PROMINENT CITIZENS CURED OF MYSTERY ILLNESSES!

Pikel Bldr and Handler1, both fell ill to some mysterious disease last week.
Reports have it that they both suffered from a different disease, but some
are not so sure. The cure was administered to both Sunday evening, Nov 7th,
while friends and family looked on. Precious spell ingredients were found
throughout the realm and delivered to Shrine Aid. Shrine Aid was then able
to mix the potion which saved both Handler1 and Pikel Bldr.
HAPPY NEWS FOR PATRIX AND DEL1A!

Congratulations to Patrix and Del1a, who are expecting a new arrival in the
realms, very shortly!! The parents are happy, and healthy. They are pleased
that they will not have to be concerned with the effects of the plague.
TRIVIA WINNERS!

Congratulations to Tar Ritan and Lord Bane for running away with last weeks
monthly trivia game! Both Tar Ritan and Lord Bane finished with 38 points,
double that of the second place finishers Zamroth and Hercules, who each had
19 points! In third place, with a very respectable score of 16 points, was
Ellgin! Congratulations to all 5 for a fine display of game knowledge!
NEW GUILDS FORMING!

Several new guilds are attempting to get started! Scan the Tales area, and
see if there might not be one there for you! This reporter's personal
favorite is most likely going to be the Drinker's Guild. ;x

The Guildmasters of the realms, both old and new, are opening up a workshop
for discussion of roleplay in Neverwinter. This may well be a hot topic.
NWN TOURS

New to the realms? Need some help getting started? Each month the NW/NWA's
will be hosting tours in the realm. The next tour is Scheduled for November
10th and will be hosted by NW Dupre at 10:30pm Eastern time. If you would

Rumor has it that great evil hath taken hold in Luskan. We can help the Lord
Nasher by investigating this evil. After a hiatus of some duration, the
Sunday Morning Treks to Luskan led by Born are back in session, to look into
the situation. Every Sunday morning at 10 am EST, he will leave the square
bound for the cold town of Luskan. Any adventurers level 5 and above who
wish to join are welcome.

CURE FOR OLOTH?

Rumor has it, that Elvraema's attempt to force the denizens of the realms to
drink Oloth, has been successfully countered! One wonders what will come
next, since the incurable has been cured!
A NEWBORN IN NW
------------------------
The newest little member of COR...Jesilla Trustrike was born in Nightsedge
with her father in attendance. Sunny and DP had to flee the woods to get
away from Sharqua and Vierna while I was in strong labor. DP bodily picked
me up and we went to Nightsedge so I could give birth in peace! The birth
was an easy one and we now have a beautiful baby girl. She is healthy so I
know she was not affected by the poison that I was injected with by Nyil
DeVir. I have had to hide her, as I am still being threatened by Nyil DeVir
and Elvraema. She is hidden way off in the woods with a nanny that I would
trust with my life. The only person that will ever know where our daughter
is, is my beloved DP. But, he will not even know until I can change him back
from the vile creature that he has become. I must find a way to get to him
and help him return to me. I, also, must find a way to return my son to me.
I pray to Tyr that love will be the way. Nyil has told me himself that he
will be away for a while, so I hope I have enough time and the energy to
bring my loved ones back from the dark.
(Editors Note: Could the rumor mentioned in the previous article bring this
story to a happy conclusion, let us hope so.)
WHO/WHAT AM I CONTEST

As the cold winds blow in from the north, adventurers gather more often in
front of the hearth for fun and fellowship. One of the ancient games that is
played in deepest winter, when all are gathered in front of the fire is
Who/What Am I?
A challenging game that combines Riddles and Trivia, Neverwinter Nights Who
or What Am I (WWAI) involves creating 3 clues to a riddle in decreasing order
of difficulty. Three examples are provided at the end of this post.
Entry format:[1] Please create only one entry per post.[2] Enter the solution
in the Subject field.[3] You must create exactly 3 clues per entry, each on a
separate line.[4] The hardest clue should appear on line 1 and the easiest on
line 3.[5] Brevity is the soul of wit! Use the KISS principle when creating
your clues.[6] Only the first post of any duplicate entries will be
considered.[7] All entries must pertain to the NWN game.
And now a word from our benefactor:
If, at the end of the month, there are MORE than 500 entries, Lord Nasher has
agreed to award to the person who posts the most entries 5 free hours and a
+3 Weapon for NWN 2.0
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers will receive 4, 3 and 2 hours
respectively and a +3 weapon in NWN 1.0
Additionally, on November 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th 1 plus hour will be
awarded at random to a member who posted in the week prior to that date.[If
there are less than 500 entries, then the 1st prize will be 4 hours and a NWN
1.0 weapon, etc.]

Tour participation is limited and new players are given first choice, so

TAVERN TALES
-------------------
The crisp Autumn air crackled with excitement as they gathered in the Great
Hall Tavern on Wednesday night, November the Third. Their finely chiseled
bodies, sculpted by many past arduous adventures, glistened in the
candlelight as they awaited their turn to register.
The long anticipated notice had been posted. What had gone before, had
returned. The gauntlet had been dropped, affording them the chance to flaunt
and vaunt their physical prowess before all the Realm.
The Great Hall Tavern's CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS ][ had begun!!! Gladiators
from all corners of the Realm gathered to select their classes and weapons in
order to compete in this arena-styled Gladiator event that had been so
popular this past August.
Clerics, Mages, Rangers, Paladins, Druids, Fighters and Rogues were the
available professions to choose from for those wishing to compete. The new
bonus of "Florentine" attacks for Fighters and Rogues was added, providing a
suitable DEX bonus was rolled. All spells were recalculated and redefined in
order to make the different professions more equal.
The Great Hall Tavern's CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS ][ will be held each and every
Wednesday from 10pm until Midnight (Eastern). Gladiators will be able to
sign up each week and each Gladiator that wins his/her match will win ONE
FREE HOUR OF ONLINE FUN!!!
Results from Wednesday night, November the Tenth:
In the first fight of the evening, NightRuner, a ranger, faced the mage
Kyrse. In this close match, NightRuner finally emerged the victor with 11
hit points vs. Kyrse's 10!!!
In the second fight of the night, TheZorker, a paladin just managed to defeat
the ranger RELLIKK in a tie-breaking round! Next up was Patroc1us, a
fighter, was able to whittle away Urgrue the ranger's hit points in the final
rounds in order to claim victory.
Still weary from his previous fight, Patroc1us again took center ring, this
time facing NightRuner who was just about able to catch his breath since the
first fight. Patroc1us, although weary, was able to soundly defeat
NightRuner in the end.
In the night's final match, Urgrue once again stepped into the center ring,
determined to defeat Kyrse. In his opening round, Urgrue hurled a
devastating fireball at Kyrse who was toasted for over half his hit points!
Kyrse, unable to come back from that opening attack, fell to the floor of the
arena, unconscious, within four rounds. Urgrue offered the parched Kyrse a
mug of ale in the spirit of good sportsmanlike conduct.

--==* Dupre's Tip of the Week *==--
Using AOL for Windows?
Looking to speed it up? Here's a few things you might want to try!
If running windows in Enhanced mode, try adjusting your foreground and
background priorities. These can be found under the 386 icon in Control
Panel. Try settings somewhere around 100 for foreground, and 50 for
background. These settings affect each computer differently so adjust them
until you find what works best for you.
Try modifying your PCGAME.PIF with the following changes:
Under Video memory select "TEXT" with no graphics options and under the
Advanced Options in the Display options section select "TEXT" here also
de-selecting any graphics options. This may sound like a strange request,
but it tends to speed up NWN.
Also if your not using SMARTDRIVE (included with windows) you may want to
read up on it in your Windows manual and add this line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
This greatly improves disk access and generally speeds up game play.

A WIZARD'S PLIGHT!
--------------------------
Last evening the residents of Neverwinter and surrounding communities
assisted Tomas the Befuddled, in a Wizard's Plight Quest! Citizens and
visitors to the realm turned out in large numbers to assist Tomas in his
Quest, with 150 participating at one point. Tomas is now compiling all the
information and hopes to have the final results posted later in the day.
Only news we have at this time, is that the fishing is great in the East
Central Woods, BlazinNova has agreed to pay all cleaning expenses for
Tassel's robes, and that V0gue's social calendar is now quite full through
the end of the year.
ANNOUNCEMENT!

Recently, Apoth was seen walking up to the Palace, and removing a parchment
from his raiment. He placed the parchment on the wall and walked away.
After seeing residents walk up to read the parchment, this reporter slipped
through the crowd and copied the text. The following is a copy of that
parchment.
Hear Ye Hear Ye!
The Third Annual Player vs Player Tournament is in its beginning stages!
See who is the Best of the Best at their magical talents, who has the best
saves, the loudest fireballs, the deadliest slays and who is the biggest
whiner.
This years tournament is new and improved! The biggest change is that it
will have a time limit added, to avoid it being long and drawn out.
We are hoping to make this an official event with prizes of free time. We do
not know if this will be termed an official event or not but we will advise
you in the Events folder.
Please do NOT send in your names until the rules are posted. Keep an eye on
the Events folder for the rules and the start dates.

AERICH TRADES IN WET BLANKET FOR DRY SPONGE!

It seems that the KAAOS guild has had a hot tub party sometime in the recent
past. Aerich has complained about spillage of unidentified liquids in the
hallways. Rumor has it that Aerich has promised to 'dry up' any further
tubs. This reporter can only hope that Aerich has some way of dealing with
the unusual liquids KAAOS uses.
DARIN ARC, CURED BY MEILIKKI!

Darin Arc has completed his passage of worth to the great goddess Meilikki.
In a personal visitation, in one of her favorite forms, the great goddess
spoke unto Darin, clearing a task for him, and then, curing him of the
aftereffects of the dread potion Oloth. Surely, the spider-goddess will not
be overly pleased!
A KING IN NEVERWINTER!

There's a rumor that there may be a "king" in Neverwinter. This "king" seems
to be seeking to establish a guild!! Lord Nasher is, even now, seeking out
the truth of this rumor!

(((( Dupre's Tip of the Week ))))
For a Dual-classed character, you must be HUMAN. A Dual-classed character
starts out as one class, and somewhere along the line switches classes to
another.
Multi-classed characters can not be human. A Multi-classed character starts
out as more than one class, and moves up in levels in all classes at once.
Here's some general information about "Human Dual Class" characters:
1) Before a Human character can get the abilities of both classes, they must
reach a HIGHER level of training in the class they "Dualed" to verses the
class they "Dualed" from.
EXAMPLE: Lets say your a Cleric 10th level Human character, and you select
to do a "Human Class Change" to a Mage. You will only have the abilities of
a Mage UNTIL you become a 11th level Mage (which is 1 level higher then the
Cleric 10th level you dualed from). Once you become a 11th level Mage you
gain the abilities of both classes (Cleric and Mage).
2) Each different Human class has "Prime Requisite" stats. The "Prime
Requisite" stats are the minimum required stats needed to become the FIRST
class you pick, as follows:
Fighter - 15 Strength.
Cleric - 15 Wisdom.
Mage - 15 Intelligence.
Thief - 15 Dexterity.
Paladin - 15 Strength, 15 Wisdom, 15 Con, 17 Charisma.
Ranger - 15 Strength, 15 Intelligence, 15 Wisdom, 15 Constitution.
IMPORTANT: You must have at least a 17 or 18 stat in the "Prime Requisite"
stats of the class you will Dual to. Thus, the following minimum stats are
needed for these types of Human Dual Class characters.....
KEY: STR-Strength, INT-Intelligence, WIS-Widsom
DEX-Dexterity, CON-Constitution, CHA-Charisma.

NOTE: When a character selects to dual class, the training hall looks at
your "base stat values" to determine if your character has the required
"Prime Requisite" Stats. Your "base stat values" are your stats WITHOUT any
consideration to items that you have "Ready" in inventory. Thus enhancing
stats by using "Items" (example: increasing your wisdom stat with Ioun
stones) will not allow a character to dual class if their "base stat values"
were to low.

COLD CHILL HAS SOLD OUT?!

Let it be known, that I, King C0ld Chill, have recovered from whatever
affliction possessed me, and am once again the only TRUE EVIL in
Neverwinter!!!! Also, let it be known that I will once again be attempting to
organize the First Family of Chaos, or the Society of the Serpent, Or, I have
applied to the organization known as KAAOS, and Soon my presence will be felt
there!!! If you PEONS thought you were SAFE from just MY AWESOME WRATH, wait
for the combined forces of myself and KAAOS to take hold!!!!! WE WILL BE
UNSTOPPABLE!!!!!!

Registration for the 3rd annual Player Vs Player has officially begun!
The event will start at 12 midnight, Monday the 29th of November, and will
run till 11:59pm December 29th.
Please send all registration info to screen name "Ap0th", info sent to any
other screen name except "Ap0th" will not be honored. (Please be aware that
Ap0th is with a "ZERO")
Also remember that there is a 30 day time limit for this event. Each match
will be no longer than 3 days. If you feel that you will be unable to
complete your match in this time limit, please do not register.
There will be "1" Winner for this event. This person will win the bragging
rights to the Realm, and some Free time online (amount of free time has not
been given out yet).
I would like to stress that this is NOT a Guild event, it's not limited to
Guilds or sponsored by the Guilds. This tournament is open to ALL the
residents of NW, but I encourage the GL's to push their best into the ring.
And the most important item to remember is, HAVE FUN!!!

Dark Cuurz has had his life history borne out in the KAAOS area. Seems he
might be considering joining up with the wet folks of Mal's troupe. One must
wonder just how good a selling point that hot tub is!
There's a hot new area on the Tales board!! It's the Character Profiles
folder! Stop by, and inform the realms about your character, and WHY (s)he
does things the way (s)he does! And kudos to Deadb0lt for this wonderful
idea!!

--==>>> Dupre's Tip of the Week <<<==--
Getting ready to download the Neverwinter Nights (NWN) V2 game software? If
so, here's a few tips .....
1) Before starting the actual downloading process, be sure to close any open
"chat" room windows that you have open. Then turn off "Instant Messages"
(IM's) so that others can't send IM's to you while your downloading. Both of
these tips can help to reduce "errors" during the transmission of the
download file.
To turn off IM's, send a IM to the screen name: $im_off
Once your done doing the download, you can turn IM's back on by sending a IM
to the screen name: $im_on
2) After the download, it is also a good idea to create a newly formatted
high density disk, and copy the downloaded game file(s) onto it. Label this
disk as your "NWN V2 BACKUP".
3) While decompressing (UnZipping) the game files, be watchful for any
errors messages you receive (example: "GAME.EXE file fails CRC Check").
These types of errors are usually very rare, but if you see a error message
like this, then it could be that part of the file was corrupted during the
download process.
Many of these errors can be corrected by using a utility called ZIPFIX.EXE
(which is part of the PKWARE package). If you don't have a copy of the
ZIPFILE.EXE program, you can use Keyword SOFTWARE, and download the complete
set of PKZIP utilities called PK204E.EXE).
Also remember that AOL / NWN is now accessible at speeds up to 9600 on PCAOL
v1.5a. You can access AOL at 9600 using WAOL, but you will not be able to
enter the game at that speed.
