Prelude to a Kiss
(submitted by: V Bastion)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was attempting to make its rise above the horizon to the
East when they were finished. Gaylar had read all of the information, but
still didn't seem to believe that these were really Vampires that his Master
was talking to. "How can this be? I would think that we would have heard of
these creatures before now."
"As I had said before, I believed the same, but I have been privy
to several actions which seems to prove their existence. Some of this
information we have before us is true, most of it is false, but if you know
who tells a lie you may know why the lie exists. I believe that the
"Masquerade" of these Clans is responsible for most of these lies. They help
to spread all these lies so that nobody can see through them all. Where
better to hide a valued piece, than in the open where it shouldn't be. That
is how we have done it in the past. Remember that painting by the Dark-Elf
we bought for the collector in WaterDeep? Rumors flew hot and heavy around
the city about where we would hide it. Several break-ins and attempts were
made on the strongholds of those places we told of. The 2 forgeries we had
made both were stolen, but the real prize remained untouched in the Great
Hall of this very house. People are most likely to believe lies which they
want to believe. The thieves which got to our fakes, they wanted to believe
we would hide it away, so were fooled."
Nodding his head, Gaylar remembered the laughs that he and his
Master had had over that bit of misinformation. "So you think that these
"Vampires" are not all that this information says?"
"Not exactly, I think that there is SOME truth to this, but I feel
that the worst of these stories are nothing more than that. Just stories to
scare the population and keep them from hunting down and destroying them."
Picking out one of his notes, he hands it to Gaylar. "This one for instance,
It is a long winded note from one of the members of the Knights of the Flame,
if you read it completely all it states that all the Vampires are Evil. I
have read the words of the Lady Nitengale, as have you. Can you really tell
me that you feel she is totally evil?" Gaylar responded by shaking his
head, "No, this one seems to have a love for the finer things in life as do
you." "Exactly, this is why I have been approached by her to join with them.
She wishes to add my knowledge and talents to her "family". A noble cause if
ever I saw one, however unworthy I feel of the honor."
"What will happen to you after you have been "Embraced" by this one
milord?"
"That is where my information stops, I can't find any information
about what comes after except that madness is a possibility, as well as
death. This is no game I play, this is as serious as any of the battles we
fought in during our youth. If I can, I will continue to let you know of
these matters. I just am not sure when or how often I will be able to
contact you."
"Master, again I offer my services to you in this. I feel that I
should go with you to this place. One such as you must have one you can
trust beside you at all times, and who better than me to be that one." Bass
remembered the occasions when Gaylar had saved his life, as well as the times
he had done the same for Gaylar. Master and Slave was the relationship that
they projected to the outside world, however they were as close as any two
people could be. Side by side in childhood, they fought, learned, and
loved. The possibility that he could bring Gaylar with him was one which had
not really occurred to Bass, he thought he would have to say good-by to this
dear friend when he joined the Camarilla. "I will ask the Lady when I can,
I will bring you with me if it is possible, it may not be for a time. Will
you continue to hold this estate as I would have?"
"Yes, I will, all will be as you desire"
"Thank you my friend, I will be contacting the Lady Nitengale this
eve to tell her of my decision. I will have to abide by her decision as to
when and where the "Embrace" will take place, so after she receives my
answer, I know not how much time I will have here. Assume that I will leave
tonight after the sun sets." Bass extends a hand to his friend.
Holding back a tear, Gaylar forgoes the hand to embrace his
Master in a hug. "I hope the time before our reunion will not be a long
one." "As do I ..." Bass whispers.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Written in a large flowing script....
Milady Nitengale,
I have thought long and hard about your offer to take me
under your wing as one of you children. I wish to express my gratitude for
your offer and to tell you that although I do not feel myself worthy of the
title of Master of the Pen at this time, I would be happy to be Embraced by
you.
My abilities are yours for the rest of time immemorial, I wish
nothing more than to be able to bring with me my most trusted servant and
confidant. He knows of you and your House, he, I feel, can be trusted to
not give away the Masquerade even if force is used. You see, we have been
together since we were children, he was taken from the slums of a city far to
the East. We have been together ever since. We fought together as young
men, as was our wont. It was during this time that he was taken prisoner
once and tortured to get information. Instead of telling anything, he
actually attempted to bite off his own tongue. The only way we can
communicate is his abilities at what he calls, "Head talking" Others I have
known call it ESP. For this reason I feel that he is trustworthy and should
not be harmed if you do not allow me to bring him in. I do not think that
he wishes to become a Vampire at this time, how else could he be brought into
our circle without actually "Embracing" him. I await your answer to this.
I am ready for the "Becoming". I await your pleasure to tell me
when and where to meet for this....
Yours forever in
life, and death,
Sebastion

After signing the letter and drying it, a shadow enters the chamber.
It is the same dark shape which took his last missive to the Lady. Patiently
he waits for the letter to be folded, and for Bass to press his signet into
the hot wax which he dripped on it to seal the letter. As soon as it was
done, the tall shadowy figure takes the letter and readies himself to
disappear into the night....
"Hold, there is something to be delivered along with that letter."
Returning to his desk, Bass picks up one of the flowers he has
there. "Please be so kind as to give this to the Lady as well." Taking the
flower from Bass' hand, the tall ghoul essays a slight smile, then turns and
disappears...
Sitting as his desk, Bass picks up the rest of the bouquet he has
there and breaths in the sweet, heady aroma of 11 perfect Black Roses....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bass walked to the large bay window and stretched. He looked out
over the city again. This morning he had sent his letter to the Lady, and he
expected to hear from her this very evening. He had been here since the
letter was taken, expecting that this would be the last time he would be able
to witness the daylight. He tried to burn the images into his mind, so that
it could last him an eternity. He was not sure if he would miss the
daylight, but his writing would indeed suffer if he could not project the
true feelings into it. Now the sunset was what he was witnessing, the reds,
blues, and violets which blanketed the land. Within a few moments, it was
over and the sun had set behind the distant mountains. The first shadows
of night began to creep into the city as they have done for all time,
heedless of the fear brought with itself to many of the inhabitants of this
city. Thinking he would see plenty of night from now on, Bass turns from the
window towards his desk. With a gasp, he noticed a letter on it with
Nitengale's flowing script on the now familiar green envelope. He saw no one
enter, heard no motion, but it was, he suspected, just another of her powers
being shown to him at this time. Shrugging, he picked up the letter and
enjoyed once again the aroma of lavender which always was present on them.
Opening it he read:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Dearest Bass,
I could not have asked for a better awakening. My Ghoul woke me
before the sun had even set to give me your letter. I cannot remember a time
when I have been so excited. There is a problem with your request though.
Let me see if I can explain it to you.
Your servant may come with you, but there are conditions to this.
First of all, it is imperative that no mortal know of us. I know that you
trust him completely, but in order for him to come with you and see the
Kindred ways, he will have to be bound to you in more than friendship.
Vampires have servants, and they keep these servants happy and obedient by
giving them just a bit of blood. This starts the change in them, but without
being drained first, it will not be completed. Once mortals taste this
power, they will normally do anything for you in order for you to keep giving
them the blood. They can still go out into the sun and do your bidding, so
this makes them almost necessary if you wish to maintain a presence In a
city. Only so much can be done in the night. I will allow you to bring your
servant in as a Ghoul, however, I only welcome artists into my family, and
until he has proven to me that he is a true artist, I will not, nor will I
allow another, to "Embrace" him.
I know that you have many mortal affairs to wrap up, so I will give
you a few days to do so. Meet me in the Great Hall Tavern, this Friday eve.
I do look forward to having you as a Childe. I must also make
arrangements for you with the Master of your Household. I need to know which
of the arts you will have as your primary, the Writing or the Collecting?
Please let me know so I can inform the others.
Love throughout eternity,
Lady Nitengale

- Entry 12
(submitted by: V Strange1)
It had been quite some time since I ventured into town. Fitful days of
dreaming and long lonely nights of hunting are all I had to fill my time.
The orchid Baldor brought for me stood in its vase as a silent reminder of
his last visit, my love, and my torture.
As the first rays of the moon caressed my skin with its pale fingers, I
decided to go for a swim. Gliding noiselessly along the path from my haven
toward the water, I surveyed my surroundings. The feeling of being watched
hung on me like a cold chill, but noticing nothing amiss, I continued towards
the water's edge.
My clothes were soon discarded haphazardly to lie on the shore. The
water was warm and inviting as I made my way farther into its soothing
depths. The snapping of a twig drew my attention to the shore as a lone
figure emerged from the path. It was Baldor! As he stepped from the shadows
into the moonlight, his gaze locked with mine.
My breath caught in my throat as I became painfully aware of my attire
being strewn upon the sand. I ducked down in the water to escape his
appreciative glances. Then to my utter amazement, Baldor offed his own
clothes and waded in to join me. As he neared me, the soft light of the moon
illuminated his lopsided grin as desire smoldered in his eyes. I expected
him to kiss me, but instead he brushed aside the hair streaming over my
forehead and ran his fingers lightly along my cheek. I sighed, wondering if
he knew how disarming his tenderness was. He leaned forward and touched my
lips with his, not kissing, only savoring the gentle tickle of skin against
skin. He must have known what that was doing to me.
I couldn't stand it! I quickly dove into the water in a mad scramble to
put some distance between us and reign in my raging passion. Baldor was a
strong swimmer, though, and quickly caught me in his arms and pulled me back
to the surface.
He pulled me swiftly into his arms and pressed me close. I was
thrilled yet terrified to be in his arms. I barely managed to speak.
"Sometimes I get so frightened. I never expected anything like this..." My
words were cut short as he pressed his lips to mine. He tightened his
embrace, a muffled groan escaping from his throat as he moved to kiss my
brow, my cheeks, my neck....

Lost in honor's hallowed halls
He who did not belong
But responded to sacrificial calls
Despite each raw and shredded wrong
He could count them all and single
Each welt upon the flesh of his soul
With him they had refused to mingle
And left his dignity not entirely whole
And he found there was no reason
But a confused and blurred deception
Not some conspiracy of treason
In them he saw his own reflection
Transparent to his eyes
The distinction nonexistent
Their excuses all a faint disguise
Their apologies too insistent
In death does he find acceptance
In living do they feel shame
It's too late for you repentance
Too late to speak his name
You couldn't say it to his face
All his life he was the other
His memory you'll not disgrace
By now calling him your brother
So I lay a tear upon his grave
And I mourn a hero lost
For all a denied heart gave
Regardless of the cost

LSD's Story
(submitted by: L0rd LSD)
It was nearly morning when I took up writing this. We had stopped to
rest in the Hills, after battling the vicious Hippogriffs. Someone had
identified a dark mage at the edge of the battle, so we had a lookout posted
all through the night.
I remembered when Lord Nasher of NW had restricted his laws to the
patrolled sections of the realms, meaning that we were open to attack in the
hills. I glanced about, at my companions. Cesveril was asleep, he had
fought the last battle almost single-handedly. Lennon was asleep, but he
looked ready to slay the mightiest of dragons if need be. Ldy Dyson was
sitting up, staring out into the darkness. She had volunteered for lookout.
I found myself perched against a tree in front of the crackling fire, that
more than anything, protected us through the night.
Day break found us well rested, and ready for our trip to Triboar, and
its Dungeons. We continued on our way through the mazelike forest, and
arrived at the door to Triboar safe. Upon entering Triboar, we felt safer
noticing the number of travelers who have worn the path down to earth.
Hastily making our way to the inn was hardly a chore, the occasional beast in
Triboar mustn't have gotten up as early as we.
We rested at the inn, while we were served ice cold ale, and hot steak.
The fire warmed our feet, while we stayed up long into the night sharing
stories with fellow adventurers. There were tales of bloody death matches in
the arena, and courageous rescues from the ever-feared dracoliches.
Greeting the following dawn drunk, we headed north, and stumbled into
Displacer Beasts, and Ogres. Somehow, we managed to groggily defeat these
beasts, and ended up in the Dungeons.
Lennon, adorned with a long white beard from his age, told us of
travelers who spent their entire lives wandering the passages that had never
been fully explored. He pulled out a crude map however, and after defeating
hell hounds, we passed through a door concealed in the wall.
I had lost all sense of direction, even though I had sobered up. I saw
the remains of a warrior who hadn't been so lucky as I, and died unguided
though the catacombs.
Scarcely had we passed through an old door than were we attacked by
Clerics and Krakkens. This sections of the dungeon was apparently controlled
by Krakkens, and we were warned that we needed a Krakken with us to pass.
Ldy Dyson helped out, by showing us a way to the next door. Powerful
spells were cast, and we through open the door only to be greeted by a Giant
Worm! The horrible beast was pinkish in color, and looked like it could have
swallowed anyone. Still young, I jumped in front of Ldy Dyson, and drew my
Sword.
I sat for a moment, while Cesveril muttered the incantations to his
spells, and looked at my sword. It had been a gift from the late warrior
known as Ripeye, and it bore nicks and scratches from the many foes who had
gone down beneath it's blade.
Again, Cesveril was victorious, and we moved on to what would be the
final door. We could hear animalistic noises beyond it, and so we rested for
a while, and again prepared for battle.
Cesveril through open the door, and wielded his trident, only to be
greeted by 2 beholders.
I was frightened, to the point where I couldn't do anything but run
behind a wall, and hope I would survive. The sound of spells being cast
forced me to peer around the corner.
The sight I saw horrified me. One of the beholders was firing off
spells left and right, at Cesveril, while the other moved towards Dyson.
Cesveril looked in pain, but thrust his trident at the beast, and killed it.
Dyson wasn't so lucky. She swung her flail at the advancing beast, and
missed. Cesveril was able to get a swipe on it, but couldn't kill it. The
beholder turned towards Dyson, and began to make sounds only a beholder would
understand.
I suddenly found myself running towards the beast, sword drawn. I
yelled a cry of battle, and swung my sword at the evil beholder. A few
things happened at once...
Cesveril, who was going to take a swing, ducked my blow, and rolled near
an Umber Hulk. Ldy Dyson ran to my former hiding spot, and cast some
clerical healing spells on herself. I felt a great clang as my sword hit the
ground... having cut clear through the beast! I looked in amazement at its
body, and if the falling Umber Hulk hadn't woken me up from the Beholder's
dying gaze, I might have never left.
So, now, here I sit. Strider is over there with his girl, and Dyson is
watching me. I think I am going to marry her :). That will all come in time
though, I have many battles to fight, and a fate to find.
Until then,
LORD LSD

Six dwarves sat in the underground room, bathed in soft, flickering, orange
light from a low-burning hearth. The first, a young dwarf of 100, dressed in
thieves trappings. His jet-black hair cut as short as could be. Three
others were old, well over 500 each. Another was middle aged and handsome.
They were dressed similarly to the young lad, though their clothing showed
decades of wear and weathering. Finally, an old lass sat closest to the
fire. By the mannerisms of the rest, it was clear that she demanded only
gentlemanly behavior from the rest. It was also clear, the way the old
dwarves used coasters, and wiped their chins after eating that this was her
home.
"Yer play, Unc." Said old Griff Gemchaser. He placed a few gems on the
table as UncleAugst rolled the dice. Beside Griff sat the cropped-haired
lad, his son, young Griff Gemchaser. "Heh heh. Ye lose."
"Ye keep losin' like dat, 'n ye'll 'as ta git a real job!" Aunty jibed
at UncleAugst. The remaining dwarves erupted in laughter, while the oldest
of the group refilled his mug of whiskey.
The oldest dwarf's hands shook a bit as he poured, though none would
ever mention it to him. He picked up the dice and threw a couple of diamonds
on the table. With sighs and groans, the remaining dwarves anted up. No one
ever stayed out of the boss' bet. The ancient leader of the dwarven theives'
guild tossed the dice. He never lost either.
"Imagin' dat." Baldar Hammersmith said as the boss raked in his
winnings. No one ever accused anyone of cheating, especially the boss. In
fact, in meetings of this sort, among the cream of the crop of the thieves'
guild, cheating was the object of the game. Well, cheating and not getting
caught.
"So wot news of Nystramo, dere, Baldy?" The boss said with the wicked
smile that kept all the rest on their toes.
"Well'n, as farmer actin' chief..." This always spurred a few snickers
from the rest. "...Me kin sez 'e'll be jus' fine. D1 be tendin' ta 'im, so
'e's likee ta gits better e'en if'n it kills 'im."
The boss looked into the fire. "Shame 'bout dat gully lad."
Uncle tossed a gem into the pot. "Aye, a 'ero in death were all da kin
cou' allow 'im." Uncle looked up at an "ahem" from the boss. Obviously, he
had not caught the correct meaning of the ancient dwarf's statement.
"Tis a shame cuz 'is tearin is leavin' ta bury 'im. Makes it dat much
longer til we kin tries 'er as wun o' ar own."
"Oh, roight." said Uncle, forgetting that sympathy was not in the boss'
repetoire of emotions.
Aunty, having always found that trait of the boss' distasteful, changed
the subject. "Baldy, wot news of yer tearin? I 'ear tell ye be settin' a
date?"
Now the boss always knew everything that was going on. And if he
didn't, those assembled made sure that he did, for it wasn't wise to keep him
in the dark. So it was no surprise that everyone in the room fell silent,
and waited for him to say something at that moment after another "ahem."
"Me tinks Storm Moradinson mayhaps 'ave sumpin' ta say 'bout dat." The
boss said with an level, serious voice as he tossed a gem into the pot. He
stared intently at Baldar, waiting not only for his comment, but also for him
to toss the dice.
"Dat be done wit, boss." Baldar said, and tossed the dice.
"Me nae tink so." The boss' eyes followed the dice across the table.
Normally, he would smile when he saw the winning results, but he kept his
gaze on the dice and spoke in a most menacing tone. "I seen 'im back'and da
lass in da face like 'e owned 'er dis afternoon." You could hear a pin drop
as he paused. Aunty gasped. The fire crackled. The other dwarves' beards
rustled as they turned their heads to look at Baldar. "Catched 'er pretty
good too. If'n I were ye, I'd take 'im ta task on dat." With that, the boss
reached out and hauled in his winnings.
"Ye shore'n bout dat?" Baldar said, his voice betraying no emotion.
"Seen it wit me own eyes. Wou' I e'er lie ta ye, lad. If'n it were nae
business dat is?"
Baldar stood up. "Scuse me. Tank ye fer da 'ostpitality, Aunty." He
turned on his heal and left without another word.
After a long, silent pause, someone pounded on the door.
"Comes in!" bellowed Uncle. A young thief entered, out of breath from
rushing to deliver whatever news he had. He reported to young Griff
Gemchaser.
"Two gaurds 'as found a darklin' in da mount."
All glanced at eachother, then bolted upright and rushed towards the
door, making sure to thank Aunty on the way out. Uncle gave her a peck on
the cheek as he followed the rest out into the Mount.

Said, "You should go, you'll find your way"
Seems I'm lost round here instead.
Don't leave me lost! Please don't you leave me so lost!
Please, I'm so lost, I just can't find my way.
Now, It's getting late indeed.
And I shall be PVP'ed
Wish I'd maxxed before I came
Seems I'm lost round here instead.
Don't leave me lost! Please don't you leave me so lost!
Please, I'm so lost, I just can't find my way.
Forrests, monsters and my fear
Evil Mages must be near
Wish someone'd come to my aid

From the Mind of a Mad Drunk
(submitted by: Mad Drunk)
::eight months ago::
A slay spell extends from his finger tips and the last paladin drops
dead. The drunken GOD quickly finishes off the last monster, and exits the
fight. Stepping over the paladins dead frame, he begins his search for his
next victim. Running through the woods, scanning for any movement, his
search for prey shortly becomes in vain as he realizes the woods are
completely empty.
"Well, guess I might as well drink some suds", the drunk god mumbles to
himself.
Taking a seat next to a giant oak tree, Mad Drunk opens his bag of
holding in search for his treasured keg of stolen NWN ale. The drunken god,
taps the keg and drinks freely, sometimes almost chokin while chuggin the
alcohol down his throat. After a short while, he smash's the empty keg on
his forehead in disgust at the state of his buzz. Drunk starts rummaging
again through his bag, this time in search of KAAOS's finest whiskey.
Finally after 15 minutes of searching his bag, Mad comes to the conclusion
that he must have left it in his vault ;x
"DOH, stupid vaults!!!!", Mad yells at the top of his alcohol fill'd
lungs.
While debating on whether or not to raid another NWN shipment of
alcohol, Mad turns around and kicks the tree with all of his might(which
shook all the leaves off of the tree). Suddenly, he hears a female voice
behind him.
"Hail, fine knight", a woman says behind him.
By instinct Drunk whirls around in a blur of movement and 5 knives
impale the Kort chick in the ears, nose, and throat.
"Stupid goody chicks", he mumbles to himself as he pulls his knives
out of the ears, marveling at the spin of his throw to take her in the ears.
Finally pulling his daggers free of the corpse, he hears movement behind him
again. This time he decides to wait before killing and turns to face his
next victim( no need ta kill another female till He had a chance ta use his
KAAOS borne charms on her).
"You are very skilled with your weapons, evil one", says the most
beautiful woman that MD has ever seen.
"Er, heyas babe, wanna get lucky?", the Drunk says with a drunken
grin.
"Sure evil one, let me get my sisters", she says.
His ears perk up in evil delight at the word "sisters", but the
Drunken god's, KAAOS sense, tells em something isn't right with the
situation. "What are you about?", MD finally says to the lady.
"Well evil one, I am a wood nymph, and so are my sisters. We have an
insatiable desire to party with you!!"
"Heh, you must think i'm stupid or something, even I know that ya wood
nymphs use people up till they die. Can't do it baaabbby", slurs the drunken
GOD.
More and more of the wood nymphs begin to appear in a circle around
MD. Using his godlike hearing, he overhears one whispering to the next , "I
sense enough power in him to last all of us till next summers day." At this
he casually continues packin his bag, shaking his head at the disgust of the
ignorant wood nymphs.
"Next summers' day? I gots enough power in my big toe ta last 4 years
;p", drunk spits at the nymphs. "What makes ya think I even 'want' to spend
another minute with any of yas?"
"Okay fine, go ahead then KAAOS GOD, I guess we'll have to find
someone else to drink all this ale with", the head nymph explains to the
drunk.
"ALE? ALCOHOL? WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! LETS PARTY
BABY!!!!", DRUNK SHOUTS AS HE TACKLES THE FINELY BUILT NYMPHS TO THE GROUND.
::WITH THIS THE DRUNKEN GOD DISAPPEARED FROM THE REALMS FOR AWHILE, IN THE
COMPANY OF WOOD NYMPHS AND A WHOLE LOTTA BOOZE::
::today, 7 months and 32 days later::
Laying back checking out the score of deathly exhausted wood nymphs,
Mad Drunk calls for more booze and pleasure.
The head wood nymph sputters in a state of exhaustion, "Alas great evil
one, but you have outlasted us all. And we can provide for you no more".
A long forgotten memory sparks in his drunken mind. "We?", Drunk asks
in confusion.
"Yes great evil one.... we.....", the nymph begins to explain.
"WEE?", DRUNK STAMMERS IN REMEMBERANCE.
"We?", the nymph says ,confused with the Drunk and sensing his volitile

KAAOS!!Thief's Lament
(submitted by: Garthlik)

Now his days are growing cold, the thief grows slow with age. All his
memories unfold, as he thinks about all his friends that are lost. He
wonders how to count the cost. The nights are growing cold.
As he nears the Red Mage Inn, he can hardly wait any longer. He thinks
of the good times he and his friends had. The good times always seemed to
turn bad.
As he enters the Red Mage Inn and finds his favorite table in the rear,
the serving lass heads his way carrying a tray filled with spiced meats and
cold ale.
He looks up at her and says, "Why don't sing me songs you know will make
me smile and take me away for a little while."
As she moves away, she sings "Shadowslayer",
How could such beauty ever slide,
Like a snake, along my side,
Such a gentle touch, my soul cried,
Stare into my eyes, your soul to sell.
I am sleeping in your chilling grip,
The truth is that I like this trip,
But something here begins to slip,
Surrounded by death within this cell.
I watch you moving to and fro,
Calling in the masses as you go,
Their souls are lost, they know,
But they come, like the ringing of a bell.
But I am pacing within this cage,
And all I see is me with rage,
You dare to promise a brand new age,
Shadows in the background bid them farewell.
As she sings her songs and he drinks his ale, the rising sun shines
through the windows. A new day has begun as he thinks of the sacrifice and
wonders how he can ever pay the price.
The sun shines ever brighter as he makes his way to his bed, to sleep
away another day. Now that his days have grown cold, how can he pay the
price.(submitted by: D1amond 2)
