For the past few weeks this simple phrase, "To the Pirates!!!" has been
ringing in my ears. Rum after rum....after RUM! Loraque shows up every
night and orders one of Torath's special rums. Pouring it into a short
glass, I sprinkle a bit of powder into the drink and stir; I stir until the
liquid swirls with colors. I've become quite adept at it, since Loraque has
been coming to the tavern. Well this elf pirate gets to seat himself in the
Guild of Heroes now, may Tyr have mercy on Strahd's ears....

TO THE PIRATES!!!

Dear NW Abby:

I hate being a Medusa. Every time I eat, my snakes help themselves to a
'taste.' I always have a feeling that someone is watching over my shoulder.
My social life is dismal and my romantic life is non-existent. Just once, I
want to gaze lovingly into the eyes of my significant-other without him
turning into stone. Others tell me, "You know, your face is actually kind of
pretty. If only..." I've tried everything. I covered my snaky hair--it didn't
work. I tried opening my cloak to show that I was unarmed and meant no harm.
Men (and women) still ran screaming. And now people think I have a perverted
habit of 'flashing' when people approach. All I have to show for my efforts
is a garden full of statues with horrified looks on their faces.

Yesterday, a traveling potion salesman came by (I sell him snake oil to
supplement my income). He told me of a magic potion that would transform me
into a demi-human of my choice. Perhaps I should start my life over as a
Harpy or a Centaur. At least as a Harpy I could charm men and have a brief
encounter, however fleeting. Valentine's Day is coming up and I'd hate to
spend it alone again. What do you advise, NW Abby?

Every day is a bad hair day,
Matilda the Medusa

Dear Matilda,

Your situation is not as unique as you may think. Many a creature has come
to this column for advise and I think that I may have a solution to your
problem.

Since you do not wish to polymorph into another demi-human, might I suggest
that you take a blind man as a potential suitor? After all, if one meets the
gaze of a person of your persuasion, they'd get turned to stone. However, a
person without sight would be berift of that situation and therefore you'd
avoid that particular nasty habit.

Hope you have a Happy Valentine's Day and make sure you have plenty of
anti-venom serum available in case your date is not good in the manual
dexterity department.

The Password
(Submitted by: Lake Mist)

The moon had settled a little further down and the laughter from upstairs had
died away when next we left the Triboar Inn...

We headed north thru Triboar as if headed to the Berun gate...but we stopped
at 10,1 and faced west...a secret door there lies...

To travel to Triboar Under thru this gate, we faced six Basilisk, three Cloud
Giants and three Cloud Giant Shamans...we were glad we had not forgotten our
mirrored shields...

When we appeared in Triboar Under, we rememed our spells but did not
fix...one step north to start this trek, one step west and two to the
south...

The passage was long and twisting along this path...Minotaurs and Remorhaz
lurked at every turn and step...

The walls seemed blank and devoid of markings by which to guide...two steps
east and three to the north...three more steps to the west and one to the
south...stop...

A secret door on the west wall lies...we stepped lightly and did not shout,
for thru that door we knew there was another that hides the Dracolichs...

Once I heard a strange rushing above us that was not the sweep of the wind,
and from the way the others looked up, I knew it was not a common sound to
them either...

Dragonklaw loosened his sword in it's scabard; I followed suit...

Being wary for dangers hidden, we continued south for three steps and then
east for four...

Then we headed north til a door was seen...

We did not forget that danger lurked all about us...

Thru this door we found a large room with three doors, two on the west wall
and one on the east...

We stepped forward and turned east and thru the door...

A door was spied by all on the south wall...

A voice that seemed to come from above whispered that there was a hidden door
to the north also...

Thru the door on the south wall, lead by Dragonklaw, we entered a room with a
door to the west...

Dragonklaw told us to prep for two Efreetis and four Rock Lizards which lie
in wait thru a secret door directly ahead to the south...at least a hot fire
shield and mirror image...

These were defeated and the password was gained, the password that
is...gee...hum...aww...well...you will have to follow our foot steps to gain
that...back to Triboar and the Inn...frenzy...
The Raven

headline for the Raven as being chapter's 3 & 4 when in fact, chapter's 4 & 5
were printed. The editor appologizes for any inconvenience this may have

Chapter 3

It is dusky and dank in the old Temple of the Helm. The priests have
worked long through the night, employing every spell and cure they can think
of in an effort to revive Nalynn, Wife of Braldt2. All efforts have been to
no avail as her lifeless corpse lies upon the altar stone. They are about to
give up when a young elf enters the Temple. "Get thee gone from this place
young elfling! This is not a proper place for you! Begone!"

The young Elf stands his ground and proffers a small vial. "No sires,
wait! I have been instructed to come here. A falcon flew out of the sky and
alit on the tree before me as I was headed home. He told me of Lady Nalynn's
death and then bid me to take this vial from the sheath affixed to his leg.
He urged me to hurry quickly to this place and deliver it to you before it
was too late. I was ringbearer at the dear Lady's wedding to Braldt2 and am
honor bound to carry out these instruct ions." With that, he hands the vial
to the priests...who are puzzled. "Have you anything else to say then, young
elfling?"

"Aye, the Falcon told me this vial is from the well of Eternal Light.
He said it is used in an ancient ceremony to revive the dead. But he also
cautioned that the results can be unpredictable. I pray thee use it now,
before her flesh turns cold and gray. You are to place 3 drops - no more, no
less upon her lips, then cast the vial into the fire."

The priests follow these mysterious instructions, though they are
skeptical that a mere Elf youth would be entrusted with so important a
mission. Three drops of the vial's liquid are placed on Nalynn's lips. The
air is filled with the sweet aroma of jasmine. They cast the vial into the
open flame, but it does not burn or explode. Instead, it begins to glow and a
low, eerie hum fills the air - then, it simply vanishes. The priests wait
for an eternity it seems, but see no results. Discouraged, they leave to
prepare the funeral pyre. "Fools that we are for believing the practical
jokes of young Elves," the High Priest mutters. "We have done all we can,
let us prepare for a regal funeral and rest content in the knowledge that
Nalynn and Braldt2 have been reunited in the afterlife."

A reddish glow begins to emanate from Nalynn's lifeless corpse, lying
upon the altar stone. The humming grows louder and threads of light pierce
the glowing mist. Then, a shudder, her fingers twitch, then fists clench,
unclench. She opens her eyes, but strangely, cannot move. Her vision begins
to focus and as she licks her dry lips, she tastes a vague hint of
honeysuckle and jasmine flowers. She feels a strange energy pulsing through
her veins and her heart begins beating stronger with each passing second. At
last, she is able to move and struggles long and hard to sit up. She looks
around this strange room, sees numerous spent scrolls and empty containers
not to mention an array of peculiar devices.

"What is this place?" she wonders "It seems vaguely familiar, but
somehow, I cannot remember where or why I know it. How did I get here? Where
have I been?" A sharp twinge of pain pierces her ribs. She gently lifts her
shirt up and sees an angry scar, all that remains of the lethal wound so
recently inflicted upon her. She touches it and wonders how it came to be
there. Then she sees the ring upon her finger - a simple gold band with two
stones - one white and brilliant as a diamond, the other blue - somehow she
knows it is a blue Ioun stone.

The old charwoman who serves as caretaker of the Temple walks in with
a funeral shroud and looks toward the altar. "Aieeeeee!!!!! What deviltry is
this?" she cries as she looks upon the strange woman sitting on the altar.
She drops the shroud and flees from the hall. The High Priest comes running
into the Temple and sees the woman. "Here now, who are you and what are you
doing here! And WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE BODY OF THE LADY NALYNN????"

"Nalynn? Who is she? and more importantly, who are you? I do not
understand. What am I doing here? And why did that old woman scream when she
saw me?" The priest peers more closely, and realizes that the serum from the
vial has done its work, though as the Falcon forewarned, with unexpected
results. "Forgive me dear lady, I did not recognize thee for thou art
severely transformed."

"Transformed? Do you know me? Prithee tell me, who am I? I cannot
seem to remember anything except awakening in this cold, strange place."

"Ah, my dear child, 'tis far better if some things remain a untold.
Suffice to say you have been on a very long journey. Go forth and explore the
world anew - all will be revealed when the time is right."

The woman stands, her legs wobbly at first. But then she heads for
the door wondering what this world is and where she will have to go to seek
the knowledge which would answer the thousands of questions swimming through
her mind. As she leaves the Temple, the other priests gaze in wonderment as
she passes, bowing their heads. A Falcon, flying high overhead, glides to
earth crying out a greeting as she walks. She stops, looks up, and extends
her arm. The Falcon alights upon her hand, taking care not to pierce her skin
with his sharp talons. They gaze at each other for a moment. She nods and
they begin their journey together.

The High Priest watches her make her way down the path that leads to
Neverwinter. "Thou art truly blessed that the Infinite Powers saw fit to
restore your life and sent you a companion such as that majestic bird, Lady
Nalynn. I pray that you never learn the awful truth of your past."

A messenger bursts into the Seekers' meeting hall, brushing
Tapestries as he runs toward Solack. "Whoa, young Elfling. Slow down and
tell me what brings you to this hallowed hall in such an all-fired hurry."

"Art thou Solack, Sire?" the Elf gasps. "Yes, yes, 'tis I. Now, tell
me, why are you here?"

"Oh Sire, I bring tragic news. The Lady Nalynn has been murdered by
a traitorous elf known as Riklaun. He stabbed her with a Drow Dagger of
Infinite Slaying and killed her dead. Zamroth took her to the priests of the
Temple of the Helm. They have worked all night trying to revive her. They
chased me from the Temple after I delivered a potion to them with
instructions for its use."

"Nalynn, dead? What treachery is this? I know of this Riklaun... have
heard rumors that he has turned to the ways of evil. Where is her body now?
We must hurry to reclaim it before those blasted priests do something
terrible. She deserves a proper burial even if she didn't submit her
application to us."

"But Sire, that's what I'm trying to tell you!" the Elf blurts out.
"It seems that after administering the potion to her, the Lady was revived,
tho transformed in the process. It is rumored that she knows not who she is
or what has happened to her."

"Where is she now?" demands Solack.

"Sire, I do not know. She was seen heading toward Neverwinter Square
with a Falcon riding on her wrist. It is said the Falcon materialized out of
thin air and flew directly to her. I did not see her, so I know not what she
looks like. But find the Falcon and you are likely to find her. I must take
my leave now - there are others to notify." With that, the young Elf hurries
out of the hall, pausing only to straighten out the tapestries he so
carelessly jostled when he ran in.

The Seekers once again gather at the request of Solack. As the last
enters, Solack stands before the table and begins to speak. "It seems I must
once again be the bearer of bad news. It seems a friend, Nalynn by name, has
recently been slain by the same creature that took down Braldt2. This
creature may also be partly responsible for the death of Drago. All is not
lost, however, it seems Nalynn was somehow resurrected, but lost her memory.
She has also seemed to be transformed in some way, but before I could
question him further, the messenger who brought me this news had to take his
leave."

Before anyone can say anything, Solack continues, "I also have other
matters that need to be brought to your attention. I have been called away
on business elsewhere for the next few days, so will be unable to help in the
search. I will still be able to keep in touch with you, but only through a
portal I have set up for that purpose. I will be able to receive messages
through this portal and send them as well, but I will be unable to do much
else. I will be leaving within the next couple of days, so I can still help
to organize a search, but I will not be able to take part directly, for I
need to get ready for my journey. I am asking for volunteers to lead
expeditions to find Nalynn." With that, Solack sits back down. Before he
has even had time to try to get comfortable, several Seekers start to stand
and state that they will be willing to lead these expeditions...

"What have you done?" Thought Thranduil Graywolf as he prepared his
pack, "Do you realize yet what will happen to you? It takes much to anger an
elf, but once that is accomplished the anger will not subside easily. Look
into my eyes and feel the flames of my wrath. Your deeds will not go
unpunished, I promise you. Never again will you slaughter an unsuspecting
elf. Just like all true drow, the fear in your heart makes you strike down
enemies with lies and deceit. Do you have the strength to face an angered
Bladesinger sword to sword? I doubt it. I will find you."

With that, he grabbed his sword and placed it upon his hip. He
walked out the door to begin his search. He knew that if he should fail,
others would take up the search for Riklaun has angered many. Thranduil
walked to Lord Monar's estate to tell him he was leaving. When he got there,
Lord Monar had already left to bring Riklaun back himself. Thranduil
Graywolf bundled his cloak against himself to protect against the chill
winter air. He walked out into the city of Neverwinter.

A stranger wanders into the Village Square - hub point of the Grey
Company. On her arm rests a majestic Falcon. As she approaches the tavern,
she looks in the window - sees an Elfin face staring back at her. "Who is
this creature who gazes back at me?" She touches the glass, only then
realizing the face she sees is her own. "This cannot be me - I do not
recognize this face. It seems as though once I bore a different form and
shape. Oh, if only I could remember."

She reads the message left by Thandruil GrayWolf
"Riklaun....Braldt..." and her ring grows heavy and the gems begin to glow.
She is on the verge of discovering something - but as quickly as the
knowledge is upon her, it vanishes - like a dream forgotten upon waking. "How
strange and sad.. I must find someone who can tell me the story." They leave
as quietly as they came.

Chapter 6

Nalynn's journey takes her to many strange places these days, but
none so strange as the Inn in Vilnask where she ran into a fellow named
Zarn1982. He has told her a bizarre tale - of marriage, betrayal and former
guilds once mighty, but now fallen. The encounter was overwhelming, the story
simply too incredible to be believed. "Marriage, murder?" nuzzles her beloved
Falcon "Why would that gentleman tell me such a weird story? Isn't it enough
that I must constantly be looking over my shoulder for this Riklaun fellow
who's menacing me from afar - and for what reason, I can't begin to fathom.
And what of this Braldt creature? Is it possible I could have been wedded to
him? If so, why does he not contact me?" The ring glows brightly and her
headache returns. She sinks to her knees in indescribable agony.

CarnalDave sits in his quiet room going over his notes from the
previous day's battle. He had found Riklaun, the traitor. It pained him to
do the things he did but the horrible things he saw frightened him. He picks
up his quill and begins to write in his diary...
Accept my apologizes, there will not be the ultimate suspense in this
tale, for the fact I write it here now indicates that I did not die. But
when I saw the dead rise before my eyes to renew the attack I wondered if I
would ever come to tell this particular tale. The disgusting horror of the
scenes that unfolded before me would, if contrived in some kind of stage
buffoonery, perhaps, to some not squeamish audience, seem ridiculous and even
mad. But the un-natural truth held no humor for me as I began to see a
strange glow from within the translucent body of the giant slug.

Not the first thing on my mind as I trailed through tel'ranaemyn was
Riklaun. My prayers had revealed that I should focus on the threat posed to
Tel' Orn En Coi, and that I could rely on my officers to capture the
criminal. So when I sensed his presence I was a little surprised, for the
Hills were quiet and the hour was very late, almost early. I had driven away
for the moment the dracoliches that inhabited the southern fortress, and was
tired and looking for a warm bed to share. But as we esp'd I wondered how I
might lure him to me, in order to affect his demise.

Well, Melatura en Amin, she works in very mysterious ways sometimes,
but sometimes she is very bold and often rewards us directly, blessed be Our
Lady Tel'Ithil may she shine forever. As I approached the fens where the
giant slugs lair I heard the sounds of battle. I approached carefully for I
heard an elven voice as it cast upon the creatures. Indeed, it was Riklaun
himself, engaged with them. He seemed to be fleeing, a wise move for he was
in a vulnerable position. I stepped out from my hiding place, and caught him
unawares with il N'tess.

The slugs move slowly, but still were able to ooze over Riklaun and
engulf him. I could see the look of surprise, then fear as he realized his
impending fate at the hands of the slugs. The slug reared over him and
dripped slimy acid mucous over and engulfing his head. As it fell upon him
with its great quivering slathering mass I heard no scream for he was
paralyzed by my magic. But I did hear the double crack of his femurs as the
weight of the slug came fully to bear on his slim elven frame. I could see
the dark shadow of his body suck into the core, like the evil which worked
its way into his own heart.

As I prayed for his future I watched the slug digest his remains. "It
has been a very good night" I thought to myself, and I again thanked the Moon
for her blessings. At first I thought the glow was only moonshine on the
slime of the slug. But as I looked it began to grow and writhe within its
foul gut. I prayed a little blessing. The slug began to twitch and squirm
in ways I had never seen a slug move before. It looked like an earthworm on
a hook as the glow became brighter and I could begin to make out a twisted
form within the gelatinous sarcophagus.

I prayed again to Corellon Larethian this time for my very sanity as
the eyes of the slug shot out of its soft head and into the brush. The
scream of a giant slug as it is torn apart from within is a sound that would
seem was never meant to be made in all the plans of all the gods. As the
flesh of the slug began to rip and its inner meat extrude I wondered what
kind of evil was at work that night. I could now clearly see the form of
Riklaun straightening its broken limbs and ripping its way out of the belly
of the slug! What un-natural force could will such an abomination! I
watched stunned as he stood and challenged me again.

I suppose the sounds of the deaths of the slugs had attracted them,
or perhaps the pungent stench of its bowels now spread around the clearing,
for we were at that moment attacked by a troop of margoyles and more slugs.
We scrambled for position, and I was caught by the edge of some of his
magics, and partially slowed. I made for the cover of some trees, and the
margoyles swarmed to Riklaun. As he fended them off I was able to cast
again, this time I slowed him. I believe he cast a dimension door and
escaped, for the margoyles turned to me.

After the horrors I had beheld just moments ago the margoyles seemed
like mere animated drawings in a children's game. They were easily
dispatched with a couple of fireballs. I searched the area of the battle for
hours but found no sign of the criminal Riklaun. This will not end so
easily. We must work together to thwart the evil influence which seeks to
overtake us. The normal limits of flesh and time have been transcended, and
we must respond with supernatural forces of our own. May the light of the
Moon and Stars reveal what is hidden, may the strength of Corellon Larethian
give us, may the wisdom of our ancestors guide us.

CarnalDave
Captain of the Grey Company

Carnaldave proceeded to memorize the passage so he could call a
meeting in the Great hall. This news must be spread throughout the Grey
Company.
Saybr's Origin...
(Submitted by: HC Saybr)

The squad of mechanical warriors moved quietly, but deliberately. Once they
passed into the boundries of the village, they began their attack. From two,
great spouts of fire poured forth from some crossbow-shaped device, which was
connected to metal packs on their backs. Lightning seemed to burst from the
extended arms of two others. Finally, icy blasts from the remaining two
soldiers killed any who rushed from their homes to oppose the intruders. The
entire slaughter took less than ten minutes to complete. "Target acquired
and exterminated. No specimens suitable for assimilation found. Strike
force returning to base," the leader said, the only words spoken during the
attack. The squad turned and left, as quietly as they came.

The wolf snarled at the young human male. He had been stalking him for
hours, but grew impatient with the hunt. Sensing an opening, he dove through
the brush, pinning the boy on his back. Looking the human straight in the
eye, he lowered his mouth, licking Saybr all over his face. "Enough!
Enough!" Saybr pleaded. The young wolf rolled onto his back, wanting to have
his belly rubbed. "Some wild animal you turned out to be, Stoli," Saybr
said, remembering the day he rescued the wolf pup from the hunters trap. The
two had been inseperable ever since. "We're already in enough trouble. We
had better head back."

As they approached the village, Stoli lifted his nose to the air. "Smells
like someone had a huge fire," replied Saybr. They broke through the cover
of the trees, and the ruined village came into view. Saybr broke into a run,
tears in his eyes. "Everything, everyone,...gone!" Saybr realized that his
life had just been shattered.

A howl came from the remains of Saybr's home. He ran to where the house once
stood, finding Stoli digging in the remains. "Saybr!", gasped his badly
burnt and bleeding father. "Thank Paladine you've been spared"

"What happened father?" asked a bewildered Saybr.

"The metal men....," Saybr's father had trouble speaking," came and burnt
the city. Listen to me, this is important. The metal fiends are headed
toward Neverwinter. You must go and warn Lord Nasher. Ask him to aid you,
he is a kind man. And take this, I'll be having no need for it now..." Saybr
took the offered mace from his father.

"I'll take you with me. We can make it." Saybr knew in his heart the words
weren't true, but he tried to defy fate anyways.

"Son, my time has come. Paladine has spared you for a reason. Go and find
out what that reason is." Saying thus, Saybr's father passed on.

After tears and burials, Saybr set out for Lord Nasher's castle. Looking
back one last time, Saybr says, "The monsters that did this will pay. That
much I vow." Stoli let out a growl in agreement. The two left their
village, forever.

Getting to Neverwinter was uneventful. Saybr was well received by Lord
Nasher. In return for the information he bore, Saybr was given a place to
stay, and some money. He was also given the opportunity to develop his
skills in the Neverwinter training hall. He decided to follow the ways of
the cleric and the mage, since he was suited for both. His first assignment
was to help rescue Willow Clover in Vilnask, so he headed south.

On the road leading to Vilnask, Stoli suddenly bounded away. Saybr hurired
after him, wondering what was the matter. Entering a clearing, he spots
Stoli helping some other wolves kill a couple of giant kamphults. As he
entered the battle to help, he noticed two other humans also coming into the
fray. Upon closer examination, he noticed the two were vampires! One of the
vampires raised her hand, and Saybr found that he could not move. The other
smiled wickedly, and began to advance on the wolves. After killing the
original wolves, the vampire turned to Stoli. Stoli managed to bite him a
few times, but he was no match for two vampires. Frustrated at not being
able to do anything, and staring in horror, Saybr watched as his last friend
was mercilessly slaughtered. A knight suddenly appeared, and killed the
remaining kamphult, and the vampires diappeared. When he could finally move
again, Saybr explained what had happened to the knight, who turned out to be
a Holy Crusader, member of a good guild of Neverwinter.

"They attacked you in an area of Neverwinter that is under the protection of
Lord Nasher? That is a violation that demands exile from the realm!" The
knight closed his eyes, and was still for a moment. "I have sent a message
to two of Lord Nashers personal retainers. The vampires are being hunted
down as we speak. They will do no more evil in Neverwinter."

As the knight turned to leave, Saybr asked, "Please. Tell me of your guild."

The knight leaned on his sword. "Alright. We are a guild made up of good
knights. Our purpose is to help those who are weak, and cannot defend
themselves. We also have vowed to hunt down and eliminate those who are evil
in the realm, such as the MECH's that destroyed your village. If you are
interested, follow me, and prove your worth to our cause."

Saybr saw the purpose for which his life was spared. By joining the HC's, he
could avenge his villages worthless destruction, and prevent it from
happening to others. He proved his worth, joined the HC's, and, after years
of service, rose through the ranks to become the Lord at Arms of the Harper
Duchy, under Duke Trance. If he sometimes seems a little abrubt, you now
know why. You now also know where his passionate hatred of the Vampires and
Mechs comes from.

But know one other thing. Never fear of asking him for aid, for he will
always lend his sword to one in need.
Freedom Crushed (Interlude Continued)
(Submitted by: KF Chronos)

All is quiet in the Camarilla, for the great chamber is almost empty. The
Nosferatu have all gone out to feed, all but one...V Saul, Lord of the
Camarilla. He stands in the center of the room staring at the only other
person in the room with cold, unblinking eyes.

Chronos returns the stare in full.....his rage evident in his eyes.It is
Chronos who speaks first.

" So is this the part where you torture me and try to get me to tell you
all of the secrets of the Knights of Freedom?"

     Saul laughs evilly

"You are pathetic, What makes you think your petty Knights have any
information i would desire? The only thing you had that was even remotely
interesting was the one amongst you who claimed to be Torm, And hes been
snatched away by the UDL's HEHE, You mortals are all the same, you think the
world revolves around your worthless little lives, when in fact you know
NOTHING !"

" No tonight i have other plans for you..." Saul continues as he walks
over and seats himself on his throne." go over to the coffer on the wall and
bring me its contents!"

Chronos opens the coffer and inside it are a large Goblet and a jeweled
dagger. Taking one in each hand Cronos walks over and hands them to Saul.Saul
stes the goblet down on the arm of his throne, he holds the dagger in both of
his hands to examine it.The hilt of the weapon is carved into the image of a
beautiful woman standing atop atop a coffin. With the blade coming out from
the bottom of the coffin.

" This is Kad'ell," Saul says never even looking at Chronos" The dream
stealer,She is so named because the sleep she injects is permanent."

Saul whispers something and touches the blade with two of his fingers,
Chronos notices the eyes on the hilt flare red for a second, the returnto
their dark state.Saul looks up and hands the blade to Chronos.

     " I offer you a deal Chronos...."Says Saul

" Do I have a choice?" Asks Chronos

" Hahahahaha..... Not really." States Saul

" Well then lets hear your deal."says Chronos

" You slice your wrist with Kad'ell, then let your blood flow into my
goblet,if you stay conscious long enough to see the cup overflow, you are
free."Saul says with an evil grin on his face.

" Whats in it for you?" Asks Chronos

" Surely thats obvious even to you? If you fail.......I get the pleasure
of watching you die.................By your own hand." Saul says with a cruel
laugh.

Chronos moves his arm over the goblet.....he draws the dagger down his
wrist,he then holds his arm still allowing his lifeblood to pour into the
vampires goblet.

Long minutes pass as the two stare into each others eyes, rage, and
hatred evident in both sets of eyes.It is Saul who first breaks the stare to
look at the goblet.

" Hmmm.... You are doing quite well....Most who have accepted the
challenge died before the cup was half full.....Yet here you stand as it
reaches three quarters.."

Chronos just stares at Saul only the strength of his will holding him
up.He hears footsteps behind him,it is then that he realizes the lack of food
and sleep over the last few days combined with his current loss of blood have
caught up with him, as he turns to face the aproaching danger blackness
envelopes him, a blackness he welcomes...... ...........He doesnt even feel
himself hit the cold stone floor.

" Am I dead." Chronos thinks " No I hurt too much to be dead."

" ungh " Chronos groans as the kick to his midsection connects, curling
him into a ball.He opens his eyes to see V Targoth standing over him.

" Its about time!"yells Targoth " Get up you worthless dog."

Judging from the pain in his side it must've taken several kicks to to
get Chronos to wake up.Shaking it off Chronos stands trying to clear his head
and remember where he is.he looks down and notices his wrist has been
bandaged but he is still covered in blood.....his own blood!!!!!.

" I should be dead." He blurts out

" Thats what I kept saying." Says Saul

" How long have I slept?" asks Chronos as he turns to face Saul

" A couple days." says Saul " It was an impressive display of
willpower.......for a mortal. And in light of your victory over death you will
be allowed to go out on the town. You will serve Targoth this evening as a
bodyguard."

" As you command Lord Saul."Says Chronos still groggy from the ordeal.

" I will not be seen with you in this condition."says Targoth " You will
bath and clean your gear then meet me at Dagda's inn in an hour!"

A hush fell over the room as Chronos entered Dagda's inn.

" It's about time! " Targoth yelles as Chronos entered. " You will pay
dearly for making me wait ! Let us begone from this place I grow bored here!"

" As you command M'lord." says Chronos Bowing

The two turn and leave Dagda's inn and head out into the streets of
Neverwinter. They had not gone twenty feet before a young adventurer
recognized the Knights of Freedom emblem worn by Chronos and asked......

"Excuse me Lord Silverglade, Could you take me out and teach me how to
be a knight?"

" I'm sorry," replies Chronos " You'll have to ask Lord Targoth."

     " Lord " Targoth?" says the boy" But he's a <gulp> V, isnt he?"

" That is correct, I know serve Lord Saul and the Camarilla." says
Chronos

" CHRONOS! " Shouts Targoth " Why have you stopped?"

" The boy wishes for me to help him gain expieriencs as a Knight." says
Chronos

" We do not have time for these petty mortals, be gone boy before I turn
you into rat food.!" says Targoth

The two travel on from inn to inn, Targoth intent on showing all the
realms his new toy.As the two sit in their latest rest stop,Targoth is more
intent on the beautiful Lady Cheress than on Chronos,And Chronos is thankfull
for the lull in the abuse.

When suddenly the doors burst open and in walks KF Sturm. He surveys the
room and his eyes lock on V Targoth.

" Targoth you worm....step outside i want to have a word with you!."
Growls Sturm

Chronos gets up and moves between Targoth and Sturm

" Oh how nice," says Targoth " Another slave in the making."

" Targoth I challenge you to combat, for the freedom of Chronos" says
Sturm

" Unacceptable" says Chronos " I did not swear loyalty to
Targoth........I swore it to Saul!"

" Then i'll fight him for the fun of seeing him cleansed!" laughs Sturm!

" Chronos escourt this peon out of my sight "says Targoth

" As you wish M'Lord." says Chronos bowing

" C'mon Sturm lets go." says Chronos as he heads for the door

" I'm not leavin here without a fight!" says Sturm

Chronos reaches out and grabs Sturm by the back of his neck and throws
him through the doors onto the street, then follows him out!

" I'm not leavin without a fight " says Sturm again

" Then youll have to fight me!" Says Chronos as he draws Gadvin

" I'll not fight you, " says Sturm

Unseen by Chronos V Ehlana goes into the Inn and orders a drink.Sturm
watches Ehlana enter the Inn, pushes past Chronos and runs into the Inn.

" HA.... Another of the V worms has decided to tarnish the reputation of
this fine establishment." Says Sturm

V Ehlana turns to regard him with a distasteful eye.

" Maybe since Targoth is too cowardly to fight me you would be so kind
as to represent your worthless guild in southwall tramp." says Sturm

" Ehlana empties her flaggon of ale and says" I'll meet you there in ten
minutes!!!!"

     Sturm storms out the door.

Targoth gets up and goes over to talk to Ehlana, after several minutes
of tense conversation Targoth turns to Chronos and says.....

" Chronos ....you will go with Ehlana and protect her from Sturm!"

" As you command." Chronos Growls

Whithin minutes the unlikely pair are on the road headed for southwall.

As soon as Sturm and Ehlana see each other the battle comences, and just
as quickly it almost ends....Sturm casts hold on Ehlana and moves in for the
kill....But Chronos rushes up and slams Sturm in the side knocking him to the
ground ending the battle temporarily.....Once freed Ehlana, commands Chronos
to stay out of the battle.

" But M'lady..." says Chronos " Lord Targoth has bade me protect you."

" I Dont need your help ! And Lord Targoth is not Here!" Ehlana Growls
at Chronos

" As you command M'lady!" Says Chronos smiling to himself

The two combatants cast globe simultaneously But Sturm is the first to
recover from the casting,he casts stinking cloud causing Ehlana to cough and
hack at the nauseating smell, then before she can recover he calls upon the
powers of Torm and Mystra and casts Slay, the Vampires skin begins to blister
and peel away before his eyes till finally she is nothing more than a pile of
ash bieng blown away by the wind....

" Do you feel better" asks Chronos

     " Most assuredly!" says Sturm

The two friends Smile .....then looking up at the night sky Chronos
says......

" Well its almost dawn i'd better be getting back!"

"Aye" says Sturm" Dont worry my friend even as we speak Lord Rune is
organizing a war party to take down Saul!"

" I knew he would......But.....tell him i said not to tell him to think
of all the Knights he will lose in the battle, are their lives worth
sacrificing for one!!!."

"hahahahahahaha...... you Know the answer to that better than anyone.!"
says Sturm

" yes.... well...... till next we meet my friend....!" says Chronos

" Till next we meet......" says Sturm

    And the two friends part
company...................................................

Lands of Summer -Part 1

(Submitted by: Halleck)

We begin this tale of the Lands in the Capital of the them all,
it is appropriately called Neverwinter,
and friends can meet in its fabled Great Hall.

Inside the capital of Neverwinter there are many sites to be sought,
from the high palace of Lord Nasher,
to the lowly sewers where difficult battles are often fought.

Near the dark blue sea is Port Last,
at which is docked the seaworthy Gallant Prince,
and brass buttons can be won if you survive the madeusa's stony blast.

Another region is named Nightsedge which is in the forest deep,
many are lost in the cavern's legendary mazes,
for the sorceress will get you since she never goes to sleep.

Towards the West is a city called Westbridge where one must always watch for
a foe,
luckily potions may be bought,
which should help you against the evil drow.

Windy cliffs is a region close to home where it pays to know the facts,
lizard men and their fire lizards often attack,
many veterans only go there to practice on the Dracs

Through the lost hills one may reach Triboar,
in these regions no lowly boars will be met,
but in the Arena many players seek war.

One last tip I will impart,
If you see me in battle I am likely not outflanked,
ask first - NT means no thanks, but often a hand is needed and sorely
thanked.

Love in Neverwinter
(Submitted by: Syren Coal)

May I have this dance
In Neverwinter's masquerade
Cheating at romance
Till rules blur and fade
And I am coming masked
A specter in the night
Questions never asked
Until I'm out of sight
In this game of fancy
Where players wear a shroud
Love is often chancey
Among this fickle crowd
And secret words of passion
Whispered with heated breath
Grow quickly out of fashion
Into an empty death
Is this some monstrosity
Or am I losing pace
Trapped at high velocity
Within this nightmare place
I tried to peel away
My mask of careful sighs
But I am sad to say
Behind it nothing lies
But mock me not too soon
For I see the naked facts
You are also hollow
Beneath your haughty acts
Your secret is safe with me
So I'll meet you at the ball
Clothed in naught but trickery
A shadow on the wall

Beginner's Luck at the Tavern
(Submitted by: MmeColleen)

As I was wandering about Neverwinter, I came upon a taven which I had never
visited before. There were sounds of cheer and camraderie drifting out, so I
took up my courage and entered within the premises.

I had barely entered through the door when the tavernkeep came up to me and
asked my name. "Welcome, Colleen. Would you care for anything to eat or
drink?" Cyane inquired with a bright smile and welcoming hand.

"Just a Mead, please." I said with a smile. I knew this would be a friendly
place to visit whenever I was returned from my wanderings.

My Mead set before me, Cyane asked if I would care to join in on the darts
tournament. With thoughts of how I had punctured my own self with such
misguided instruments in the past, I was inclined to turn down the offer.
After all, could I even hit the right wall, much less miss the tavern's
guests? But she prevailed upon me to try anyway, and so I stepped up to try
my hand, with no thought that I could possibly win.

My first dart was so far off the mark (thankfully missing the tavern's
patrons) that it drew a chorus of chuckles and laughs from those who had
stopped to watch. I blushed a bright red and would have fled the tavern in
embarrassment were it not for Cyane's kind words and encouragement. She took
the time to show me how to throw a good dart, and I tried once again.

This time, I hit the target, but still did not anticipate that by the time
the evening was done that I would be the winner. The idea still seemed
preposterous, but I had to admit that Cyane had made me feel welcome, so that
I would anticipate returning. Consider my surprise when I was told later
that my dart had been the winning throw of the night, and that the results
for that successful dart had won me 5 pearls!

I know that the Tavern promises to be one of my favorite hangouts now that
I've met someone who could make me feel so welcome, and then find that too
that the camraderie and gaming there can be as warm and exciting as the
adventures I encounter within the regions surrounding my adopted home.

(Submitted by: N0R S0NG)

As the light from the breaking dawn spilled out onto the sleeping figure,
sounds of a town waking up could be heard all around. The smell of the inn's
cook preparing breakfast wafted through the air as the figure stirred. Rising
up on one elbow, the one known as Songshine glanced through bleary eyes at
unfamiliar surroundings. The inn at Vilnask had been a welcome sight when
she had come tredging into town, footsore and slightly wounded. It had been a
hard trip. Song had heard that the woods from Neverwinter to Vilnask had
recently become overrun with packs of wild dogs and enchanted trees. As she
stiffly sat up, her mind wandered to the journey that lay ahead.

Songshine had heard tell of a perilous road ahead from a fellow
adventurer who had travelled throughout Vilnask Wild many times. The road
had been aptly named "the drac run" for many a person was beset upon by quite
a few of the undead dragons while looking for Willow, who had been carried
away some time before. Song knelt in prayer to Mystra, asking for wisdom in
weilding her art in the battles that she would surely see that day. After
double checking her equipment, Song went into the front hall of the inn and
walked out into the street. The town about her was bustling with folks going
from one shop to another, yet Song met nobody that she regarded as a friend.
Suddenly a voice was echoing in her head, a desperate cry for help.
"Songshine, help! We have found the drac den and we are greatly outnumbered.
I pray thee, hasten unto us, for your aid is greatly needed." With the voice
gone from her head, Song hurried to set her foot upon the path leading her to
certain peril.

After a greeting and plea for help from Willow's daughter, Song was led
through many doors. The path started wide, but soon dwindled down to a small
footpath, twisting and turning among many stones. Quite suddenly, she was
beset upon by kraken spies who were being backed up by a ghostly apperition.
After a momentary fright at thier sudden appearance, Songshine moved her
fingers in a simple pattern and mumbled a single word. A large fireball tore
forth from her fingers, screaming toward the kraken spies. They barely had
time to turn and flee before the fire consumed the small company , turning
them into piles of ash in a split second. As the smell of scorched flesh
reached her nostrils,Song saw that the banshee was advancing toward her.
Without hesitation, Song sent a stream of magic missiles straight toward the
ghostly figure. It flickered as the missiles reached it, letting out a
deafening wail. It reached for Song with a misty white hand and attempted to
tear at Song's throat. As the adventurer ducked, she swung her flail into
the air where the apparition appeared to be. The weapon whistled through
nothing as it sought it's target. On the backswing, however, the banshee was
not so lucky as the blow found it's mark. With one final screach, the
banshee disappeared into nothingness.

With sweat glistening from her brow, Song paused for a moment and
surveyed the damage. A quick search reavealed that the spies had been
carrying little as they scavenged about. The banshee, however, had been
guarding a cloak that was found lying to the side of the battleground. Song
rolled it carefully and placed it into her gear sack for later
identification. A quick rest later, and she was on her way once again in
answer to the plea for help she had received earlier.

A Wedding
(Submitted by Sir Arion)

It twas easy to tell that this was the month of love.... for it twas
demonstrated yet again by the fellowship of Those Who Harp. I considert
myself fortunate that they were kind enough to count me among their number "A
blessing on those who give so freely of themselves Mystra", I murmured to
myself.

They kneeled facing each other and the glow of the sunset seemed to be
enchanted for there was a glow all around the two who would confess their
love for all to see.

Quill was shaking and those who did not look in his eyes assumed it was
nerousness, but I could tell from just one look. It was in wonder that he
did shake. Wonder that such a beautiful and gentle lady would even pause to
smile at him much less consent to be his wife.

Flaire was outwardly calm, yet there was a sense of amazement in her eyes
that shone outward from her soul. She considered the fine man before her and
was pleasantly surprised that the gods would part with one of their own.

The backbone of the Harpers it was said, and truthful it was. They were
both the finest examples that any Harper could strive for, and many had done
just that after being near them. I only hope that my name will be remembered
as theirs are... for their kindness not just their deeds.

As one they pledged Heart....Soul....and Life to each other. With Tarl and
Sharnna presiding they were pledged husband and wife. The eruption of cheers
made the land itself come alive as they turned to face the gathering of
friends who would give them their well wishes.

Then it happened....the magic came true.....the fantasy transcended to
reality and a fantasy came true for real. The Lady accepted the Man's
proposal and what was acted in all seriousness will be acted out again, yet
it will be no less true for having been done it the "real world".

 My thanks for the privelege.

Wedding Beauty
(Submitted by Sir Arion)

The sun shone down on the court stones newly gleaming from a spell
cleaning. Layered with Faerie Fire spells every arch, column, statue, door
and window was aglitter. I suspect the glitter came partly from magic and
mostly from the comraderie of those gathered there to be witness to a
joining.

The Elves, the Dwarves, the Hobbits, and even the Drow name it differently
but the meaning remains the same. A marriage. A wedding. The truest
expression of Love that any couple can make.

People jostled for position while Tarl and Sharnna looked at each other
with a new understanding dawning in their eyes. The joy and love they
expressed in their vows was as evident as if they were two lovestruck
teenagers catching their first glimpse of each other. True Love.

Watching the ceremony I murmured to myself, "Lady Mystra, I mean no
disrespect when I say to thee that there be greater magic's than even thine."
I think she agreed with me for it twas soon after that I heard her call to
lay down my sword for awhile and partake of her glory in spellcraft.

I must give great credit to Frosty, Quill, and Tarlcabot for twas they who
did take me under there wing and teach me many aspects of both swordplay and
magic that I would never have learned on my own. For if they did not tutor
me I would never have heard Mystra's call.

Soon I consider walking the realms, again with sword in hand but the
stronger for the magic behind it. For all my strength I owe to the Harper's
and would like to repay in kind. I offer my alliegence to Those Who Harp if
they would take me. To prove my worth I beg of thee a task to prove my
dedication.

Trouble at the Warehouse District - Part 2
(Submitted by Makmorg)

I came to the city of Neverwinter to uncover rumors that the evil Zhentarim,
my eternal enemies from Zhentil Keep, were active in this area. A local
merchant by the name of Duncan Stillwater was to provide some clues to the
Black Network's dark plans for the fair city. Instead of finding him at his
home in Neverwinter's once thriving Warehouse District as arranged, however,
I found his residence wrecked, his daughter Katrina weeping for him, and one
missing information broker. Agents of the Zhentarim had him and I had little
time left to find him. Without him I may never stop whatever nefarious deeds
the Zhentarim were plotting for Neverwinter and its inhabitants. To help in
my search I was given a magic ring by Katrina. Embedded in the ring was a
jewel that glowed whenever it was near the twin wore by her missing father.
I promised the younger Stillwater that I would bring back her father to her
alive. My name is Makmorg. I am called the Black Crossbow by the Zhentarim.
Perhaps they remember my past association with the mercenary regiment of the
same name or they've seen too many of their comrades slain by my Dwarven
designed black crossbow. Doesn't matter either way. In the end it's always
the same. I destroy anything that comes out of Zhentil Keep.

I dropped off Katrina Stillwater with some of her father's friends in
Neverwinter and was back in the Warehouse District, North of the city,
scouring the area for the elder Stillwater's whereabouts. It turned out that
my missing contact was not the only one in the information business and his
friends were more than happy to divulge whatever knowledge they had on
possible Zhentarim safe houses, probably used to store smuggled weapons and
house their agents, in the Warehouse District. Unfortunately that was the
extent of their information.

Two hours and three empty safe houses later I was no closer to finding
Stillwater than I was when I first showed up at his home. Grasping Katrina's
magic ring I looked at the lifeless jewel and thought grimly, things were not
a glowing success so far.

I quickly shrugged off my doubt. With the Zhentarim in Neverwinter, it could
only mean the worse for the humans and demihumans of the city. I could
not-would not-allow them to bring their form of evil to this land. I owed my
deceased family, victims of Zhentarim assassins, that much.

I thought of approaching Lord Nasher, Neverwinter's leader, for help but
quickly decided against it. With the city facing danger from all sides the
former adventurer would be unable to spare any city guard or resources to
track down a single citizen on the basis of rumors. I needed proof of the
Black Network's activities in Neverwinter. I had to find Stillwater. He was
my only lead and possibly the city's only hope. I just pray that my only
lead wasn't already becoming acquainted with the more exotic species of fish
at the bottom of the mystical Neverwinter River. I could only continue my
search.

At the fourth location given to me by Stillwater's merchant associates I was
finally beginning to feel Tymora's good graces. A soft glow emanated from
Katrina's ring. Grinning to myself I thought, things were looking brighter.
No time, however, to waste.

The structure, like most of the buildings in the area, was an abandoned
warehouse. I could barely make out the words Golden Griffon Inc. on the
peeling sign hanging over the door. The windows were still in place, but
were covered with years of accumulated grime and dirt. So much for spying
through the glass. Instead I pressed my ear to the filthy pane but heard no
sounds from inside. Time for action.

I made quick work of the simple lock and was inside in no time. The door
swung on well oiled hinges and opened into a dimly lighted, large storage
area. The air smelled of must, mildew, and lamp oil. This area was recently
occupied. But there were no lamps lighted. I then realized that the little
light I saw was coming from the far end of the warehouse. A secret panel,
maybe? I unslung my crossbow from across my back and triggered the switch to
unfurl the compact weapon. I then cat footed across the warehouse floor
moving from crate to crate until I reached the source of light. It was
coming from a seam between the wall and the floor. Definitely a secret
panel. Nothing like faulty workmanship to ruin a group of evil doers day.

I easily located the switch to trigger the hidden door and a small panel slid
open in the wall. A set of gray, stone steps leading down were before me.
Strains of light and muffled voices drifted up from below. I quietly made my
way down the steps and reached a wooden door at the foot of the stairs. I
pressed my ear to the door. This was quickly becoming an annoying habit. I
could barley discern the voices being spoken.

"...why are you wasting our time...who have you spoken to..."

"...don't know...talking about..."

"...grunt....grunt...."

Grunt, grunt? I couldn't tell what language that was but the loud slap I
then heard told me that someone-by the sudden brightness of Katrina's ring my
guess would be Stillwater-was on the receiving end on some serious
questioning.

I stood up, hefted my weapon and kicked the door open. The wood around the
lock easily splintered and I charged across the threshold, my crossbow held
at the ready. Before me in the magically lighted small stone cut room were
several individuals. The battered and bruised human tied to a wooden chair
would be Stillwater. The black robed human hovering over the merchant with a
lead sap in hand I recognized as a Zhentarim lackey by the name of Zazic, a
low level agent who handled minor strong arm business for the Black Network.
The remaining individuals in the room were two standard issue, black armored
Zhentarim thugs and one rather large hobgoblin, probably Zazic's bodyguard.
Most Zhentarim, even the lowliest ones, traveled with an inhuman bodyguard.
I guess it was a status symbol for citizens of Zhentil Keep.

I kept my crossbow aimed at hobgoblin and the thugs, the most obvious threats
to keep them honest. The evil humans were holding the hilts of their weapons
but were smart enough to stay their ground. The weaponless hobgoblin, a
large, very muscular, beast, seemed content to stare daggers at me with tiny,
yellow eyes. I spoke to my captives.

"Unless that sap is a new kind of healing wand I suggest you step away from
my friend, Zhentarim dog." Zazic complied and brought his arms to his side.
Stillwater looked up at me through puffy eyes and managed a weak smile
through his split lips.

"Thank the gods." He croaked. I then noticed that Zazic had a sly smile on
his face. It unnerved me.

"What are you smiling about lackey?"

The agent from Zhentil Keep grinned even wider and said, "Oh, no particularly
reason, oh famous Black Crossbow, slayer of my kind. I was just thinking how
you saved us the trouble of finding you."

Damn! Zhentarim were cowards by nature. A confident Zhentarim meant that I
was in immediate, serious trouble. It was trouble I almost spotted too late.
A shadow from above suddenly draped my form. I spun around quickly and
barely got my crossbow up in time to block a descending sword blow. Mystical
sparks flew through the air as the sword collided with my magic weapon and my
assailant, dressed from head to toe in a drab gray outfit, was knocked back a
couple of steps. A Kraken spy! Damned assassin was probably hidden in the
alcove above like some spider. What kind of evil alliances were the
Zhentarim forming in this region? Not giving the spy a chance to recover I
planted a boot squarely in his chest and knocked him on top of the steps. I
then triggered my crossbow pinning the assassin to the steps with a bolt
through his heart. The Kraken spy shuddered once in his death throes and
then was still.

Zazic was not one to waste my moment of distraction. He barked out orders to
his servants. "You two, kill him! Preshur bring me his head!"

The dwarf who designed my crossbow added a special slide along the base of
the weapon which quickly loaded a bolt from wing like racks along the side.
It also cocked the weapon as well. I was already rearmed when I turned
around to face my attackers. I quickly pulled the trigger again and my next
bolt slammed into the Zhentarim thug menacing me from the left, easily
piercing his armor and hurling him to floor for a permanent rest. I reloaded
and prepared to dispatch the remaining two. Preshur the hobgoblin, however,
moved faster than I expected for someone his size. The muscular beast
grabbed the second thug by the nape of his neck and tossed him at me like a
living missile. Before I could react the Zhentarim thug slammed into me, and
we both went down in a tangle of limbs, me losing my weapon during the
impact. I had to give the hobgoblin, normally stupid creatures, credit for
creativity.

Not waiting for the stunned Zhentarim to recover, I smashed a fist across his
face knocking him unconscious and kicked his still form off of me. But
before I could recover my weapon I was suddenly scooped up by the hobgoblin
who lifted me as easily a halfling. He held me in a bone breaking bear hug,
my arms pinned to my sides, and with a foul stench coming from his mouth the
hobgoblin grunted, "Now you knows I break you." Hobgoblins were not known
for eloquent speeches.

Zazic, on the other hand, cackled with wicked delight at my predicament.
"Yes, Preshur. Crush him. Destroy him. We'll be rewarded beyond belief for
finishing off the infamous Black Crossbow."

I was definitely beginning to feel the pressure. My ribs screamed in painful
protest and black spots began to dance before my vision. I was losing my
grip on consciousness and if I didn't act soon, would lose my life. I tried
to break his steel like grip but the Hobgoblin, snickering at my efforts,
only tightened his grip on me even more. My mind was starting to slip into
darkness. I had to free myself.

An idea then struck me and I suddenly arched my back as far back as I could,
and then, when the beast thought he had broken my back, whipped my body
forward. I smashed my forehead against the hobgoblin's ugly face and crushed
his nose into a bloody smear. The beast yelped in pain and dropped my body
to the cold, stone floor. Not even his massive, clawed hands could staunch
the flow of blood pouring from his shattered face.

I slowly got to my feet, gasping for air, and looked at the injured monster.
Reflecting on his earlier words I said. "Now you nose not to break me."

I only took a second to catch my breath. When I glanced up I saw Zazic ready
to plunge a dagger into a terrified Stillwater. I had to act quickly. The
hobgoblin was already recovering from my facial assault and moved to attack
me again. He wouldn't make it this time. I clenched my fingers tightly and
when the Hobgoblin lunged at me, I struck first, smashing the creature's
throat and crushing his larynx completely with rigid fingers. A shocked
Preshur reached for his shattered neck and gasped for air that wasn't coming.
His bestial brain could not comprehend that he was dying on his feet. Giving
in to the inevitable the mortally wounded hobgoblin began to collapse. I
caught his falling form and with considerable and painful effort lifted his
carcass over my head. Taking a lesson from the hobgoblin I hurled his body
at a stunned Zazic.

The Zhentarim agent raised his arms in a feeble attempt to save himself but
could only manage a high pitched shriek before Preshur's body landed on top
of him with a resounding thud. There was an audible crack heard throughout
the room. Taking a deep breath I hobbled over to the collapsed bodies. I
glanced down at Zazic. By odd angle of his neck, I knew that he was dead. I
picked up his dropped dagger and cut Stillwater's bond. The merchant slowly
shrugged out of the ropes.

"Oh, thank Waukeen, Gond, Tymora and all the gods above. I thought I was
dead for sure." The information broker carefully stood up, obviously still
feeling the pain from his earlier interrogation. He then looked over at the
dead duo on the floor. "Looks like the hobgoblin's weight broke the
Zhentarim's neck."

Looking at the corpses I simply said, "That's the problem with the Zhentarim.
They always break under Preshur." Stillwater looked puzzled by my comment
but then shook his head and ignored it.

"Listen, friend of Trevor, they knew you were coming. The Zhentarim have big
plans for Neverwinter. Kraken spies, Cloud Giants, Banshees, and other
creatures are involved. I don't know all the details but I do know that
wicked things are in store for Neverwinter. Lord Nasher's call for help be
damned, we have get out of the city." I looked at the scared man and shook
my head.

"That's not how I work. I'm here to stop them. If we can gather enough
proof of the Zhentarim activities in Neverwinter we can go to Lord Nasher."
Pointing at the Zhentarim agents I added, "These bodies are a start."

"Are you mad? Look how much trouble this has already brought me. I do not
wish to stir anything else up."

I looked at Duncan Stillwater, thought of his worried daughter, and of my own
once living family, and said, "Well that's the difference between us."

With another puzzled look he asked, "What do you mean?"

I smiled and said,, "I was never one to let waters lie still."

A: To remain a member, we ask that you post once a month in our guild folder.
The post doesn't have to be complicated or long--short and sweet is just
fine. That's all we ask.

What is WWAI?

WWAI (Who/What/Am/I) is a game held once per month outside the Realms in the
Great Hall Tavern. You can reach the Tavern by using Keyword: AD&D and then
clicking on "The Great Hall of Neverwinter". Folks gather from all over to
test their knowledge of Neverwinter, the Forgotten Realms and 1st Edition
AD&D in general.

How is it played?

There are two staff hosts who run the game, asking the questions, timing the
responses and scoring. Questions are asked in parts... the format being
something like...

NW Ember: QUESTION #12 COMING...
NW Ember: PART ONE
NW Ember: TOWERING TALL, WIDE AND STRONG...
<guesses>
NW Ember: TIME!

The players all begin to guess based upon the first clue, shouting out their
answers. Only one guess per player per clue. The first guess per player
will be considered, all others during that clue disregarded. If no one
correctly guesses the answer then the question continues....

NW Ember: PART TWO
NW Ember: GREAT SWORDS HELD TIGHTLY IN BOTH HANDS...
<more guesses>
NW Ember: TIME!

Again the players begin guessing. And again, if there is no correct answer
the third and final clue is given.

NW Ember: PART THREE
NW Ember: FLAMES AND FIRE ARE OUR HOME.
<more guesses>
NW Ember: TIME!

The answer will NOT be given if there has been no correct guess. Correct
answers will be confirmed, should they occur, in this manner...

NW Ember: ANSWER: FIRE GIANTS

Then, we will move along to the next question. Naturally, if someone
correctly answered the question during an earlier clue, the remaining clues
will not be asked and we will go on to the next question.

Generally there is a half time break roughly 45 minutes into the game to
allow players (and staff) to stretch. At that time an UNOFFICIAL halftime
score will be given to let folks know how they are doing.

At the conclusion of the game (usually around an hour and a half in length),
the final UNOFFICIAL scores will be announced. A review of the log of the
evening's game will be completed before the final and OFFICIAL scores are
recorded and prizes are rewarded.

Scoring

Points are awarded for correctly answering the question within the allotted
time period for each clue. The first person to answer correctly will receive
more points than any others who manage to answer correctly before the time is
called.

First Clue: 1st to answer ----> 5 points
                             all others ----------> 1 point

Second Clue: 1st to answer ---> 3 points
                              all others ---------> 1 point

Third Clue: 1st to answer ---> 2 points
                              all others ---------> 1 point

No points will be awarded for incorrect answers. Nor will answers given
after the allotted time (correct or otherwise) be counted.

Periodically, some questions will be defined as being worth more points, by
applying a special modifier.. usually DOUBLE but sometimes TRIPLE points.

Rules

1) Only one answer allowed per clue per participant. Failure to answer
during a particular clue means the loss of that answer. e.g. XYZ doesn't
respond to clue 1, XYZ is still only allowed one answer attempt for clues 2
and 3.

2) Multi-part answers must be on the same chat line.

e.g. NW Aziza: Berun/Triboar <------Correct

NW Aziza : Berun <------Incorrect
NW Aziza : Triboar

3) Slang and abbreviations will be accepted if they are common usage within
the Realms of Neverwinter. The decision of the Hosts in this matter is
final.

e.g. Windy or WC is fine for Windycliffs
DRA is not acceptable for Dracholich, but Drac is fine.
Eyeballs is not acceptable for Beholders, but Holders is
fine.
Rock thingies is not acceptable for Stone Golems, etc.

4) When a disputed answer arises the Hosts will have the final say on
scoring.

5) If the game ends and there is a tie for first, second or third the
players that are tied will have a dice roll off. If one of the players tied
for first place, the loser of the roll of will be moved to second place and
all others will move down in the finish order. If the tie is for second, the
loser of the roll-off will be moved to third place and all others will be
moved down in the finish order. The loser of a roll-off for third place will
be moved to fourth with all others moving down in the finish order. The
losing roller of a third place tie will not receive a prize.

Keep in mind that such things are still based upon UNOFFICIAL scores and
until a review of the log is completed, there are no OFFICIAL places.

6) Where no rule has been explicitly stated common sense will apply and the
host decision will stand.

7) Sanity Clause : The rules maybe changed at a later date to cover
unforeseen circumstances.

Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded for placing in WWAI

First Place: 25 Pearls + 4 hours
Second Place: 20 Pearls + 3 hours
Third Place: 15 Pearls + 2 hours

Additionally a random prize of 5 pearls will be awarded to one person per
game. To be eligible for the random drawing, you must be present and you
must have earned at least one point. The time of the drawing will be random,
changing each month.
