai (with Hiko Kibou perched on her shoulder), Timir Del,
M0bi0us, Hamandand, Dirk Dirty, Loraque, Sir Donos, Twynkle, all where here
for one reason...war. The Wicked Wench was one of the most advanced ships in
all of NeverWinter. It was no ordinary ship, as it was powered not only by
sails and riggings, but by the same power that wizards casted spells. The
power source was known only as SpellJaming. It was faster and more efficient
then any other means of travel, but it did take its toll on the user.
SpellJamming drained the magical energy out of the user and left him empty
after a period of time.

As the council began, they still had not learned of there enemy. Hamandand
stood up from the table and drew all the eyes on himself as he did. "We have
gathered here today to through back an invasion fleet. The Wicked Wench
along with the Mystique Lynx (another of the SpellJamming) type, Aiki Kiai
nodded at the sound of her ship, will arrive at the outer edges of the
Neverwinter coast and will repel at all costs the invaders which seek to
destroy NeverWinter it self. Lord Nasher cannot and I repeat will not give
us any more ships, we already have enough with which to deal with the enemy.
I encourage and order you if I have to, to use the extent of your magical
powers to destroy the enemy."

"Sir" asked Browlu "Who is piloting the ships?"

"Yea..Whats there strengths...Whats there weaknesses" added Aiki Kiai.

The council murmured their agreement to the twos questions.

"Calm down..Calm down. I have given my word to the people of NeverWinter that
we will protect them. I cannot and will not let the enemy through. I can
however tell you this, Its all I know but if it comforts you so be it. The
enemy is controlled by a mage far more powerful then I. It will take us all
working together to bring the wizard down." With that the crowd adjourned
and the crew broke apart and spread out preparing for the upcoming battle.

Both ships set out the next morning. They dropped there sails and
mysteriously floated an inch off of the water. Then the SpellJaming part
proceeded to move the crafts through the air. The ship scathed through the
bright blue water, not actually hitting the waves but cutting them in half.
Both ships where beautiful in every way. The rigging stood like an imposing
tree, impossible to climb yet always tempting. Crew members scurried this way
and that, knowing full well what would happen to them if they didn't do what
they were told.

As both ships slowed then settled back into the water, a lookout on board the
Lynx suddenly screamed. "Ships, Ships, Lots of em' On the Horizon." Aiki Kiai
could not make out the ships from her viewpoint but knew full well that they
where there. Her lookout was well trained as out of nowhere 25 pitch black
transport ships broke into view. They slowed then turned.

The activity on the flagship tripled as the crew raised the sails and
prepared to attack. The lynx however had not done such a thing yet. Instead
all of the officers joined there captain on deck and gathered together. A
huge ball of incandescent light grew in a bubble shape, the ball grew higher
and higher till all ships involved were looking straight at it. Hamandand
thinking this was a diversion for him to attack ordered his ship full ahead
and attacked.

No sooner then the ball lifted from the air, but all those in the circle
lifted as well. They hovered a full two ships heights over the water. Then
slowly, the globe began to pulse out. Smaller circles hovered around the now
shrinking globe of light. The smaller globes now 25 in number where in a
small circle around what had been the remnants of a much larger ball of
magical power. Then out of nowhere they began to spin. Slow at first, then
picked up speed. Both ships stopped the attack again, as the wondrous sight
again became even more wondrous. The globes spinning almost of out control
now, separated then hurled themselves toward the "dead in the water ships".
The ships decks scrambled with crew men wondering if this was a good thing or
a bad thing...(hmm..wonder which...???....hehe..). As the globes grew
closer, the turned themselves into huge flaming comets. They sped faster and
faster and faster, gaining speed every second. Then there was silence. The
Lynx crew fell to the ground exhausted. Seconds later all 25 ships exploded
with a huge bang. It was that day, at that exact time, that in Red Larch
even in the Luskan Outpost, that a large bang was heard.

After the destruction of the 25 heavily bogged down ships with soldiers, the
remaining ships that had been out of sight turned tails and fled. It was
thought that that day over 25000 enemy troops had been killed. The
mysterious wizard who had been thought to control this army was not real (or
else he would of tried to save his army don't ya' think?). The crew of the
Lynx knew how much NeverWinter had meant to Hamandand, and would not of done
anything less if they had to do it again. Thus yet another force had been
thwarted and the forces of PON stood victorious.

OrcBasher was still amazed at the Lynx's display of pure magical fury. Yet he
knew that when those ships sunk, they must of brought down something of worth
with them. So OrcBasher after returning to port, casted "Water Breathing" and
set out to the site of their previous battle.

The EndA Need 2 Kill
(submitted by: UDL Charon)

The light from the candles inside the temple flickered, spraying waning
rays to and fro across the inside of the ceiling and walls. Shadows wandered
freely amongst the church, and the silence that hung over was almost
palpable. Need2Kill entered the chapel and took a seat near the back,
kneeling. He began his daily ritual, offering praise to the dread god,
Myrkul, as he did everyday. After a long hour of devotion, Need stood and
exited, leaving behind lesser clerics to their daily worship.

As Need moved down the hall to wards his quarters, Nelus, a new student
came up and paced him stride for stride.

"Lord Kill," Nelus greeted as he joined the master assassin.

"Welp." Need nodded in return, knowing this child would probably assail
him with ridiculous questions as he had everyday for the last week since his
arrival. The young student continued on, as if too stupid to recognize even
a blatant insult.

"I have a few questions I would lie to ask f you today."

"Always you surprise me Nelus." Need's pace quickened, somewhat hoping to
lose the child in his rush, although he knew that wouldn't happen.

"The tomes speak of a powerful spell of an incantation designed to help
turn away the powerful effects of ice based and snow dwelling creatures,
attempting to shield one from their attacks. Do you know of this spell?"

Need stopped in mid-stride. Turning to face the pupil, he raised an
eyebrow in disbelief.

"Yeah, I know of it. It's called Resist Cold."

"Yes! That's it! I was wondering...if this spell could be reversed...is it
possible to do the same to creatures of warmer climes and hotter
temperaments?"

Need was at a loss. For a person that spoke in such long drawn out
sentences, this guy was a total idiot.

"Yeah...we call it, quite coincidentally, Resist Fire."

"Amazing! Could you perhaps tell me more of these wondrous spells? I would
be forever..."

Need turned and the squire followed. The conversation that followed
perhaps may have been the most boring ever spoken.

                                                           ***

Need had worked with Nelus for weeks now, nearly six in total, and the
young one was progressing as fast as a clumsied snail. Need had decided
there was no hope for the fool, and would recommend he be either dismissed
from the Temple, or killed. Death seemed to good for him, however.

Need2Kill sat in his quarters, working upon the mixture he had began three
days ago. The alchemical spell was to be used in the torture of some clerics
of Cyric, the false one, in a few days. The potent liquid was an explosive
acid. A drop placed upon flesh would be absorbed, and then begin to
painfully break down the flesh, finally causing a microscopic explosion.
Most excruciating, and most effective, when the knock came.

  "Come."

Nelus stepped through the door, to be met by the hateful glare of Need.

"Lord Kill, you wished to see me?"

"Nelus, approach." Need placed one of the vials carefully down on the
worktable in the center of his room. Standing he turned from his work, and
away from the young fool.

"Nelus, you're time here is at an end. We have not seen even the slightest
amount of progress, and you do not show the heart to do the work that Myrkul
demands. I have discussed it with the Bishop, and you are to be summarily
dismissed. You have one day to pack up your things and be gone from our
sight."

"Is that so...Lord Kill?" The sound in Nelus' voice caused Need's eyebrow
to raise. The whine, ever present before, had been replaced by a killer's
edge. Need whiled in time to see the first flask strike his shoulder.

The horrid concoction coated his entire arm and body, soaked in, and worked
it's evil within seconds. The explosion of pain as Need's entire right side
of his torso, from breast to fingers wide and shoulder to waist, dissolved
within a symphony of miniature explosions was mind numbing. Another vial
flew, taking Need's left leg, leaving no bone, no flesh, no blood...nothing.

Laying in a broken heap on the floor, Nelus' words barely were able to
reach through the agony within Need's head.

"Lord Kill," Nelus said, now with a tone of disgust, "allow me to ease your
final moments. The Bishop made clear your death would significantly ease his
worried mind. You have grown much too powerful the past few years for his
comfort, and he no longer wishes to watch his back for your advancement.
With your death, he will take me on as apprentice, and no one will question
him again. Tell Myrkul I send my greetings."

The grin on Nelus' face was the second to the last thing Need saw with
living eyes. The next vial aimed for his head was the last.

***

Need didn't so much awake, as he wasn't truly asleep, but began to focus.
He began to comprehend his surroundings, and was unsure of himself. He
seemed incorporeal, an apparition of sort. He could see and feel himself,
however he was insubstantial and could see right through his body. Kill
looked around, trying to fathom where he was.

Black skies stretched in every direction, and only grey clouds broke that
monotony. No stars or moon of Toril, simply black and grey. The landscape
also was grey, as well as totally barren. The ground was hard, and nothing
would grow in such a place. Ahead of Need he heard a river, but a fog hung
over the land making it difficult to see. Need was drawn to the water
though, finally coming upon what seemed unreal. The water was as black as
ebony, and were it not for the unnatural glow it gave off from itself, Need
would have not seen any light on it. It reflected nothing, seeming to eat
any light or reflection that dared to touch it's surface.

A white horn stained with blood hung from a post a few feet away, and Need
again found himself compelled to action. Grasping the horn, he put it to his
lips and blew, and the deep sound it made echoed across the waters into the
thickness of the fog. Replacing the horn, Need knew all he could do now was
wait.

Within a minute however, he heard the sound of breaking water. A black
blur appeared within the fog, growing darker and more defined as it grew
closer. A skiff appeared, being guided by a cloaked figure, whose longpole
worked and guided the ferry with a graceful ease. The boat settled in
against the land in front of Kill, and he stepped into the barge, unsure of
where this journey would take him. The hooded figure raised his arm toward
Need, and a horrible hand opened in front of him. The skin, where there was
skin covering bone, was rotted and gangrenous in spots, and the fingers so
thin and boney that Need could not believe they could grasp a longpole,
though he had seen different.

"Your toll," the figure rasped. The glow of two red orbs were all the Kill
could see from within the blackness of the cloak's cowl.

  "I have nothing."

"Then you will pay with your service to me. I am UDL Charon, Ferryman of
Souls and Boatsman of Myrkul. You will act as my squire, in service to our
God. When Lord Myrkul signals you are ready, you will be released to serve
him in your own way."

Charon did not wait for a reply. His longpole found the shore, and the
skiff pushed off. Need sat quietly for a moment, before asking the question
burning in his mind.

"And what shall I do in your service? And how shall I serve? I am at a
loss at these events."

"You're body was stolen from you. You are no more than a spirit now.
Therefore Lord Myrkul has a gift for you." Charon turned his head towards
Need but continued to propel the skiff with his pole. "You will now take
that which was taken from you. That which was considered no longer yours,
you will now consider anyone else's forfeit. Lord Myrkul grants you the
power to possess whom you will, when you will. No longer are you Need2Kill,
powerful cleric. You are now Need2Kill, the Body Thief."

The deepness and rich tone of Need's laughter echoed out across the waters
as the skiff, it's boatsman and it's passenger disappeared into the fog.

***

Nelus was busy cleaning Need's old quarters, his new one. Most of the
former cleric's possessions had been removed already, and Nelus was near
ready to decorate for Myrkul Mass. The temple was to exchange gifts in
celebration of the event, and blood and entrails would adorn the halls. He
was so busy at work, he did not even notice the visitor he had.

"And so, Nelus, you attempt to steal more than just my body."

Nelus whirled, knowing the voice of the speaker. His eyes widened in
fright upon seeing Need2Kill standing before him, even in apparition form.

"Need! Who summoned you!? Back to the land of death with you!"

"I think not poor Nelus. You should be smart enough to know that those
that serve Myrkul well in life, will serve him for eternity in death. I at
least can forgive you your transgression, being so new to your studies. The
Bishop however, he believes falsely I see, otherwise he would know better."

"Forgive," Nelus stammered, "you mean you forgive me?"

"I said I *could* forgive you Nelus," Need stated, grinning wickedly, "I
didn't say I *would*!!"

With those words, Need's form met that of Nelus' body, and Kill pushed in,
taking possession and relegating Nelus to a dark recess of his own mind. The
only noticeable change was the fact that instead of two eyes within his
skull, there now were two pure black orbs peeking out from within Nelus. The
voice that echoed out was stranger than any ever heard, as if Nelus' and
Need's were both speaking, overlapping each other.

"Come Nelus, watch as I pay our Bishop a Myrkul Mass visit. I will then
decide whether to leave your consciousness trapped while I posses you, or
release your spirit wholly."

***

The clerics of the temple passed around their gifts, thanking each other
for the various instruments of pain, likeness of Myrkul, scriptings on
prophecy and the like. They were confused to find an extra present under the
tree at the conclusion, however, and were surprised it was addressed to them
all from the Bishop, who had been missing for a week now.

They all were slightly surprised to find the Bishop had generously decided
to give his severed head to them all that day, quite a generous gift. Happy
Myrkul Mass everyone. <weg>The Other Side of the Coin
(submitted by: Ilysianna)

"In the name of the Dreaming, it feels good to be free!"

Ilysianna walked through the halls of the Freehold, quietly jumping from
shadow to shadow. She possessed so much speed, that even if someone passed
within a couple of feet of her, they just turned their heads, catching a blur
out of the corner of their eye. she slipped behind statues, hid under
tapestries, pressed against the cold marble walls until finally she exited
the front gates and entered the Woods. No one had seen her.. her secret was
safe.

Her multi-colored eyes scanned the area around the Freehold. She
detected two figures speaking about one hundred yards away. Even from that
distance, she knew who one of them was... she could feel it. It was the
magical being she had created out of her fae magics... the being she made in
her own image. She chuckled to herself as she changed out of her summoning
robes and slipped into a pair of tight brown, leather breaches and a white
poets shirt, billowing sleeves and laced neckline. As she laced up her
boots, she looked up and saw the two figures hugging. She smiled as she
finished donning her cloths, so very relieved that she did not have to worry
about the wedding to Centruo, nor any of the court business. The other
Ilysianna would take care of that, while this one took care of herself.

As she made her way through the heavy vegetation of the Forest,
Ilysianna's fingers danced in her hair, creating a braid that finally fell
just below her knees. Her mind raced with ideas and solutions to her
problems. She had no idea what to do first... try and find Avarcye, or try
to return to her home land and finish up some business there. The only
problem with going to Arcadia was that many of the Kithain, once they
returned to the Fae Land, never returned. Arcadia was a realm of dreams...
where the Kithain prospered and creatures of banality never came to do them
harm. It was Utopia for her kind, and she did not know if she could fight
the urge to stay there once she felt the power of her homeland once again.

She raised her hand over her face, and by the time it had completed the
pass, she looked completely different. Instead of her dark raven hair, the
sun now reflected off the platnum blond locks that framed her face and hug
just below her shoulders. Her skin slowly turned different shades until she
found a rich bronze color that made her look as if she spent most of her life
in the sun. She changed every inch of her appearance, from the hilt of her
sword, to the length of her eyelashes. The only thing that she was unable to
alter were her swirling, colored eyes... the sign that she was being infused
by the Glamour of Arcadia. She stopped suddenly, just before entering the
gate that led to Nightsedge. She was forgetting something. She looked over
head and smiled as she saw a large bird circling overhead. It was Zhiannan,
her great white owl familiar. With a quick twitch of her nose, the bird
transformed into a beautiful hunting hawk.

Hours later, she finally made her way to Neverwinter City. She could
barely contain her excitement. The city was alive! Before, she has always
been so kind to those around her, for the Kithain Queen could not afford to
make enemies. However, she was a no body... no one knew her... no one cared
what she did. She walked by a market, grabbing an apple on her way by. She
ignored the accusations of being a theif from behind her, chuckling as she
turned the corner and headed into Daglow's Inn.

The Hawk landed on her shoulder as she pushed the door open. There were
dozens of people in the inn, even some Kithain were present. She
straightened her posture and headed to an empty table. Scanning the room,
she non-chalantly slipped a large money purse of the table and noted everyone
that showed any interest in the leather pouch. About six pairs of eyes were
fixxed on it: a female drow, three male warriors, two priests, and a man..
who from the looks of him, was probably a thief. She tapped her finger on
the table, her nail making a quiet tapping sound, then pointed towards the
thief. The gentleman nodded and a moment later sat down in the chair across
from her.

Ilysianna leaned in closely, staring into his eyes for a minute before
she finally spoke.

"I have a job for you... once which will pay extremely well if you
succeed.", she whispered.

     The thief only nodded.

"There is a gentleman I need to locate. I can tell you his name and
what he looks like, and nothing else. You will be working on a need to know
basis... and that is all you need at this time. I will give you one hundred
jewels if you bring him to me... alive. I will give you fifty jewels if you
tell me of his location. However, if you deprive me of the pleasure of
killing him myself, I will give you nothing save a dagger in your back... do
you understand?"

The thief nodded, his gaze unfaltering as she threatened him.

"Very well.. the man's name is Avaryce. Each day he is alive, he poses
a greater threat to me. Find him quickly."

She slid the pouch over to him.

"Inside, you will find ten jewels, to help you with your search. There
is also a pendant in there that will signal me whenever you need me. When
you find him, push the gem and I will be there within seconds."

"It will be done.", he finally spoke in raspy, gutteral voice. She
noticed a large scar going from the middle to his neck just below his
earlobe. She grinned slyly, knowing that she had found the right person to
complete the task.

She leaned back in her chair, balancing it on the back two legs and
crossed her arms over her chest. The thief took the hint that business was
over and palmed the leather pouch. Seconds later, he left the inn in search
of his new mark.

Inside, Ilysianna ordered an ale and pulled the hood of her cloak over
her head. She felt confident that Avarcye would be dead soon, and by her
blade. The best part of it all, she felt no remorse for killing one of her
own people.

With sword raised high and a warrior's cry
I dealt the fatal blow.
The blade hit home through flesh and bone
and down I struck my foe.

This evil man had terrorized Luskan.
I performed a "Hero's" deed.
I put my sword in my sheath, heard a cry break with grief,
and I paused before mounting my steed.

A beauty so rare with flowing black hair
knelt near the corpse in the street.
I'll remember for years as she looked through her tears,
called me "Bastard" and spit at my feet.

How could that girl or any lass in the World
weep for such a man and why?
Was it justice or murder? I'm left here to wonder,
"Was he the evil man, or was I?"

Tale One - The Beginning
The Babbler
(submitted by: OOR Babble)

All eyes were upon her, as she stood embarrassed in the center of the inn.
She arrived in Neverwinter about three new moons ago and wants to make
Neverwinter her new home. She came from a place southeast of Neverwinter, a
village near Water Deep. There she was a simple peasant, doing odd jobs for
the township, running messages to and fro. During these days, she had
overheard travelers speak of the great city Neverwinter and the fine
waterclocks that were made there. It saddened her heart to also hear of the
evils that were invading Neverwinter. She remembered meeting Lord Nasher
once when she was younger, all she recalls about him was the feeling of power
and greatness that radiated from his being.

She loved going to the big city to hear all the wondrous tales of
adventurers, fighting dragons, befriending of dragons, the quests that Lord
Nasher offered and the rewards, the riches of treasure found. It went on and
on, she would sit for hours listening until one day -- "POW", she went to the
inn to hear the travelers and there were none.. the inn was bare. She asked
the Innkeeper where everyone was and he relayed that all able bodies had been
called away to help assist in the Great War.

Others as herself had to come to listen to the bards and to the tales of the
travelers.. They were dishearten at the fact that no more stories would be
told around the fire at the inn until this Great War had been fought. That's
when it came to her.. She had heard the stories, she knew them as if she had
participated in each fight and had dealt the final blow of death to the
enemies.. So she timidly went forward to the fire and turned to face the
eager faces and began her tale.

Upon completion of her story people was applauding, throwing coins at her
feet, some were crying while others were giddy with laughter. What a mixture
of emotions she had never seen before. Afterwards, people were coming up to
her and asking her all sorts of questions.. She began gusting out answers as
if she were the subject matter expert on everything. It did not matter to
her if the answer was not correct, in her mind, the people did not want the
truth.. they wanted to be entertained. They wanted excitement in their
lives and she was bringing it to them.

From that night forward, she was always telling someone something. Her mouth
never seemed to close. It's like someone cast a spell of "babble mouth" on
her. There were times that she would be talking away and when she looked up,
she'd realized that no one was there. She had been talking out loud to
herself. HMMM, this upset her.. her audience was no longer enthralled by her
stories.. Time for her to move on and find a new audience.. Phooey on this
place.. she'll go to Neverwinter where the real action is and do these things
herself. To give credence to her stories.

So she packed her few meager belongings, said her good-byes to a few close
friends and family members and off she went... North toward Winterwinter, her
new home.

On the road to Neverwinter, she had many a night to think about her new
change of lifestyle.. would she return to her meek and mild self or would she
continue being the outspoken person she had become.. These questions
weighed heavy on her mind.. Could she find a happy medium - a balance spot
between the two.. Only time would tell.

On one night's rest, she ran across an already established firecamp and asked
the travelers if she could join them.. They opened their make-shift home to
her. They were heading south away from the Great War and the evils that had
invaded Neverwinter. They told her of the plight that was developing and how
they were heading south to Water Deep to try and recruit more magic users and
clerics. This reminded her of a story and began to gush.... again not
looking at her hosts, (she tends to get so absorbed in what she is saying
that she loses sight of the people around her), she felt a strange sensation.
She looked up to see the faces around the camp fire.. some had a look of
disbelief while others just shook their heads. She scanned the faces seated
around the fire until she held the gaze of one. She immediately knew that
this individual had attempted to silence her with a 2nd level clerical spell,
which did not work, by the way. She asked why they did such a thing.. all
you had to do was ask me to stop.

The reply was a cold hard response, "Because you never shut up or took a
breath long enough for us to tell you to stop.. You need to be more aware of
your surroundings girl. You babble way too much and that will one day get
you into trouble". With that, they all got up and moved to their desired
locations to rest for the night. Leaving her alone around the fire to think
upon the words that this cleric had spoken.

During her trek toward Neverwinter, she began hearing voices in her head..
At first she thought it was just from lack of sleep or the stress of the
travel through these dangerous times. But the closer she got to Neverwinter,
the more voices she was hearing. At first they were all jumbled together
like a constant hum of a waterfall, but by and by, they started to separate
themselves out into individuals distinct voices. One sounded like a purring
talking cat (very strange), while another was telling her of the future and
what laid in stored for her.. There was others still entering into her head..
one with flirtatious remarks that made her blush that boasted about how great
he was, and one that would sing songs which made her smile.

This was very strange to her, these voices in her head.. She began looking
forward to these voices and welcomed them on her journey. The time seem to
pass more quickly with these new found friends and company. She found
herself talking to them when they were not even there or speaking into the
air outloud telling them of the stories she had told countless times. Her
new friends in her head, did not shut her up or turn away from her. They
were the greatness, even if they were only in her head.

She thought many a time that she was losing her sanity -- talking to another
when no one was there -- but she shrugged this off.. The one who called
himself OOR Oracle - kept reassuring her that she was not insane, a little on
the edge -- but not insane. Eventually as the days passed, she learned of
their names or she gave them their names -- whatever the case -- the purring
talking cat she referred to as OOR Kitty, the great flirtatious one -- OOR
Alexan, the spunky songsters -- OOR Rascal.

The following days went uneventful until she reached the city gates of
Neverwinter. Her heart was in her throat.. She was finally here. She stood
outside the gates standing in awe of this place. She took a deep breath and
entered the city. She walked around what seemed like hours taking in all the
new sights and smells. Then she noticed one staring at her and making a
nasty face. She then realized that she was in dire need of a bath, she
smiled to herself and went off to find the inn that she had passed.

She remembered several inns (Striders, Daglows, Red Mage, and two others),
which one to go to. She set off for the closest one.. Red Mage..

She paid the innkeeper for a room and a bath.. Ahhh, she felt sooo much
better. Her adrenaline was pumping as she descended the stairs into the main
room. She had arrived in Neverwinter at about dust so the inn will just now
filling up with travelers and residents that were out for a night's meal and
story. She acquired a seat near the fire, the place where she knew all
stories were relayed, and settled down with a nice wine and meal. She
scanned the room and picked out the story-tellers (three of them), a skill
she had acquired from within her soul. She sat back awaiting the time for
the first to take their place on the chair - now vacant. The chair reserved
for only the story-teller, this was going to be a great night.... She had
the best seat in the house.. right next to the main chair. So she could hear
every word, see every gesture, and touch the story-teller that's how close
she was.

From any on the outside of the Red Mage Inn passing by, you would think a
riot was going on inside. Coming from the inside were shouts of victories,
laughter, applauding, yelling of obscenities, over turning of tables, just a
mixture of noise and excitement that she had never experienced before. But
by the looks on everyone's face, this was the norm.

The third story-teller was up and he had brought the place to a whisper. He
was a soft spoken elderly man whom she regarded was to be respected. No
playing around when he had the floor, he would not tolerate any disturbance
during his tale.

She had not noticed, upon entering the gates of Neverwinter, her voices in
her head. Maybe due to all the new sights and sounds that was flooding her
senses or the fact that they were her voices she made up in her head and now
she was in Neverwinter, she did not need them anymore. But now in the mist
of this great story-teller whom she wanted to listen to.. came the voices in
her head again.

It was OOR Kitty -- purring and meowing so loudly that it began to annoy her.
She told Kitty to stop.. that she was trying to listen to this old one tell
his tale.. but alas Kitty paid no heed. She wanted attention and she wanted
attention NOW. How dare her not talk and stroke her, after all the times she
sat and had to listen to her babble while she made her way to Neverwinter.
OOR Kitty said in a hissing manner, that is your name -- Babble.

About that time OOR Oracle voice came into her head with resounding force.
Oh, yes, I see the future holds for you this name Babble - for your mouth
overfloweth with words before ye thinks about the repercussion of such words.
I foresee you making a fool of yourself many times over before learning to
control your tongue. Then another - in a song form - it could only be OOR
Rascal singing his song to agree with OOR Kitty and OOR Oracle.

Babble, as she has come to call herself, felt herself slipping away -- over
the edge -- when yet another familiar voice entered her head... it was OOR
Alexan. He too was agreeing with the others but he welcomed her anyway into
their reality. He was telling her that they were real and not just voices.
She didn't have to listen to this -- you are in my head -- I made you up she
said.

"No, we are real.", all four said in unison. If you are sooo real then, she
yelled, make yourselves know to me... At that moment, she realized that she
was standing on the story-tellers spot with the old one eyeing her with a
smirk on his face, it was so quiet one could hear a pin drop in the inn.
Apparently, Babble had once again got lost in her thoughts and was talking
outloud. Speaking to the voices in her head but to the audience,
embarrassed, she scanned the audience, she had to do a double blink for there
standing next to the old story-teller was one holding a cat which was purring
very loudly and meowing. One humming a tune that sounded familiar, yes, the
one she heard in her head. Next to him was one who did a bow and gesture of
welcome. She was home.

The End.... or is it?
Aftermath
(submitted by: Hakar1)

He stood at sunset looking on the field.
The twisted forms, cold and lifeless revealed
Hands grasping, snatching one last hold on life
Frozen now in agony, in endless strife.
He looked on a foe which he cleaved in twain
The face of youth now twisted with pain.
He lay drained of lifes essence and pleasure.
For an Evil cause, he gave his last full measure
of devotion. Evilness drains the vitality of youth.
Tis far easier to destry than to face that truth.
Perhaps that was the difference between he and I,
My hearts filled with love, and his filled with lies.
What loved one awaits news in the place he called home?
Does his children now know the Dark Horseman has come?
The Knight gathered himself and walked into the setting sun
knowing full well that this day victory was won.
He thought to himself, "Life's to precarious and has all to short a lease
to wage battle after battle without making peace."
He resolve his hearts struggle as he walked in Tyr's light,
"I shall spead love throught the realms and set injustice aright."

Talanithus' Story
(submitted by: GreySavant)

"Ahh,.... I see you question how one of such a mixed heritage could be the
instrument of Corellon," says Talanithus as he waves to his gray skin, a
mixture of the dark tones of the Mori'Quessir and the light ones of the
Mith'Quessir. "That is a strange tale... but I will tell you, so you might
know who and what I am, for my childhood speaks much for my future."

"It began with a Mori'Quessir, a Drow priestess of the house Eilservs, named
Elayse. She had begun to question the truth behind Lloth's teachings, and the
answers she found led her to find a hidden sect of priestess' that worshipped
a different goddess. Her name was Eilistraee, a good goddess of those Drow
who wished to turn from the dark ones and come back to surface realms. Her
searches led her to adopt Eilistraee as her goddess and to flee from the
wrath of her House and Lloth's cult. She fled to the surface world, seeking
what haven could be found. Unfortunately, not much haven is available to a
lone Drow on the surface world. She was spurned and ridiculed, and even
attacked by those good and evil alike.

"But that all changed one strange midsummer day. Elayse was sleeping through
the brightness of the day in a hidden cave when she heard a strange sound,
something like an animal approaching on stealthy paws. With the lithe ease
that comes from living the life of a fugitive, she quickly grabbed her blades
and hid within a shadow of the cave. As she sat, with the tension flowing
through the air, she thought she heard the sound of a lone footfall. Then a
shadow streaked inside the cave with the glint of metal proceeding hit.
Knowing the danger she was in, Elayse decided to face her situation with the
Honor of a Priestess of Eilistraee. With a bold cry, she leapt into the
center of the cavern and proceeded to level a high strike at this stranger's
head. The unknown stalker's blade whirled into a tight defensive formation
and parried her blow, only to turn and catch her second sword as it streaked
to gut him. Their blades whirled in the silence of the cave, the only sounds
intruding on their strange dance the rhythmic clanging of their blades
against each other. Back and forth they pushed their duel, yet neither could
win a clear advantage. For what seemed like hours, they pushed first one,
then the other, and yet neither could pierce the deadly defense of trained
Bladesingers.

"Suddenly, a bright flash of blue light coursed through the darkness. Both
warriors were blinded by the appearance, and quickly strode backwards to
evade their opponent's swords. but what they saw when they opened their eyes
was not what either of them expected. Standing in front of them were two
glowing figures, one of an androgynous Elven warrior with longsword bared and
the other a beautiful Drow warrioress, with her long white hair the only
clothing about her lithe frame. They were none other then the incarnate forms
of Corellon and Eilistraee.

"This fight shall end now!" said the avatar of Corellon, "we have too much
work for the two you to allow the waste of your lives on each other's
blades..."

"Yes,..." replied the beautiful Drow, "please, my child, stop and speak."

"Needless to say, the two fighters were stunned by the appearance of their
gods. As they stood there befuddled by the strange situation, the same blue
glow began to enwrap their god's avatars. And then they were alone in the
cave, the blue light slowly dimming to the near darkness. "Well, I guess you
should come with me,' said the Gray Elf, 'I am Astilanithus Tarant, Lord of
Haven. It is a, er... pleasure to get to know you.'

"As you can imagine, it was an uncomfortable moment, but Elayse went with
Astilanithus to his keep, and as the years passed they became a powerful
force working in tandem to promote the good of all Elvendom. The did much for
their Lord and Lady, but in the end, it was they who were rewarded for their
service. You see, Elayse and Astilanithus fell in love and were married,
giving birth to one son.

"That son was me, Talanithus Tarant. I was born the child of Mori'Quessir and
Mith'Quessir, my skin to ever bear the mark of my parent's strange love, my
mind to ever bear the disgrace of my own people's refusal to understand that
love knows no racial pride. I am a herald of the union to come between the
Tel'Quessir, the reunion of The People into one race, as ordained by Corellon
and Elistraee's will. But my quest was not always so...

"Suffice it to say that I was called to this world from my own, for the gods
know no boundaries in their love for their people. I am here to bring the
word of Eilistraee's salvation and Corellon's forgiveness to the Mori'Quessir
of the Realm.

"I must preach the Word to the Tel'Quessir, to see beyond the barriers of
skin and clan, and see into the hearts and souls of all of Corellon's
creatures. We are one race, one people, the Tel'Quessir. The time has come to
cease the incessant wars of our bloody heritage and accept each other as the
brothers and sisters we truly are. Lloth's lies must be countered with the
beauty of the Seldarine's truth.

"And that is the story of my ashen skin, and the purpose of my quest inside
of Neverwinter's walls. I have bared the truth of my heritage, if not my
past. Perhaps you can see through to give me sanction within your halls, for
I fear that there will be those of the Mori'Quessir who will not turn from
the Spider Queen's ways, and they will surely seek to slay me.

"In the name of Corellon, I ask The Grey Company for shelter from my enemies,
comrades in my adventures, friends at my side, and laughter in my heart. In
return, I offer a divine quest, a difficult battle, and a dedicated warrior.

"Please consider my offer carefully, for I cannot promise safety to ant who
choose to follow my quest. But I can promise something far better. I offer
the reunion of the Tel'Quessir and a chance to tender service to the gods
themselves.

Your Humble Servant,
Talanithus Tarant
The GreySavant of the Tel'MithrimA Song for the Evening
(submitted by: GreySavant)

The night was brisk as Talanithus Tarant, also known as the GreySavant,
walked into the Great Hall Tavern. He whirled his ebony cloak back from his
body, it's constantly shifting forms blurring the eye. As his cloak fell back
from his elven chain armored form, the pommel of a longsword became visible,
its hilt tied with a peace-knot as he entered into this place of Neutrality.
His bright blue eyes scanned the crowds as they in turn studied the newcomer.
From a table in the corner of the room, Talanithus heard a familiar voice
yell out, "Vedui' Melonamin!"

Turning, the elf saw his good friend Det Kovatt, another elven member
of the Tel'Mithrim with a history as strange as his own. With a quick smile
to the patrons of this lovely establishment, the GreySavant unstrung his
black bow and placed in it the quiver across his back, pulling the hood to
his cloak down at the same time. His face, once revealed by the fire's bright
light (thanks to all the wood), was a strangely beautiful mix of the dark
skin of the Mori'Quessir (Drow) and the light tones of the Mith'Quessir (Grey
Elves), with a long stream of bone white hair cascading down from a platinum
circlet bearing the crescent moon of Corellon.

A short trip across the tavern and Talanithus stood before a table of
his Tel'Mithrim brothers. Det Kovatt and Lightheart were taking their ease of
NeverWinter's troubles with slim glasses of fey between their hands, and
laughter within their hearts. As Talanithus bowed and greeted the two
Tel'Quessir, another of their clan, Kyodai ken, came through the tavern
doors.

A fresh round of greetings began as the Tel'Quessir greeted each other
and made room at the table, with idle chit chat proceeding as the lovely
Spryte fetched a fresh bottle of Fey. Unfortunately, the roar within the
Tavern was quite loud, so Talanithus decided to quiet it up with a nice song
to bring the crowd into harmony.

Talanithus' suggestion of a song for the evening's festivities was met
with approval by the patron's, including such notables as Lord Randym himself
and the indominitable Gumples of the Axepeak Clan. Seeing such a favorable
response, Talanithus retrieved his small traveling harp and began to play a
simple melody...

"This is a song from my Father's past, when the city he lived in was
attacked by the forces of DemonSpawn, an evil citadel controlled by the Red
Wizards of Thay. So listen closely and relive those days of glory and fear,
as Demon-Spawn's armies drew near in The Lay of Arendale...."

Come listen closely, folk of Arendale
To this story of Victory and Faith
Of fears conquered over, never to wail
Of steady companions to keep us all safe

START CHORUS
I sing of the Battle of Arendale
Where Demon-Spawn's forces both rose and fell
And comrades in arms, did rise up and shout
When evil was forced back and pushed into rout
END CHORUS

Our soldier's are strong and keen of eye
Invincible shields to all who might try
To pit themselves against our assembled might
And banish their souls to eternal night

So gather your weapons and lift them high
Though fate might hold you, soon to die
For what greater glory is there known to man
Then to give up your life for Good's final stand

REPEAT CHORUS

Corellon we call out to gird our magic
Sehanine we ask you, guard over our tragic
Solonor we beg you, victory today
Seldarine's great power to show us the way

To all of the god's in all of the lands
All followers of Good, as countless as sands
Come witness our battle, come feel our great plight
And lend us this day your eternal might

REPEAT CHORUS

For we are the bastion of Good in this land
We stand versus Evil under Corellon's hand
We fight today, to clear the way
So Evil might perish and Good might stay

So hearken all you of Arendale
We've laid our plans and I've told my tale
Gather your arms and stand your posts
For today we'll lay down this foul Evil host

The crowd clapped politely as Talainthus finished his song, the last
note echoing throughout the hall. With a wry grin, he stilled the harp and
made his way back to the table, smiling at the inquisitve look given to him
by a quiet patron in the corner. With a nimble jump, GreySavant slipped back
into his chair and called out, "Spryte, love. Please bring me another bottle
of Fey, my voice is simply parched!"

As Spryte quickly brought him a bottle of their best Elven wine,
Lightheart leaned over and whispered into his ear, "Look at Mystri. She is
showing quite a bit of cleavage this eveing..."

"Ah yes," was Talanithus' quick reply, "and a nice show of cleavage
too..." This followed, of course, by his ever ready grin...

The laughter ran quickly through the table as we all jested about our
recent adventures within the perils of NeverWinter, but Kyodai ken seemed to
be somewhat quiet during our conversation. Not to be delayed by a slim lull
in the flow of talk, the GreySavant stood and bowed to his companions. "I
believe I have a conversation waiting for me across the room, melloneamin. If
you will please excuse me for a second..."

His swift feet soon took him to the table of the inquisitve patron who
had looked at him so oddly after his song. "Vedui' and greetings... I am
Talanithus Tarant, also known as the GreySavant." Grey's quick hands brought
out a bottle of Fey and two slim crystal glasses, "I could not help but
notice the strange look upon your countance when I finished my tale. Would
you share a glass with me and speak of what moved you so?"

The strange woman looked up at Grey's approach, somewhat surprised by
his bold manner. "I am sorry, my Lord, but I do not know what you are talking
about..." was her reply, "but you may sit if you like. I am Kyrasha."

"Are you sure, good woman? I could not mistake the look I saw within
your eyes. A stirring of the soul perhaps?" said Talanithus as he sat into
the empty chair.

"Well, I am quite sure there was no stirring of my soul, although I
will not swear on any other stirrings.." was Kyrsha's witty reply.

"What exactly do you mean, my Dear?" said Talanithus as he poured the
glasses full of fine Elven Fey.

At this moment, a rather large warrior came walking up to the table.
"Greetings Kyrasha! How fare thy travels?"

Startled by this sudden approach, Kyrasha looked up at the strong
warrior, her tongue stumbling in her suprise, "I..I'm fine, Centruo. How are
you?"

Talanithus stood from his chair and perfomed a slight bow to the
warrior, saying, "Vedui'! Greetings Centruo. I am Talanithus Tarant, also
known as the Grey Savant."

Centruo turned to look at the elven warrior-bard, his eyes quickly
taking in his weapons and armor, then coming to rest on the corclet he wore
about his head. "Greetings, elven warrior."

After announcing that Centruo's wedding was fast approaching, Kyrasha
told Talanithus and the human warrior that she was not feeling well, and
perhaps would do better without the pleasure of comapny at this time.

Centruo bowed and made his way out of the Tavern after a last
"Farewell", while Talanithus stood, leaving the decanter of fine Fey on the
table, and said, "Very well, quiet one. I hope perhaps we can share the
pleasure of conversation some other time. Until then, Aluve'! May Corellon's
blessings find you ever happy and content." A quick bow, and Talanithus was
across the room, once more in the company of his fellow Tel'Mithrim
melonamin.

"How fares thy brother?" asked Talanithus while he motioned to Spryte
yet again, "I have journeyed with him some few times in the past days and
have found him to be a hearty companion.."

"He is fine, fine." was Strick's quick reply, "as always, he is out
touring the realms..."

"I have heard that you are becoming quite the Bladesinger, heru. Riklaun
speaks very highly of your prowess. Perhaps we can practice some time, eh?"

Just then, Strick's reply was cut short by the sudden arrival of the
beautiful Spryte, her breathless smile showing her face in fine form. With
quick nod to another patron's uprasied hand, she leaned down next to
Talanithus (showing quite an ample view of firm cleavge <not claevage, that's
Mystri {lol}>), and awaited his order.

"Be a love, won't you, Spryte dear, and fetch me something vegetarian
from your wonderful kitchen?" said Talanithus as he idly caressed one
Spryte's long auburn tresses, "I am so hungry, but that wolve's eating habits
leave quite a bit to be desired."

With a quick smile and a saucy shake of her lovely tush, Spryte wisked
off into the kitchen, her deft and agile form dodging the hands of those who
sought more of her then was shown to the eye. Her quick return was heralded
by the most exquiste smell. A bowl of fine stew, laced with various
vegetables and brimming with spicy broth, was complimented with a sweet
smelling loaf of Herb Bread! "This is my special Herb Bread, Grey. I hope
you like it!"

Talanithus took a deep sniff of the aromatic loaf and turned to Spryte
with wonder in his eyes. "Like it? My lovely Dear, I LOVE it!" And the he
reached out to give Spryte a quick hug and a kiss on the forehead. "You are a
wonder, love. Absolutely a wonder!!"

With a light laugh and a quick twist, Spryte disengaged herself from
Talanithus' arms and proceeded to make her rounds.

As Talanithus set down to finish his delightful meal, with occasional
samples stolen by Det and Strick, Mystri called out to the patrons saying
"All right than all, It's about time to close shop. Last call for one my
specialties..."

Hearing the heralding of this fine evenings end, Talanithus turned to
his fellow Tel'Mithrim and asked, "What do you think, melloneamin, one last
song to sing the night away?"

"Aye!,"replied Det Kovatt with a hearty pull on his glass, "One last
song to sing us home."

"Yes," replied Mystri, "please sing another song for us, good Grey."

GreySavant pulled out his lute once again, strumming a soft tune as the
tavern quieted down with the eve's remaining patron's. "This song is also of
my Father, when he fought a dread Dracolich with theWyrmWood. It is called
"The Slaying of the Dragon of Wyrm Wood".

We strode into the Dragon's Wood
Our hearts were pure and our intentions good
When out of the darkness, an evil crept
To steal upon us, as we all slept

It's foul breath did lay us gagging with stench
But we raised up with weapons and arms to clench
We laid our spells and called out to our deities
And stepped into battle's bloody entreaties

Lee-High lifted his crystal rod of power
And lit up the heavens with a lightning shower
Wise Froth called down his holy might
And fire poured forth to light up the night

Greenbow and Uba did let arrows fly
But it's hide was impervious to all they might try
Astilanithus grew and stepped into melee
And threw his blue flame to light the way

Then Greenbow did lift his trusty sword
And rushed to the creature to pull battle forward
Uba, Nadette, and Froth were laid low with sickness
But their eyes can tell you all that they witnessed

For Greenbow, Lee-High, and Astilanithus were alone
And here it was that bravery was shown
For their blades dug deep into the creatures hide
Though it raked them with claws deep into their sides

Until with a shout, the mighty dragon was dead
With Astilanithus' sword ColdFire cleaved into it's head
And Lee-High did lift the Symbol of Ra's light
And destroyed it's foul corpse in the dark night

And so it is said in the tales of this land
Of how the company of the Blue Flame did take the Dragon's stand
And in their bravery did free us all
So that Good might prevail and Evil might fall

"And so ends the foul Dracolich," replied Talanithus to the scattered
applause, "a beast which haunts these realms in numbers." With a short bow,
Talanithus turned to the ladies as they quickly closed the Tavern.

Their quick hands made short work of the evenings cleaning as the
patrons began to work their way into the cold night. Some even planned to
stay after hours, with Mystri's approval, and continued the celebration into
the early hours of the morning.

"Well, my lovely Dears," said Talanithus to the two sisters, "remember
that even if you have found a home for your selves, my heart is always open
to you."

With that fond goodbye, Talanithus finished his Fey and stood, bowing to
the wonderful tavern ladies and his fellow Tel'Mithrim. "Vedui', melloneamin.
I pray that Corellon watches over and blesses each of you as we wander home."

***** EDITOR'S NOTE: This recounting is not to be looked at as a definitive
re-telling, since I am sure I have missed pieces of information and
overlooked some people completely. All I can offer as reconcilliation is
this: next time, try and get my attention. then you know I'll write you in.

The GreySavantThe Well
(submitted by: OMM RYLD)

A still form moved silently into the night, a shadow in the evergrowing
abyss of night. The night sky was over cast not a glisting gem in the sky,
all was dark, deeply folded into the night that vision was nearly
immpossible. The lone figure picked their way along a forelorn trail down a
winding path into the lowlands surrounding silverymoon, a rarely traveled
path, especialy at night. The figure seemed to care little for what lay
beyound or the surrounding area content only on keeping the path going down
into the widening valley. The valley open and wide a swampy marsh, a bog of
sorts filled with an old cemetary and long over run temple to some lost god.

The figure seemed to slow and walk more cuasiously now taking care as
where the path lead, almst as if he sended something was out there. As he
skirted along the edge of the cemmetry he paused and looked over his shoulder
( how long has it been he thought how many years) the thought passed quickly
as he herd his foot find a dead branch "Snap" a flutter of movement could be

dead bark, Juanus lept backward and sprang off the tree towards the opening
of the well some thirty feet away, the hunter now moving at him fired again
as he dove head long into an even darker abyss the well. Juanus herd the
bolts zipp past and slam into the well side, exploding and sending rock
everywhere the darkness drew him in...

Juanus reached down and pulled out his twin dagger's "Raz and Corr"

Corr into a Violet color showing Juanus the sides of the well as he slammed

the well, deep they bit into the stone surface of the well to defind his

the side off the well.An Excerpt from the Second Journal of Lady Virtu
(submitted by: Lady Virtu)

Dear Diary,

This entry marks the end of my childhood and the beginning of my youth, for
this is the first entry in my second Journal. For two weeks now my childhood
Journal has stood with a single entry yet to be filled, and now, at last, it
is complete. I'm not exactly a woman yet, but I am a child no longer.

As is long custom, what follows in this first entry of youth, is the same as
my last entry of childhood.

Two weeks ago, daddy approved the next to the last entry, and I thought that
the last would certainly be filled in a day or two. I wrote entry after
entry, but each time, dad would approve it and mom would reject it, or mom
would approve it and dad would reject it.

The rules were simple enough, or so I thought. Each Journal entry must
contain an account of a significant event in my life. Each of my attempts at
Journal entries over the next week were full of significance....I had made
careful plans to make it a very interesting week, but by the end of the
week, the last page of my childhood Journal still stood empty.

Out of utter desperation, I walked up to Lord Trithar's youngest son, Wavin
and kissed him dead on the lips. They certainly couldn't reject my first
kiss as being insignificant, even if Wavin was a year younger than me, being
only ten years of age. Still, at the end of the day, my Journal was still
unfilled, my mother having smiled and muttered something to the effect of
"what could possibly be significant about a single kiss".

The next morning was holy day and I was free from duties till evening
service. I rose early and rode into town. I walked straight into the Keep
and requested an audience with Lord Trithar. I know, it was sheer audacity
to do it, but my frustration and my determination blinded me. I was not
even surprised when Lord Trithar granted an audience. My father, being one
of Lord Trithar's chief Vassals, spoke with him every day, why would the
lord not speak with me?

The guard escorted me into the high lord's audience chamber. The guard had a
bit of a grinning smirk on his face that I didn't like, but I ignored it as
best I could. I stepped into the chamber and the guard closed the doors
between us, leaving me alone in the room.

In a moment, the high lord entered from a door to the rear of the room.
Before I could utter a word, he said, "I assume that this has something to do
with your encounter with young Wavin?"

I blushed, no doubt a brilliant red, as is my unfortunate custom. I
stammered a bit, but managed to convey that no, my visit had nothing to do
with Wavin. The lord only raised his eyebrows and waited for me to
continue.

I explained that Sir Vansidow was my Sword Master and that I was aware that
that Lord Trithar was, in turn, Sir Vansidow's Sword Master. I told the
high lord that my Journal was almost full and that I wished to defeat my
Sword Master in mock single combat at least once before my childhood ended.
`Twas true that the idea started as a way to fill my last Journal entry, but
now that it was conceived, the idea had a life of its own. It filled me with
passion that I had not known before.

Lord Trithar laughed. `Twas a deep and joyous laugh and I could not help but
smile, even as I realized that the laughter might be pointed in my direction.

Lord Trithar let out a bellow of such volume as you might expect of a high
lord. He called for mock swords. A guard arrived, nie without delay,
bearing two mock swords and shields. He addressed the guard, "Mark me well!
Sir Vansidow is to hear none of this!". With no small trace of a grin, the
guard responded in the affirmative.

"Ok, girl. Let's see what you've got." was all he said before the torture
began.

For two solid hours, we sparred. He granted me, in his lordly generousity,
breaks of 20 seconds between each round. Toward the end, I learned not to
fear the mock fatal blow that would end the round. Instead, I almost
welcomed it because of the breif respite that would follow afterward. In a
perverse mystery worthy of the Lady of Mystery herself, my lack of fear
seemed to improve my skill and served only to prolong the rounds.

During one early bout, the guard stepped in and announced that Lord Hagrinett
was here for his appointment. Without letting up on his mock assault, the
high lord proclaimed that he was unavailable for the rest of the day.

At the end of two hours, he called an end, saying, "I think I've got your
measure now girl. It'll be a good number of years before you can beat
Vansidow in a fair fight. He is one of my best, though not nearly as good as
he thinks he is."

I was crestfallen. My plans were for naught. Then the high lord spoke
again, "No my little Lady, you won't beat him fair, so we sha'n't play fair".
I know his weaknesses in battle -- All the error's he's prone to. I would
have trained them out of him years ago, but they are mostly inconsequential
things. Mistakes that you wouldn't be aware of or take advantage of unless
you'd been sparring with him for years."

Now, I was elated, for something of the sort was what I had been hopping for.

I and the high lord had breakfast, lunch, and sup on our feet in the audience
chamber that day. Thankfully, the rest of the day was not as proportionately
gruelling as the first two hours had been, or I would surely have perished
from exhaustion. We practiced one move and one move only. He taught me not
only the move, but when to make the move and how to watch for the signs that
the time was right. We practiced and we practiced and we practiced.

It came near time for services. The high lord called for paper and quill.
He wrote one note to my parents and one note to the Temple. They each said
the same thing. "Young Lady Virtu is excused from services on this day.
She is on a holy mission -- a lesson in humility." The high lord and I
shared a smile, both knowing how his note would be misinterpreted.

We practiced all the day and into the night. Towards the end, the high lord
called a break and I slumped against a wall that was conveniently close. I
must have fallen asleep, for the next thing I knew, I was startled awake as
the high lord issued a battle cry. He came at me using one of my Sword
Master's favorite moves. I was too sleepy to see the opening that he left
me, but my eyes saw it and my body reacted. The mock fatal blow was sure and
the high lord made quite a show of his mock death.

The high lord released me and saw me to the door of the keep.

The guard started to go with me as escort, but the high lord stopped him.
"She has no need of your services. She needs only this." He handed me
sword and scabbard that he had brought with him. `Twas a real sword, not a
mock one. He said it was mine to keep. He kissed my hand.

The ride home was a short one. Far shorter than the ride from home to keep
had been, 20 hours before.

My parents were both still up, many hours after it was their custom to
retire. They asked only if I were well. They saw the sword, but they did
not mention it.

I rested a full week, making sure to keep my muscles in tone throughout. On
the morning of the next holy day, Somula, my elder sister, and I rose early
and walked to the house of our Sword Master. She had mock sword and shield
with her. I was unarmed. The Master answered his own door. Somula raised
her sword and announced loudly, "Today you fall to a daughter of the House
of Vesbinette"

Our Master laughed and protested that he was quite unarmed. He begged
chivalry from my sister that he be allowed to go and return shortly with a
sword.

When he returned, they sparred. The first mock fatal blow he applied to my
sister was very short in coming, for he used all his skill in an effort to
teach her a lesson for her arrogance. Somula simply cried, "Again!".

They fought for three hours. I'm sure he did not begrudge her the time, for
in the past he was always pushing her to practice more on her sword work
instead of her other studies that she was more fond of. Her only response to
each mockfatal blow he dealt her was to cry "Again!".

I know it was unfair to tire him out that way, but I so wanted to make my
defeat of him in the first round.

At the end of three hours, Somula looked at our Master me assuringly, then
walked over to me and handed me sword and shield. I cried my challenge.

"Ah, so the younger Vesbinette has a hand in this as well", was all he said.

He came at me with great skill and confidence. His mock death took me a full
thirty seconds to accomplish. He fell to a maneuver that I could now do in
my sleep if need be.

He nodded his head as if I had just confirmed something that he had long
suspected. He bowed to me and then to my sister. He saddled his horse and
road off toward the keep.

`Tis rumored that the high lord spent a second holy day engaged in mock
combat, not with a young girl, but with his best swordsman.

The day after that, on this day, a guard has delivered to me, a note, from
the high lord. It says only this: "You have given me a better Vassal, and I
have given you a better Sword Master. Do not hope to defeat him again. I am
no longer his Sword Master. He is mine."

I have taken a step upon the Path of Mystery. I sought to learn what it is
to not be a child. I sought to learn sword play and victory. Instead I
learned that for the poorest farmer, or the highest lord, or.......for
me......the steps ahead are, and always will be, uncountable. Such is the
Path of Mystery.

May Artsym Guide Thy Magics. Boomtown
(submitted by: ABK Danger)

As I enetered the gates of NeverWinter for the first time in a long
span, the first thing I noticed was the new smells. The fishmongers at the
docks were busier than ever, the fires of the blacksmiths had never burned
hotter. The smell of sweat an dried blood spoke of adventures come to seek
their fortunes. As had I. The lure of Never Winter does get embedded in your
soul and I was just one of many who had decided to come home. I immeadiately
stopped by the hostel to find a room. The No Vacancy sign in the window told
me that others had beat me here. I traveled on to Blood Keep and found a home
in the barracks there. As I doned the red and black of ABK i decided it was
time to familiarize myself again with this town. I was surprised to find that
that the vault keeper had remembered my name and had indeed maintained my
vault while I was away. Withdrawing my equipment I went on my way through
Southwall to Vilnask. Yes, the Dracolich's were ruling there. It amazes me
how fight as we might the infestation continues. Behind me I heard a voice,
"Well Met my friend!"

"Bannwyn, it has to be Bannwyn." I said to myself. I turned around to gaze
into the old warriors eyes, "Well met indeed!" I said. " I can't believe you
are still here!"

"This IS my favorite watch." he said.

"I believe it! You stilll hope to rid the people of this evil?"

"A more valiant battle I cannot think of, and then It does have it's
rewards!"

I joined Bannwyn and some other knights that I did not recognize for the days
watch. Indeed it was rewarding. After, I returned to the Palace and met
with Lord Nasher. He was concerned with my findings and rewarded me for the
Dagger I presented him.

"Fish! Fresh Fish!" was all I heard as I walked past the docks. I could not
help but to think to myself as I gazed at all the young fighters and thieves
who had made their way to this town,.....:" Fresh Fish Indeed!!!"

DangerThe Gift
(submitted by: Ssc Shana)

As Shana sat at the non descript but large, and exceptionally smooth marble
table her fingers listlessly toyed with a Brooch with a Rose Amethyst stone
inset into it. She stared at the jewel as her nimble fingers deftly moved the
item in an intricate circular pattern. The stone began to shimmer and then
glow with its own preterntural light.

She felt a splash of warmth on her cheek as an identical brooch and stone
that she wore on her own travelling cloak burst forth with its own glow as if
in answer to its twin. Shana often sat in the quiet of her quarters and
attuned the stones to each other to see if her magicks long ago cast would
fade with time. Each and every time the stones as if playfully, would answer
her call.

She was adrift in her own reverie and barely noticed the Fairy Dragon as he
winked in and out of sight as he flitted into her quarters. She sank back
into thought as she recalled the wonderful rose that Otthawk had sent her and
how it had warmed when she touched it. She also thought about the kindness of
the Prince for his gift, as she made up her mind.

"Newt", Shana announced, "would you please summon me sis Godiva, I need a
favor on her wedding day" . Newt obviously startled from his ongoing feast of
fresh fruit from the far reaches of Nesme' sprang into the air and
immediately blinked out of sight. Shana continued to stare at the spot he
left and as if on cue he re-appeared, she jumped a bit as she would do when
his telepathic voice entered her mind and as always Shana was startled by the
smoothness and clarity of his thoughts. "Yes M'lady", Newt responded, gave
his best dragon bow, then promptly fluttered back out the large and airy
window he had entered through. Shana was always amazed that her familiars
voice was as powerful as it was....and as she usd to tease him "He is soooo
little". She smiled as she busily began preparing for Godiva's arrival.

She was carefully wrapping the brooch and was planning to place it in a
small and magically protected oak chest. The chest itself was only about 6
inches long and 4 inches high...but as one peered inside its size didn't
convey its roominess.

As she was almost prepared to place the Brooch into the small chest she
gently touched its smooth surface tracing a line gently with her finger and
her mind started to drift back into time. She recalled the day in a tower
near the City of Phlan when she was younger and magic was wonderous. How she
and her master had revitalized the SoulStones....a family heirloom of hers..
two twin stones attuned to each other by the lifeforce of one person. She
remembered the words that Theost had told her as the mighty magicks were
drawing to a climax and her knees began to weaken from the departure of her
own essence.. her soul if you will was deposited into each of the stones. He
had caught her as she finally gave way to her weariness....as he helped her
to her room and placed her upon her mattress he spoke those fateful words to
her. "Sha~" Theost said as he brushed a whisp of hair out of her eyes. "Ye
have convinced me to help ye reforge magicks of old. I would have never
helped anyone remake such items... but you, I have raised ye as me own and
will always love ye. But these stones....verily the same ones that ye Father
and Mother wore must be dealt with the utmost care.....you see child ye SOUL
is in thy stones and bound with thee for all time. As long as ye live and
breathe they will shine as ye shine.....If one is ever taken without ye
consent it will appear lifeless and void and will only bring the thief ill
luck.....and will ever seek to return to you. You will always have a link to
the stone to know its location if ye wear its twin on ye cloak. Now child
hear me.......If ye willingly give thy stone with ye heart and soul then a
mighty bond be made. The twin stone will always let the recepient know of ye
well being...and communications be possible through them....Beware ye heart
child lest ye fall victim to unfelt feelings or a broken heart." Shana
recalled drifting off to sleep with his last words, and had been forever
guarding her heart.....maybe too protectively.

"Yes M'lady...", Godiva's appearance broke the reverent spell that Shana
had been entranced in....."Godiva...Sis....", Shana whispered as she sealed a
missive", could you do me a favor and deliver something to Prince Otthawk at
HC Keep?"A Pirate's Tale
(submitted by: Pegasus007)

After a fierce battle in Vilnask with a few friends, I decided to travel
back to safer grounds and recoup from the injuries that I barely escaped with
my life. Thou I cannot say the same for my companions. They insisted that I
flee, to save myself, but the lure of gold and treasure outweighed my fear of
death. One companion then another fell to the likes of Ice hounds and wolfs.
We whittled there numbers from 8 to 2, and then it was one, my friend
overcame with rage tried to move and backstabb, but the wolf then chewed him
to pieces. Alas it was one on one, I with Hp very low, and my magic depleted
just went head to head, blow to blow. And out of nowhere came an lone
fighter, I was thankful yet overcome by guilt, that I alone had lived. I put
my head low and wandered back to the city .

While sitting at the bar, and listening to the stories of other
adventures I over heard a rumor that someone had discovered the reason why
the well in Floodblest was dry, and the waters where turning to poison. This
adventure said that the answer you seek is down the well, I cannot give you
more info than that, if you are curious go look for yourself. Well I must
say that the unknown peeked my curiosity and the hope for untold fortunes,
was the only lure that I needed. I finished my drink, healed my wounds and
set off for the well in Floodblest.

After reaching the well and rethinking my strategy on how I was going to
handle this task, I awaited for another party of adventures to come my way,
and after a few that said no, There finally came a group that was willing to
let me tag along. With my heart pounding and the excitement building, I
descended the ladder. The ladder stopped and we where in some sort of
underground caverns that where beneath the city. It was hard for me to keep
up with my fellow adventures, through some sort of magical force we were
teleported from one spot to another. I being disoriented and confused yelled
out for them, but no answer came in the darkness. I cast a couple of spells
and me, and made it to another ladder going down. Deeper down into the
darkness I descended and when at the bottom rung of the ladder I let go,
turned around and there was a Mage, the likes that I have yet to see, he hit
me some powerful spell that left me almost dead, he then left and let his
minions try to ward me off. A giant red minotaur started my way, and then a
voice out of the darkness said, Hey Pegasus you need help? I frantically
yelled yes, but by the time they appeared to fight, the creatures attacked
and the next thing I know I am at the gate, bleeding and barley able to walk,
I staggered to the inn to rest. Looking myself over I realized that my
scrolls were gone along with my shield. He did get the best of me this time,
but I will be back, and this time I wont be off my guard, and I will be
looking for his trap, and conquer him and his followers. I wonder what
treasure awaits me after this battle.

Dragon Realm
(submitted by: TCN Selvin)

"Death to all mages!" a drunken laggard yelled across the tavern moments
before passing out. The Dragon Spit tavern was a poor establishment, but by
far not the worst in Neverwinter. The walls were made of oak, and the
floorboards the same. There was one window, but that was facing an alley,
where no one with a light stomach wanted to look into. The floor was
constantly filled with unconscious men, and the substance the locales called
Firewater which was the house's specialty.

Garrett shook his head and looked at the man in disgust. He turned to his
companion and remarked, "These stupid brutes can't seem to figure out when
they've had enough to drink. Don't they know that Firewater dulls the
senses?"

"Aye, you could hit them on the head, and they would think it was raining,"
the man across the table chuckled.

Garrett was a young mage dressed in plain robes from his neck to his ankles.
He has bright blue eyes which accented his pale face. His hair was brown,
much like the dirty waters of Vanguard Lake. He has a severely hawk shaped
nose, which stuck out like an elf in Myth Dranor. His friend Palin was much
the same, blue eyes, brown hair, but his skin was more of a golden color,
like his uncle's. His nose was normal, well normal in human terms anyway.

Garrett took in deep breath and sucked in that omnipresent ubiquitous smell
of Firewater, "This place stinks like a drunken gully dwarf."

Palin chuckled, "Perhaps because there is a drunken gully dwarf in here," he
replied pointing to the corner of the tavern.

"Well, enough with that, why did you call me here?" Garrett questioned.

"Actually I was wondering the same thing. Didn't you call me here?" Palin
replied with a hint of fear in his voice.

Garrett stared daggers into Palin's eyes, "Don't be kidding around like that,
you know what happened to Keldon not four nights ago."

"Ugh, that macabre story again. I swear though, I didn't call you here,
mayhaps yer the one lying to me?" Palin spoke firmly.

"Me?" Garret said with much disbelief, "You know how I hate being in places
like this."

"Then explain this letter..." Palin pulled out a small parchment from one of
the secret pouches in his robes.

Palin, come meet me in the Dragon Spit tavern at sundown on the third night
of Alturiak. I have much to discuss.
                                                Garret Failhorn

Garrett looked at the letter looking for a mistake in it, but found none. He
said simply, "That's my handwriting, but I didn't write it."

"Then who?" Palin said looking around nervously.

Just then the door of the Tavern crashed open and three men walked in. The
men had shrouds around there faces. They looked much like thieves, or worse.
They immediately started walking toward Palin and Garrett.

"Oh, oh, looks like trouble," Palin said not able to take his eyes off the
men.

The man who seemed to be in charge approached Palin and offered him his hand,
"The names Toogle, Toogle Tateland. I'm a trader, and I've heard that you
two have some..." he paused, "connections, that may help me and my esteemed
associates.

"W... what do you mean connections?" Palin's voice cracked.

"Well I mean,", he looked around the room, "aren't you two apprentice's of
Rylard?"

"Well yeah," Palin answered frantically trying to calm himself down.

"Then I've come to the right place. I've heard that the lands of Waterdeep
and Shadowdale already possess gunpowder, and I intend to bring it to
Neverwinter also."

"Gunpowder?" Garrett broke in, "Isn't that the component that they use in
arquebus' to make then fire little pellets at incredible speed?"

"That be the stuff. I need two people who know how the mind of Rylard works,
so we can sneak the stuff in. He think's that gunpowder is a bad thing. I
hope that you two could be of service."

Garrett's eyes gleamed with excitement, "Of course we will!" he yelled.

"Shhh... don't tell anyone, this is a hush hush thing you know?" Toogle
explained.

"Got it... so, what do you want us to do." Garrett asked eagerly.

"Well we need to know when Rylard is out of town so we can get the gunpowder
in without him knowing." The merchant whispered.

"That's great, he's going to be leaving to Thavin in a day," Garrett
whispered impetuously.

"Good lad, then meet us on Thornwood street in a day's time from now, and
we'll reward ye," Toogle smiled, "Well, we must be off, business to conduct
and all."

"Right, see you later Toogle!" Garrett yelled over the crowd of tipsy men.

"I don't like this Garrett," Palin remarked.

"What isn't there to like, if we help these guys we're helping ourselves and
all of the citizens of Neverwinter, but letting them into the new age of...
what did he call it?"

"Gunpowder..." Palin answered.

"Age of Gunpowder, besides, there's nothing to worry about."

*********************************

Thornwood street was located on the bad part of town. The lanterns on the
house's were old and most of them weren't even on. The roads were cracked
and there was water from the previous rain that hadn't been carried away by
Neverwinter's sewer system. The cold air was enough to make anyone shiver,
but the scenery just added to the morbid look of the street.

"Is he here yet?" Palin shivered.

"He said he would," Garrett replied apprehensively, "Oh wait, here comes
someone."

"Or something," Palin added blandly.

"Shut up, it's him. Hail Toogle over here," Garrett waved his arms over his
head ecstatically.

Toogle and all three of his men were carrying barrels of what Garrett guessed
to be gunpowder. Toogle put his finger over his lips and motioned for the
two to follow him. Garrett and Palin filed in behind him obediently and
exchanged worried looks.

"Psst... Toogle? Where are we going?" Garrett questioned.

"Quiet, just follow me," he replied sharply.

It seemed as if they were walking for an eternity when Toogle finally went in
to an abandoned warehouse.

The warehouse was indeed old, there was dust everywhere, and the glowing eyes
of Glit Rats. Garrett shivered, and sneezed from the dust getting in his
nose. Palin did the same, kicking up dust everywhere and causing one of
Toogle's men to sneeze also. Toogle gave them and impatient look. Garrett
and Palin covered their noses with the ends of their robes.

Toogle finally said, "Okay boys, this is what we needed you for," he pried
open one of the barrels, "we have got a problem with the gunpowder, mainly
that it is heavily diluted with sand so we could get it by the guards."

"Palin and I can fix that," Garrett said smiling at Palin.

"Good!", Toogle looked relieved, "We weren't sure you two were up to it."

"Up to it? Why we're perfect for it," Garrett said.

"Well, that's enough talk, get to it," Toogle spoke hurriedly.

"Right," Garrett said, "Palin, do you remember that whirlwind spell?".

"Sure do. Why?" he asked fearfully.

"Watch," Garrett raised his arms and moved his fingers into intricate
patterns and muttered the words to some spell. He pulled out an amulet from
the folds of his robes and kissed it and spoke the final word in his
incantation. The air around him seemed to dance fiercely until they broke
into a small whirlwind, he commanded it toward the open barrel, the whirlwind
picked up the powder and the sand and started separating them!

"By Mask!" Toogle cried out, "Good work lad!"

Beads of sweat ran down Garrett's face. After about a minute or two he was
done.

"That's all I can do, I'm too tired to go on," Garrett collapsed on the
ground.

"That's plenty lad, we should be able to sell this off for enough for all of
us to go to Evermeet and be rich old men!" Toogle grinned at all of his men,
"Now for your reward," he turned around and picked up some of the powder, and
put it into and arquebus. He aimed it directly at Garrett's head.

"Garrett watch out!" Palin cried and leapt toward him.

The bullet missed by a hair, two of the other men ran toward the barrel and
loaded there guns in the same fashion as Toogle did.

"Run!" Palin yelled.

They ran out of the warehouse and ran down the street.

"I can't..." Garrett said half dead.

"Come on, if we stop were dead for sure," Palin urged him on.

The continued to run down the street when a bullet whizzed by their heads and
hit a house nearby.

"They're catching us," Palin shrieked.

Garrett's legs couldn't take anymore and he tripped on the cobblestones and
broke his leg, "Sorry, Palin I just can't take anymore. Go on without me."

"No, we've got to hide," Palin pulled Garrett into what seemed to be and
empty story.

"They've went in there," Palin heard Toogle bark.

The shadows in the old store only served to add to feeling of insecurity.
Off in the front of the store he heard Toogle and his men searching. He
heard one of the men come closer to the spot where he and Garrett were
hiding. His heart raced and his lungs gasped for air. Out of the silence
came a loud and booming voice, "Toogle!! You again, trying to sneak
gunpowder into Neverwinter."

"Master!" Palin cried out, help us.

"Palin? Hmm... so you've kidnapped one of my apprentice's too? Get out of
here before I turn you into a newt."

"Too late Rylard, we've got the gunpowder now," three shot's rang out of the
darkness.

"You fool, do you think that you can hurt me?" Rylard spoke a few words and
Palin heard three popping sounds, "There, now that they're handled, you can
go home young apprentice."

Palin heard his master's robes swish as he walked out the door, "Garrett, I
know now why the master did not want gunpowder in Neverwinter, he was afraid
of men like that using it's power abusively."

"Right, now let's go home, and let's not tell him about this little lark
okay?" Garrett replied wincing in pain.

Palin helped Garrett to his feet, and they walked out the door. Palin turned
around and looked back at the store for a last time, he could've sworn that
he saw a newt at the front of the building crawling it's way out of town..

           The EndThe Book
(submitted by: Melliandra)

Melliandra awoke and found that she had fallen asleep in the chair by the
window again. Papers and books lay on the floor all around the chair and the
table beside it was overflowing with parchments and scrolls. Bottles of ink
and several quills were perched precariously on the windowsill. Melliandra
looked around the room and saw that every available surface; the shelves, the
dresser, and even the bed, was being occupied with some form of her work.
She stood up and a large book and several sheets of parchment slid to the
floor. Sighing heavily, she bent down and picked them up and set them on the
chair. "This is not working," she said aloud. "I need someplace where I can
do my work without cluttering up our living quarters," she thought to
herself.

Seeing as how she was already dressed, Melliandra left the room that she and
Kurzon shared. Castle Crimson was a massive construction and she knew that
somewhere within the stone walls there was an unoccupied space where she
could establish an office and a small laboratory. As she walked down the
corridor, she wondered where she could start with such a large area to cover.
She headed in the opposite direction of the front entrance and the knights'
quarters, past the dining hall and the offices of the lords. She took a
quick peek inside Kurzon's office, but he was not there. Thinking he was
probably outside briefing some of the new squires, Melli followed the
corridor until she came to an intersection.

To the left, she knew, was the way to the kitchens. She could hear the
sounds of pots and pans being rattled around and the cook's bellowing voice
as he yelled at one of his assistants. The warm, yeasty smell of fresh-baked
bread filled her with a sense of home and lightened her spirits. To the
right of where she stood, the hall was not as wide, and was much darker. She
had never been in this part of the castle, so she thought that this was as
good a place as any to begin her search.

Melliandra walked down the dimly lit hall until it opened up into a circular
room. A spiral stairway wound itself around the rock walls and she knew that
she was at the base of one of the towers. Her hand lightly followed the rail
and she began the upward climb. The higher up she went, the more cobwebs she
noticed, and she began to get the feeling that this section of the tower was
rarely used. Her legs began to ache from the long climb, and she started
wishing she had eaten breakfast before she had started this expedition.

When she thought she could not climb another step, Melliandra reached the
very top of the tower. Judging from the direction she had come, she was in
the westernmost tower of Castle Crimson. There was a door standing slightly
ajar directly across the landing and she walked towards it after she had
caught her breath. Melli wanted to make sure she did not barge into
someone's room uninvited, so she stopped at the door and knocked. When she
heard no answer, she pulled the door open and quietly stepped into the room.

Melliandra smiled as she stood in the entranceway. From the looks of things,
no one had been in this room in a very long time. The room was circular, and
several windows allowed the sun to shine in, no matter what time of day it
was. An entire section of the wall was made up of bookshelves, and though
they were heavily coated with dust and cobwebs, the shelves were empty of any
books or items. Melliandra walked farther into the room and stepped on a
large rug which covered the floor in the center. A long, rectangular table
and several chairs were arranged in front of the largest window and there was
a oak desk and chair at the far end of the bookcase. She thought that it was
perfect and with some cleaning up, it would serve the purpose of both office
and laboratory.

Eager to begin work on her newly found sanctuary, she hurried down the stairs
as fast as she could go. When she reached the bottom, she followed the
hallway back to the main corridor and headed towards Omar's office. She
found the door open and she looked in the doorway to see if the guildmaster
was in. Her footsteps stopping outside his door caused Omar to look up and
see Melliandra looking into his office. "Ho there, Melli... did you need to
see me?" "Only for a moment, milord," she said as she stepped into Omar's
office. He set down the quill he had been using and indicated a chair across
from his. "Have a seat, Melli, and tell me what it is you wish to speak to
me about." Melliandra walked over to his desk, but remained standing. "This
will really only take a minute, milord..... I was wondering if I may use the
empty room at the top of the westernmost tower. I am badly in need of a
workspace.... an office and a laboratory, and all outward appearances
indicate the room is not being used for any purpose... not even storage."
Omar considered the enchantress' request a moment. "Tis a bit out of the
way, isn't it, Melli?"

"I prefer it that way, milord," she answered him.

"Then, by all means, it's yours. I'll arrange for a locksmith to put a new
lock on the door. I know there was a key at one time, but I'm certain it has
fallen into the cracks somewhere." Melliandra smiled with delight. "Thank
you, milord." Omar nodded to her and she turned and left the office, anxious
to get everything in order.

It took several days to get the office and laboratory set up. The dusting
and removal of the cobwebs had been the easiest. Melli had pushed the few
pieces of furniture onto the landing outside the door and opened all of the
windows. Then, she stood in the middle of the large carpet and created a
magical windstorm. In no time at all, the dust and debris had flown out the
windows and she began polishing the woodwork until it gleamed. Blank and
DrgnD had the misfortune of running into Melli when she was ready to move all
of her things into the tower, but they obliged her request and helped. Once
she had everything in the room, she began putting her books on the shelves.
She finished with the side of the room that would be the laboratory by
arranging her scrolls and spell notes on the long table, and unpacking the
large trunk which contained her components and equipment.

It was after midnight when Melliandra finally finished. Dead tired, she sat
down in a large, cushioned chair that she had moved from her quarters, and
looked around the room. The woodwork glowed in the light of the oil lamps
burning on the table and on the desk and everything was in its place. The
carpet, after it had been thoroughly cleaned, was a deep shade of blue with a
border of green ivy leaves with curling tendrils of vine. Breathing a sigh
of satisfaction, Melliandra leaned back into the cushions and fell into a
deep sleep.

Melliandra woke up a few hours later and found herself in total darkness. At
first she thought that the lamps had run out of oil, but she had just filled
them that evening and replaced the wicks. She got up out of the chair and
started across the room towards the table. Lightning flashed outside the
window and Melliandra jumped at the sudden flash. Once she reached the table,
she fumbled around and found the lamp. Lightning lit up the room once again
and in that moment she could see that the lamp was nearly full and the wick
was in place.

It suddenly occurred to Melli that something was not quite right about the
flashes of lightning. For the bolts to strike so bright and so close.......
there was no thunder. Melliandra walked around the end of the table and
stood in front of the window. She looked out into the night and saw a sky
filled with stars, instead of the normal signs of an oncoming storm. She
reached up and released the latch on the window and pushed it open. A
chilling breeze blew in and it carried the scent of the approaching autumn.
It reminded her of walking through the forest after the leaves had
transformed into their fiery shades. Melliandra looked down at the empty
courtyard below. The only movement she saw was a sentry making his rounds,
the coals in his pipe shining bright orange as he puffed.

Melliandra looked out the window a few minutes more and then reached out to
grab the latch. A brilliant flash streaked through the opening and
Melliandra shrieked as it rushed past her and into the room. Momentarily
blinded by the brilliance, Melliandra stood by the window, blinking her eyes,
only to add spots to her vision. She felt very, very cold and more than a
little concerned about what had caused the flash. Soon her eyes adjusted
once again and she peered across the room, squinting to get a better look.
Everything looked exactly the same as it had before. Melli shivered and
turned back to the window and pulled it closed. As she faced the glass
panes, she saw the reflection of the oil lamp as it was suddenly lit.
Melliandra whirled around and saw that both lamps had been lit by an unseen
hand and beside the oil lamp on the table closest to her was a book she was
sure had not been there before.

Melli walked around the table once more and stopped where the book rested on
the tabletop. It was definitely not one of her tomes. The book was of the
quality found in the libraries of kings and master wizards. It was bound in
fine burgundy leather, with reinforcements of brass edging along the spine
and cover. There were no words printed on the outside to indicate the author
or title. The only ornamentation was a tiny bit of gold leaf hammered into
the shape of a sword embedded in the spine of the book. It was the finest
book Melli had ever laid eyes on. She looked behind her, feeling as if
someone was watching her, but she saw nothing.

Melliandra sat down in a chair at the table and stared at the large, thickly
bound book in front of her. Its mysterious appearance puzzled her and she
wondered how it had come to be in the westernmost tower of Castle Crimson
sitting on a table in her office. The longer she stared at it, the more
certain she was that something definitely was not right about its presence.
Tentatively, she placed her hand on the cover and touched the fine leather,
the brass cold to the touch...... and something else. Melliandra jerked her
hand back as if she had touched a burning torch. Quickly, she stood up and
stepped back away from the table, her eyes never leaving the book. Melli
rubbed the hand she had placed on the cover and shuddered. It was as if....
as if the book were alive.... she could feel it as surely as she felt her own
blood coursing through her veins. She looked at the book laying on the table
and felt drawn to it once again.

Before Melliandra was compelled to touch the book once again, she blew out
the oil lamp and then walked over to her desk and picked up the one lamp that
remained burning. She glanced over at the table again, thinking the book
might have disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared, but the deep red of
its cover continued to beckon her. Melli turned away and didn't look back
until she was out of the room. She pulled the door shut and locked it with
the key the locksmith had left with her. Holding the light in front of her,
she descended the darkened stairwell, wondering what she was going to do
about the book. She would tell no one of its appearance. Not until she had
some answers herself.... or until she found the courage to look within the
binding.

With the turning of a key, the light of an oil lamp glowed once again, in a
room at the top of the westernmost tower of Castle Crimson.

Melliandra stopped in front of the door to her quarters and saw a light
shining beneath the door. Kurzon had probably waited up for her, but just in
case he was asleep, she opened the door very quietly and stepped into the
room. Her husband was standing, fully dressed, directly in front of her.
Startled at his nearness upon coming through the door, Melli almost dropped
the lamp she was carrying. She looked up at him and saw the scowl written
across his face. Very calmly, but with an underlying tone of anger, he
asked, "Melliandra..... where in the name..... where have you been 'til this
hour?"

Melli had no idea he would be so upset with her, and before she answered him
she walked around and placed the lamp on the table beside the bed. She could
feel his eyes on her back and her heart pounded hard within her chest. She
turned around to face him and said, "I was in my office, Kurzon. I finished
getting everything in order and then I sat down for just a moment and dozed
off." Melli put all thoughts of the strange book to the back of her mind for
she was not going to tell him of it just yet.

"Tell me, my wife... do you have plans of living up in that tower? Surely
you favor the company of your books over your husband, for I have barely seen
you at all these past couple of days."

Melliandra could feel her own anger building, and her eyes flared as she
answered him. "You know very well that is not true. I told you when I
started that it would take some time to get everything ready and in order. I
have had to do most of it myself, what with everything going on within these
walls." Melliandra turned on her heel and walked away from him and went to
sit on the far side of the bed. Her back to him she said, "I can't believe
you would be angered by this.... you knew how much this meant to me." For
several minutes, a long silence crept into the room and Melli felt as if she
would choke it was so stifling.

As Melli sat waiting for Kurzon to speak, her mind was pulled back to the
book which sat unopened in her chambers. Such a fine volume could not be so
dangerous.... or could it? She remembered its touch on her hand and she
unconciously clenched her right hand. It had felt as if it were alive,
and....... "MELLI!" Kurzon roared behind her. Melliandra jumped up off of
the bed, her eyes wide, and she just stared at her husband who was now
standing in front of her. "You're keeping something from me...... what are
you hiding from me, Melliandra?"

Kurzon hardly ever called her by her full name, and for some reason, this
struck fire into Melli and she could feel herself losing control of her
emotions. "Just what is it you are insinuating..... that I am lying to you?!"
she said through gritted teeth. Kurzon looked at his wife and knew that she
was in a state of outrage, but something about the way she had been sitting
in a daze, not even hearing a word he had said to her bothered him. He could
not answer her.... he just turned and walked to the chair by the window and
stared out into the pre-dawn sky. When he turned and walked away from her,
Melli's eyes filled with tears of rage and she ran from the room, the sound
of the door slamming echoing from one end of the corridor to the other.

Melliandra ran through the darkened halls and stopped when she came to the
stairs leading up to the chamber in the tower. She stared up into the
darkness, her chest heaving from exertion and emotion. She began to think
that the book was the reason behind the outburst between Kurzon and her.....
it wanted her to read its pages and feel the pulse of its life once more.
Very slowly, Melliandra began to climb the stairs.

As she neared the top, she looked ahead of her and saw that the door to her
chambers was standing open as if in invitation to her. She stopped on the
landing and could see the oil lamp burning on the table and the shape of the
book laying beside it. She was sweating both from fear and exertion and her
cheeks burned. Her throat was parched and she could not swallow. Finally,
she took the last steps and entered the room, and did not stop until she
stood in front of the book. Her breathing quickened as she heard the door
close and the tumbling of the lock as it clicked into place. She looked
towards the window and saw the sun peeking its amber rays over the horizon.

Melliandra looked down at the book in front of her and placed both of her
hands down on the table to either side of it. She stood looking at it until
a ray of sun came through the window and traced a golden path across the
cover. The light of the dawn drew out her courage and Melliandra lifted her
right hand and placed it on the book.

The brass trim was cold as it was before, but the leather was as warm as
human flesh and it pulsed beneath her hand as if it harbored a beating heart
within its bindings. Melliandra did not pull her hand away this time,
instead she let it rest where it was and closed her eyes..... concentrating
on the pulse..... a pulse which beat in exact time with her own. She held
her breath and clutched the table with her left hand until her knuckles
turned white and in one fluid motion, she opened the cover.

A whisper of breath caressed her face and she opened her eyes. The first
page was fine, ivory parchment and it was completely blank....... void of any
writing. Melliandra released the breath she was holding, and at the same
time, the top of the page began to darken as if an invisible hand were
writing in front of her. She watched, her heart in her throat, as the
letters took shape before her very eyes......

M.... e.... l.... l.... i.... a.... n..... d.... r..... a...........

i....t..... i.....s t......i.....m....e..... f.....o.....r
a....l....l g....o....o.....d
t....a....l....e....s t....o c....o....m.....e t.....o
a....n e.....n......d.......

She backed away from the table, terrified, wishing she had never opened it.

The feeling of dread escalated as Melliandra watched as the page was lifted
up and turned. She had to know what was on the next page and she stepped
back towards the table once again.

Melliandra watched as the invisible author began to sketch a drawing on the
blank page. The colors and shades were drawn so quickly, it appeared the
picture was moving. When the illustration was complete, Melliandra covered
her mouth with her hand to keep from crying out. On the page was a picture
of her parents, her mother cradling a babe. It was her, Melli knew, and her
eyes grew wide as a line of writing was burned into the bottom of the
page.....

O..n..c..e u...p...o...n a... t... i.... m.. e....... <the page turns
once again>. In seconds another drawing appeared, and sadness knifed deep
into Melli's heart as she saw herself as a very young girl sitting on the
bank of the river fishing with her father. Tears filled her eyes as she
recollected those wonderful afternoons so many years ago. She choked back a
sob as the phrase imprinted itself beneath the image.....

P...i...t...y, s...u...c...h a... p...i...t...y. <a turn of the page>
The book was playing scenes of her life and the next picture that appeared
almost dropped Melli to her knees. There, as vivid as if it were only
yesterday, was her mother and her teacher, Kara, on the fateful day she had
left the Valley of the Silver Princess. Melliandra had never forgotten the
stricken look on her mother's face as Kara had pulled her towards the
stairway. The lettering that appeared at the bottom of this page was blood
red.....

W...e...e...p n...o m...o...r...e m...i...l...a...d...y...... <and yet
another page turns>....

Melliandra screamed at the top of her lungs, "Why are you doing this to
me?!?!" Melli lunged for the book, intent on ripping its pages to shreds,
but when her fingers were mere inches away, red hot fire burned into her
hands and she jerked them away, clutching her fingers in agony.

As her hands burned, a thought came to her, and she looked back at the book.
Kurzon was depicted on the page, sitting beside her in the gardens. Melli
turned from the book and looked at the pictures she had hung on the wall
around her desk. Blank had drawn many likenesses of her and Kurzon, several
of them before their wedding. Melliandra stared sadly at the wall. Several
of the pictures were only blank parchment now.... as if they had never
existed. The book thought to erase her.... that was what it meant by "Now is
the time for all good tales to come to an end."

Melliandra began to think of what she could do to stop the book from
finishing its tale. It was going so quickly she knew she did not have much
time. "A spell," she thought, "focused just so might destroy it." Melli
drew on the magics she possessed and condensed a spell of destruction so it
would fall entirely on the book. Her lips moved as she silently mouthed the
words of incantation and her hands traced the runes in the air. A blue
stream of energy flew from her fingertips and encircled the book in a
fluorescent glow. A small gasp of triumph came from her throat, but was
silenced almost instantly as the book drew the power of the spell within its
pages and the glow disappeared.

Melliandra ran to the door of the room and tried to unlock it, but there was
no longer a keyhole in which to place the key. She pounded on the hard
wooden surface with her fists, but she knew she was too far away for anyone
to hear her. She turned to go back across the room towards the windows, and
then she stopped and watched as her wedding picture began to move.

Blank had captured the entire wedding party in the scene, and Melli watched
in horror as people began disappearing one by one. 'Cesse and 'Sta1n faded
first, then Blank and Omar. Kurzon and she were the only two people left.
Melli glanced quickly over to the book and saw the inscription written in
bold letters.... S...A...Y G...O...O...D...B...Y...E...... When Melli
looked back at the picture on the wall, it was void of any people. The world
swam in and out of focus in front of her and the room began to spin.
Melliandra gasped for air, and though her lungs worked, she could not capture
a single breath. Before she fell to her knees, she saw one last picture in
the wicked tome....... a cradle. For a moment she thought she heard the
small cry of an infant. Melliandra dug her fingers into the thick rug, and
she wished she could cry out, but she had no breath... only tears.... and
memories...... which slowly suffocated her.

Melliandra sat bolt upright in bed, arms flailing and gasping for breath.
Kurzon was awake in an instant and knew his wife was in the throes of another
nightmare. He grabbed her around the waist and held her still as he talked
to her in a soothing voice. "Melli... it's all right, Love. It was only a
dream." She struggled briefly, her eyes wild with fright, but when she heard
his voice speaking to her she stopped and sat very, very still. Kurzon could
feel her trembling and he tightened his arms around her to ensure that he was
right beside her. In a very soft voice, she whispered, "A dream.... only a
dream."

1) Don't run through the streets of crowded areas of NW. If you walk at
a slower pace your computer will have time to display fights ahead of you so
that you aren't sucked into fights where your help might not be appreciated.

2) Try not to enter an area your character is obviously not prepared
for. Entering fights you can't win and calling for help will get you
experience, however, it is offset by the people you will upset if they see
this behavior constantly repeated.(submitted by: Jaliycia)

It is a Posting Event open to all who roam the Realms...the intro and rules
follow...

The Story's Prelude:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     The Yule logs crackled in the Playroom's fireplace.  Nustled under lacey
comforters filled with feathers in her canopy bed of white and pink, lay a
little girl with tiny ringlet curls of gold  surrounding her face.  Her
petite lips are curled into a rosebud smile.  To any who look on, she appears
as delicate as a china doll.  In truth, she is the Princess Jaliycia,
daughter of the Kithain Queen, Ilysianna.  She is sleeping through the
night...waiting for the magic of Yuletide to occur.
      The childling has spent the last few weeks researching any of the Yule
traditions she could find.  In the corner of the Playroom's outer Library,
there is an evergreen tree decorated with ribbons and tiny fearie fire
lights.  Near the door to the bedchamber, there is a wooden shoe.  A row of
candles in a special candlabra are lit in the window.  By the fireplace,
rests a glass of milk, a tray of cookies, and a bunch of carrots.  A stocking
hangs within reach of the treats.  A sprig of mistletoe hangs over her toy
castle.  Hollyberries and pine scent fills the air.  Her magic lute plays
traditional melodies as the princess sleeps with a large soldier nutcracker
tucked under her arm in a gentle embrace.  Her dreams are filled with colored
wrapping, bows, tiny bells and sugarplums.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since all of the adults of Neverwinter know that there is no such thing
as Santa Claus (at least that is what is said), is there anyone who can help
preserve the childling's 'belief in Yuletide magic'? Jaliycia has tried to
be the best little girl she can be, and the most proper princess she knows.
Is there anyone that can come to the rescue of the Princess' and her wonder
at the mysteries of of tradition?

The challenge is to come up with a special gift for the Princess. You
may write up the gift's description, a history of the item's origin, and/or
how you get it to the childling's rooms, etc. This contest is open to all!
The five best entries will be selected and receive a prize from the
childling's vaults or person. The post that pleases the princess most of all
will be awarded one of the Queen's most treasured possessions...an Necklace
of Ice Storms...as her thanks for preserving the childling's belief in magic.

There may be other prizes, depending on originality, etc. and prize
availability. Put on your thinking caps, dig into your oldest toy chests,
look into your childhood dreams; Help the Princess retain her wonder on this
most magic of nights...the contest will run until the end of Christmas Eve
(Midnight PST, 3am EST, Dec. 25).

       Good Luck...Happy Holidays to all!!!

What does make Neverwinter Nights so appealing? You can always buy the game
on the open market and play it at home at your leisure. Gone would be the
troubles of logging on with your Internet server and the endless crowds
waiting at the gates to get in. Also there are plenty of different role
playing game products on the market; why just play Neverwinter over and over
when you've been to all the locations already? The answer is simple,
Neverwinter offers what many gamers have never experienced before and that's
the chance to interact with other characters in a totally unpredictable
fashion. Instead of dealing with artificial intelligence, players of
Neverwinter face the unpredictability of live interchange. A way to fully
enjoy this medium is to develop a character's history and personality traits
before you roll his attributes up. Build on this creation throughout your
adventures and develop a complex character that doesn't necessarily have to
define your personal feelings and ideas. Give him or her a background, a
motivating goal to live by and do your best to play by these self imposed
rules. You'll find your actions more than your name will define your place
among the realms. The more challenging the better.

My character SSB CyLntKt not only leads to plenty of questions as to the
meaning of his name but proves to be quite challenging for me to play.
Dissecting the name you get SSB(guild) Silent Knight. The character I
developed was built on a vow this young man made to his late father. Cy had
promised to learn the ways of the Paladin and remain silent and attentive to
wiser adventurers until he reached the highest level a Paladin could obtain.
That's over 1,000,000 experience points of silence. I'm not naturally
reserved or quiet so this proved to be a huge undertaking. Getting around
the realms is built on co-dependency of your fellow traveler and the respect
to help others when requested. It goes without saying you also need to be
able to ask for help when your in a bind. How was my character going to fill
these requirements and still keep the vow to his father? Well as I found out
you can say quite a bit without really violating a self imposed code of
silence. Even though technically I never speak out loud, many actions that
my character performs may be acted out and I usually describe his actions
within these symbols < >. For instance <offers help to Sir Garth>, can
easily be used to replace the more common command "NH?". Responding to a
question posed to my Paladin such as "NH?" can be answered easily by <motions
for DoomMast1 to join battle>. More typing is required but overall your
fellow adventurers come to admire your skill at role playing your character.
Pointing, drawing in the dirt, scribbling on walls, sending arrows with
messages, and even carrier pigeons are just some of the methods I've used to
overcome the constraints of a speechless character.

This is just one in a multitude of possibilities you can plan for your
fearless traveler. Explore your imagination and develop your own set of
guidelines for your character to follow and I'm sure you'll see how much more
enjoyable an already great game can become. Another hint to help you along
the way would be to join a guild if your character is going to be in need of
help such as mine was. A guild can be a ready set of friends you can rely on
when times are tough and the XP is scarce by yourself. Eventually most of my
guild caught on to what I was doing and it was more rewarding to let them
figure it out for themselves without declaring to all of them just what my
character was all about. Be innovative your only constrained by your own
imagination.
